The Official RedCafe PS3 FIFA 11 Tournament 2011

Those ten players are: Alex99, Gaz, Heffo, cina, EdWeatherall, Big-Red, Zarlak, vuc and two players from group MarceloFalcon keeps track of.

If Marcelo can post a table of their group, we can make a draw. Then I say there should be a maximum of four days for everyone to play their games, if one person doesn't turn out the other one gets a walkover, if both fail to turn up, no one goes through and someone is given a bye in the next round.

Sarni, see post #351. https://www.redcafe.net/f27/officia...rnament-2011-a-322371/index9.html#post9431750

Basically it was 20Le_Solskjaer, myself and ecantona7 in the top 3, redspoony in 4th with 3 pts, and TheGame in 5th with 0.

If you need any help setting this up just post because I check this thread regularly.

All right, so the three of you should go through, redspoony and TheGame going into play-offs.

If Elvis allows that, I will make a draw for five playoff ties.

Also, I think we should seed this knockout, rigid Tennis style. I know it won't guarantee the classic 1st seed vs. 2nd seed final, but give the guys who got out and got wins a slight advantage.

Of course, we only need to decide as soon as we have our final 16, but I'm just putting it out there. Anyone who disagrees, just be sure to mention what your preferred method would be.

I like this idea, i would of preferred the seeding system but this will make it interesting, so i'm all for this idea!

It will be seeded. Here's my idea for it:

Winners of groups A, C, D and E go into pot 1.
Second placed teams from groups C, D and E, as well as the best third placed team from these groups go into pot 2.
Remaining two third placed teams from groups C, D and E, as well as Eriku from Group A and the winner of a play-off that includes Zarlak (who's won his only game in group B) go into pot 3.
Winners of remaining play-off games between 4th and 5th placed teams plus vuc go into pot 4.

It's a little complicated but I think it's the way to make it work, there's no way to make pots otherwise because not everyone has played the same amount of games.

I will make a draw for the play-offs now, if Elvis accepts the new formula then it should go on, if he chooses otherwise my post will simply be invalid.

All right, guys. I've made a draw for the play-offs. Ten players were separated into two pots - first consisted of three third placed teams from finished groups: Ed Weatherall, Redspoony and Gaz, as well as the winner of only game in Group B: Zarlak and the remaining player with the biggest amount of points: Alex99. The other pot consisted of: cina, vuc, TheGame, Heffo, Big-Red. Here are the pairs:

EdWeatherall v cina
Redspoony v Big-Red
Zarlak v Heffo
Alex99 v vuc
Gaz v TheGame

Complete pots for the knock out rounds look like that:

Pot 1: 20le_Solskjaer, Sarni, Xander45, RonaldoVII
Pot 2: BillyBlaggs, McLovin, ecantona7, MarceloFalcon
Pot 3: Snow, jgraham, Eriku, Zarlak/Heffo
Pot 4: Alex99/vuc, EdWeatherall/cina, Redspoony/Big-Red, Gaz/TheGame.

Players from Pot 1 can only be drawn against players from Pot 4. Players from Pot 2 can only be drawn against players from Pot 3. Players from a higher pot have a right to choose their team first and there have to be two different teams (thus I create an advantage for players from Pot 2, who deserve it for amassing a greater amount of points than players from Pot 3, though the difference was slight in most cases and not up to them in case of Zarlak, that's why the advantage is only slight and not vast).

How many games do we play against each other in the knockouts, is it 2?

Again, Elvis hasn't given his rules for this, for me it should be two games, 2x7 mins each.

Alternatively, I was thinking about it, and we could switch into a second group phase - someone proposed that yesterday and I think it's a good idea. Four groups consisting of four players each, I'd say TWO games against each other should be played so everyone would have a total of six games to play. Obviously, both games will have to be played at the same time so it would require over half an hour, but I think it'd be much more fair.

I'd like to hear your opinions and I think we should keep it going after the weekend. Before that, let the playoffs begin - two games, 7 minutes per half.

Blimey, can't believe I made it into the knockout phase.

Big-Red, when are you available mate?

Whenever mate, around all day, and tomorrow etc.

EDIT: Should prob wait til we decide on the rules for the knockout

If we do another group phase we could end up with the same scenario that we had with the first group phase, that being lots of un-played games.

We should just stick to knock-outs, it would also be more entertaining.

I'm all for starting the out-knocking at this point in the tourney... A CL-style double fixture with away goals and whatsit sounds quite good too :)

With the way the first group stage went, with it lasting a couple of weeks and some people pulling out / disappearing altogether, I think a 2nd group stage would be overkill and cause more to drop out / disappear.

I like just one match for the playoffs, given that there's no home-away difference in FIFA. Maybe extend match time to 8 mins a half.

And I agree with Big-Red that players should wait until the rules are decided to play their matches.

And finally I think that the pot method would work well Sarni, you having already divided the pots and all.

I personally prefer the two game idea - i know for me I can be great one game and utter toss the next so it gives me and others a chance to make up for a poor performance.

But one main issue about 2 games is what to do if the aggregate result is a draw, but the 2nd result isn't. There's no one-off penalty mode in FIFA, and I don't like just waiting out another short match to reach pens. Besides it won't take into account the subs made, etc.

I'd like two games if FIFA were properly setup to take care of it, but it just isn't. 1 game makes it natural, if its a draw you play out extra-time with your tired players and whatever subs you made, and maybe make it to penalties, and it all works within the game without having to extrapolate.

Play a decider game?

Or away goals if one person does the invite for the first game and then the other person does the invite for the second game.
Also I think the same teams should have to be used in the home and away leg.

Oh yeah sorry was thinking draw. Then it would have to be a deciding game.

Another 7 minute half match? You'll be going into about an hour of game by then, not everyone has that sort of time.

Like I said before, I'd like 2 games, even with Away goals, if FIFA could handle it within the game. But it just can't, and we're just complicating things. With what we got I feel its best to play 1 game and have it done with, ET and Pens if its a stalemate. There's no shame in it, the World Cup has been that way forever.

If its a majority to play 2 games, of course I'll do it, but I'd like the procedure as far as what happens in case of a draw to be well set out.

1 off games sounds best.

All right, I think one game is the best idea and it should be at least eight minutes a half. I will make a draw for the knockout round today because there is a risk there will be a game where no one turns up in playoffs so I would rather set the next round up now.

sounds good

Are all the knockouts 8min halves then? Including the playoff ones?

Yes, from now on all games are eight minutes a half. I say five days to complete the playoffs and then a week per round but if everyone manages to complete their games sooner then we will have another round sooner. No extensions available unless for extra ordinary circumstances that shall be explained before the deadline passes.

I thought the draw had already been done.

If so...

redspoony (Lille) 1-0 Big_Red (Everton)

Tight game, how he didn't score is beyond me.

I blame the snow, seeing as this was a play off game I don't think we had to wait for the draw to be made.
