The RedCafe Boxing Thread

it'd be just a one off money spinner, slow and cumbersome!
Probably not the best fight ever but there would be some digs thrown

I've been a fan of Fury for a while. He's an entertaining enough character and has been steadily improving. But he acts like a complete spastic on Twitter and it's put me off him a bit to be honest.

Never been a fan of Fury, his last fight was his best but still away to go.
Him calling out all these other fighters is going to backfire on him badly.
I dont know about the UFC fighter I dont watch it but KLITSCHKO would hammer him.
He is fast becoming a laughing stock of British Boxing, he should spend more time getting his boxing right and use the talent that he does hav,e and learn to keep his gob shut.

So rumour has it that Devon Alexander may be faking his injury to get out of the Kell Brook fight because he is close to agreeing terms to fight Floyd Mayweather in May. Eddie Hearn saying they have a contract and will insist the IBF force Alexander to fight brook next or vacate the title.

If he isn't forced to vacate then it would be an absolute farce.

Did anyone see the fight between SBW and Botha? The match was reduced to 10 rounds during the match, WTF???

Great performance by Frampton once again. Could definitely do with shoring up his defence a bit, but he's such a class fighter going forward. I just hope with all the talk of a world title that it won't come too soon for him. There are some top fighters in the Super Bantamweight division, certainly wouldn't fancy him against Donaire, Mares or Rigondeaux at this stage. Although I don't think the IBF, which Eddie Hearn was talking about after the fight, is held by any of the above?

The IBF title is vacant at the moment. The IBF no 1 ranked Junior Featherweight is Alejandro Lopez. I don't think that Frampton is anywhere close enough to beat Donaire, he probably never will be. Donaire is such a quick and considered fighter who can knock anyone out.

I would have to agree with you on Donaire, however Frampton has time on his side. I believe Mares is looking to move up to featherweight and I wouldn't be surprised if Donaire follows him up if he beats Rigondeaux.

If that happened I could see Quigg and Frampton getting shots at titles in the not to distant future and hopefully meeting somewhere down the line in a unification bout.

That Broner is possibly the worst sportsman I've ever seen, hate they way HBO interviewers just seem to love that kind of attitude, maybe it's a culture difference between Brits and yanks but I just think he is a disgraceful human. It's a shame some people just can't be humble and talented. Pretending he didn't even know his opponents name in the post fight interview was pathetic.

Fair play he was more respectful in his interview with British TV but he's still a cnut.

He is talented i will give him that, with how quick he gets that counter punch in with some power he would cause amir khan a nightmare if they meet at light welterweight, but he's another cnut so wouldn't lose much sleep whoever got knocked out there.

All fair points although I would temper them by saying that there really isn't an outstanding boxer I can think of who wasn't a bit of a cnut at times as it kind of goes with the territory especially with the way doubt can eat away at boxers. Ali himself said various things during the run up to facing Joe Frazier that were completely beyond the pale, in fact I find some of those things worst than anything I've heard any revered boxer come out with.

I can't really say that lack of humility with boxers whilst a camera is in front of them bothers me that much as I can understand the psychology of talking yourself up to be superhuman in a sport where belief is half the battle, aggression and testosterone also play their part with most pre fight/in fight antics.

That's just the way the sport works for me, can't say Broner's antics trouble me that much, as above I've seen and heard worse.

Broner is a tit, he is painfully unfunny and makes a cock of himself nearly every time he opens his mouth, it is his problem. He is a talent, no question. Rees said after the fight that his power is immense, we had likely get used to Bronner as he is going to be around the top of the game for a while. Nonetheless, the Rees fight was garbage. Rees is past his best and was just used to make Bronner look good. Rees has no significant power, an uncultured style and the heart of a lion. It was always going to be a brutal beat down.

I completely agree with you assesment of the fight as for your assesment of Broner I also understand where you are coming from but let me ask you a question.

There is an episode of HBO 24/7 on 2 different channels being broadcast at the same time. One covers Nonito Donaire vs his next oponent (does not matter who) the other has Broner Vs his next oponent (again does not matter who) you can only watch one of the two the other you will miss and you cannot channel hop.

Which one do you choose to watch?

I would watch Donaire especially if his opponent was Rigondeux. I am not the best person to ask that question as I love the sport rather than the circus. I take your point though, like Mayweather, he will attract an audience.

Boxing needs characters like Broner.

I second this, although I understand where Jimmy Hill is coming from the fact remains that boxing is a sport in need of characters and I like the circus to a certain extent as long as it does not spill over into deeply personal insults.

Broner seem like a young man who just likes to have fun and as much of a prick as he can be with it his out of the ring antics are harmless.

Quit moaning people.

I detest the fecker, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I'll keep watching his fights because he's so talented, and also because I'll be fecking delighted when he eventually gets beaten.

He looks superb offensively but he is hittable. Obviously he had no respect for Rees' power which factored into him taking punches, but De Leon landed plenty too. I don't see much to challenge him at lightweight, but I'd love to see him at 140lbs against someone like Brandon Rios, a durable pressure fighter who will land punches against him and has the power to hurt most opponents.

I will watch any fighter who is good but I don't believe Boxing needs characters like him, his general behaviour and acting like a cnut is more likely to stop me watching him as I am just going to find it annoying when he is doing his pathetic rapping entering the ring, Maybe people might think it brings attention from a more casual viewer but I would think most fight fans would just be more interested in seeing a good fighter, showing great skills and respect. Maybe over the other side of the pond they think he is cool as feck but quite the opposite for me and if a British fighter was acting like he does he would lose my support instantly.

I thought that also but it's hard to judge he may tighten up a lot against a bigger man. His counter punch looks superb, I do think a match up with Amir Khan would be interesting at light welterweight would be interesting to see if 1) if he could step up against a bigger & faster opponent than he is use to. 2) if Amir Khan could handle that counter punch smacking him in the face without hitting the canvas.

One thing for sure is he looks far to big for a lightweight, looking at his body he looks more of a natural Welterweight and probably be comfortable upto light middleweight so I was a bit disappointed he was reported to say as long as HBO are willing to pay him money to beat up little guys he will keep milking that cow. I understand he is still young but great Champions should want to be tested.

Should be a really good 2013 for boxing if the match ups so far are anything to go by:

Mayweather vs Guerrero
Brook Vs Alexander
Donaire Vs Rigondeaux (set to be announced)
Dawson Vs Bellew (possible)

Not to mention the possibility of Mayweather vs Canelo should they beat Guerrero and Trout. That Canelo vs Trout fight is interesting aswell. There's the possibility of Price vs Fury, a proper heavyweight grudge match and Froch-Kessler 2. A great year in store definitely, and probably a fifth Pac/Marquez fight, which im all for.

Definitely and that Trout Vs Canelo fight is interesting because Trout has already beaten Canelo's big brother in his own back yard. Having seen Trout see off Cotto pretty convincingly i'd have to put my money on Trout to expose Canelo. Froch Vs Kessler I missed off my list but another potentially great fight.

Froch V Kessler is the 2013 fight I'm most looking forward to, but of a piss take its the night of the champions league final though.
