lol I expect this to be over before valuev has thrown his first punch

seriously as appealing a match this looks for Haye he has to make sure he doesnt underestimate Valuev as if he fall prey to the idea that Valuev's lack of hand/foot speed means he will be a walk over i expect to see Haye on his back he should take this fight as serious as any

I've not seen Valuev fight yet as heavyweight boxing holds little interest to me at the moment (Except when Haye fights).

Does he use his size to lean on/wear out opponents and is he skilled at boxing despite his lack of speed?

Mostly just uses his size to smother his opponent's work. He's got an ok jab which he uses to decent effect, but he's not a very good boxer at all.

Aye, I'll be watchin this.

You know what time the fights are starting, Lance? I'm gonna start looking about for streams in a minute.
Sorry about that, my goddamn broadband decided it would be a good idea to stop working on Saturday night. As a result, I missed the fight. Irritating.

Safe for this CLK, enjoyed watching it.

Puts the whole Margarito saga into perspective, really. He was one of my favourite fighters (still is, in a way) but let's face it, he should be banned for life.

God knows how long he'd been doing it, maybe even just for that fight with Mosley, but he could have seriously fecked someone up. Just inexcusable, considering how dangerous a sport boxing already is.

Thanks Pat, I guess Haye is in with a good chance then.

HATTON HINTS AT KHAN FIGHT

By Phil Medlicott, Press Association Sport

Ricky Hatton has given the clearest indication yet that he would be willing to fight Amir Khan - as long as he is able to promote the fight himself.

Hatton has been focusing on promoting since his dramatic second-round knock-out against Manny Pacquiao at Las Vegas' MGM Grand in May.

Many thought at the time that the defeat would spell the end for Hatton's career, and the 30-year-old is still yet to confirm whether he intends to fight on.

But retirement seemed to be the furthest thing from Hatton's mind as he talked up the possibility of combining his new line of work with a comeback against Khan, the WBA light-welterweight champion.

"If I do decide to make a comeback and he (Khan) is still world champion and he's still at that level, then obviously being a light-welterweight, it is a possibility" Hatton said.

"But with the greatest of respect, it would only be if I promoted it.

"But, yeah, if I choose to fight again and he's still up there - which I certainly hope he is, as a personal friend - then it's a possibility."

Doubts remain over the eagerness of Khan, who on Saturday reaffirmed his desire to fight in the United States as soon as possible.

But even if a 'Battle of Britain' does not materialise, the signs are clear that Hatton, who formed Hatton Promotions in January, feels that he still has something to offer as a fighter.

"I'm not making any decision (yet). One day I might just wake up in the morning and think, 'let's give it another go'," he said.

"At the moment I'm busy with the promoting, enjoying what I'm doing working with all these former champions and prospects I've got coming up.

"But us boxers - it doesn't take us long to get itchy feet again."

Hatton admitted that his work with the boxers fighting as part of the Hatton Promotions show at the Manchester Velodrome next week had made him think about his own position.

One name on the card is Michael Brodie, who returns to the ring after a four-year absence and whose desire to get back to the top Hatton said he can empathise with.

"I find myself in a similar position to Mike Brodie in many respects - he's had a break from it, re-charged his batteries and now he's hungry as ever wanting to come and get back into the action," Hatton said.

"I'm having a rest. It's a hard game, boxing - you're up every morning running every day, you train in the afternoon, you're dieting, you're up and down in weight and it can wear you down.

"I'm re-charging the batteries and once I've done that I can sit down and like Michael Brodie's done, come back with the bit between my teeth."

Joining Brodie at the event, billed 'The Boys are Back in Town', are the former British light-welterweight and welterweight champion David Barnes, former Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Andy Morris and Joe 'Genius' Murray, an Olympian at the Beijing Games who will be looking for his third win with Hatton Promotions

Pavlik/Williams is on.

By Rick Reeno

BoxingScene.com has been informed by sources close to the negotiations that a deal has been reached for a middleweight war on October 3 at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik will defend his titles against Paul "The Punisher" Williams.

After weeks of tough back and forth negotiations, BoxingScene was informed that a deal was reached on Tuesday afternoon. HBO, who played a role in the agreement by bringing a $3.75 million dollar fee to the table, will televise the fight. The two sides tried to make a deal last year and it fell apart but this time both sides worked very hard to make sure the deal got sealed.

Pavlik vs. Williams will be sick.

With Williams' workrate and Kelly's rigid stance and planted feet, I reckon he'll land enough to win a comfortable UD. He won't have faced anyone with the strength and power of Pavlik, and if he catches one of those massive right hands flush on the chin then he might be in trouble, but I reckon he has enough to win this fight. The move up in weight shouldn't hinder him either, with that big frame of his.

I quite like Pavlik but don't think he's true p4p material. This'll be his first proper test since the Hopkins fight as well (the most thorough schooling I've seen since Calzaghe's demolition of Lacey) - I wonder how well he'll bounce back from that?

Anyone going to watch Roy Jones vs Jeff Lacy tonight? Both well past their prime, prematurely in Lacy's case, but could be a decent boxer vs puncher style match up. I fancy Jones by wide decision as Lacy has looked awful post-Calzaghe and rotator cuff surgery, but I wouldn't completely rule out Lacy by brutal KO either.

Yeah might as well watch this. Reckon you're spot on with your prediction tbh, I can see Jones winning a very comfortable UD.

Tbh would prefer to watch Donaire tonight than Jones Lacy, but having trouble getting a place to watch either.

I reckon Donaire by KO,Jones by UD

Great, now Roid will think he's "back" because he convincingly defeated a guy who was done the minute the bell sounded to end the Calzaghe fight. Oh well...

Terrible track. He also forgot to add a verse reminding us of his humiliation at the hands of "white boy" Joe Calzaghe.
Hopkins is the guy who said he would never lose to a "white boy." Roid was actually very respectful during the build up to the fight, and after his ass kicking. Very unlike "prime" Roid.

Ended up falling asleep just before this started, well annoying.

From what I gather Lacey got absolutely battered... time for him to start thinking about retirement?

He actually "retired" prior to the Taylor fight. But yeah, he is done, IMO.

Unless he wants to hang around on the turd circuit, fighting for peanuts against stiffs.

I just don't see where he can go from here, in terms of being relevant.

And could possibly be off altogether.

It was announced on Monday that WBC/WBO middleweight Kelly Pavlik is still suffering from an ongoing infection on the middle finger on his left hand and withdrew from his October 3 bout with Paul Williams. Top Rank sent out a press release that stated the fight would take place on November 21 or December 5.

Shortly after the press release by Top Rank, Williams' promoter Dan Goossen sent an email BoxingScene.com stating that he was unaware the fight had even been postponed or the November date and he was not signing off until he, and Team Williams, evaluate what they plan to do.

"If a release was sent stating that Pavlik was fighting November 21, I would be very interested in finding out who he's fighting. As we’re all aware, we've just learned of Pavlik's decision to cancel the press conference and thus the fight, and we will evaluate where we go from here," Goossen.

The date of November 21 seems out to most. One of Goossen's other star boxers is fighting on the same date on Showtime, Andre Ward. Ward goes into the biggest fight of his career when he faces WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler in the first round of Showtime's Super Six tournament. Goossen is almost sure to be in Ward's corner for the fight which is said to be taking place on Oakland, California - and he won't be likely to agree to see two of his fighters go head to head on rival networks.

The other date mentioned, December 5, was previously being held by HBO for a doubleheader to feature Andre Berto and Sergio Martinez. If the Pavlik-Williams fight gets moved over to that date, there may be some serious reshuffling with their other dates. Wladimir Klitschko-Eddie Chambers [also with Goossen] is tentative for December 12, and Lucien Bute-Librado Andrade is scheduled for November 28. Nobody knows what will happen at this point.

Pavlik is a prick.

"His knuckle is infected," Dunkin told ESPN.com just before boarding his flight. "It's all infected. It's worse than it was. He has to go on an IV drip starting in the morning and do it for the next couple of weeks to get it cleaned out. It needs medical attention. He can't put a glove on."

Dunkin said the issue has given Pavlik (35-1, 31 KOs) problems for the past "five or six months." He said Pavlik had stitches removed a few days ago and was due to see his doctor on Monday afternoon to be cleared before flying to New York for the news conference.

"Instead, he goes in there and it's worse," Dunkin said. "The kid missed three doctor's appointments and when he showed up it was worse. I'm going there to get this all straightened out, meet with [trainer] Jack [Loew], his father [co-manager Mike Pavlik] and to talk to the doctor. This should have been healed a week ago."

Top Rank chief Bob Arum was on his way to the airport in Las Vegas when he got a call from Dunkin telling him the fight had to be postponed.

"According to the doctor, Kelly hasn't been making his appointments. So what do you want me to do," Arum said. "They tell me it will heal and he'll be cleared in the next few weeks. It is what it is. What am I supposed to do? I have absolutely no emotion."

This isn't the first time Pavlik has had issues with the infection. In May, Top Rank said the infection was the reason a scheduled June 27 defense against former junior middleweight titlist Sergio Mora was canceled. Pavlik, who was in a contract dispute with Top Rank at the time, and his team dispute that the infection was the reason.

Pavlik needs to sort himself out, I was well looking forward to this one. Isn't he supposed to have a problem with booze as well?

Oh, and nice one for the link to that site Lance, I've just finished watching the fight (you too, CLK, only just clocked that link).

I was actually quite shocked to see how sharp Jones looked. You've gotta criticise Lacey for allowing him to look that good, though, jumping straight at him while loading up ridiculously obvious punches. Still, was amazed by Jones' handspeed tbh... what, him being 40 and all that. It doesn't change my opinon that he's shot, but good to see that he can still turn in an entertaining performance. That flurry of hooks in about 5th or 6th was insane!

feck Pavlik dude just messed up what was looking to be a good final quarter for boxing.

On a better note I have been drafted to cover some lower level cards around London for a major boxing site after the head of the site read my Salvador Sanchez tribute

Shaq vs Oscar de la Hoya

 Funny shit. Shaq is just so huge..it looked like he was pushing de la Hoya around rather than punching him

Anyone watching Juan Diaz vs. Malignaggi?

Dunno who I want to win, both of them have always struck me as being decent guys whenever I've seen them interviewed. I reckon Diaz takes this on points, though.

Yeah, I've found a good stream. Just hoping it stays alive until fight time. You sorted with one yet? Any idea what time its due to start? I detest Malignaggi. Gutsy fighter though I have to admit. I really like Diaz, and I agree he'll probably take it on points. I just wish he could get a lend of prime Tzsyu's right hand for tonight, so he could punch Paulie into dust.
