The New Kits Thread

Obligatory hideous Marseille away:

I love it.I'm thinking of purchasing it

But the shirts will still go on sale without sponsors on (which, despite my above post, is a good thing imo).

Definitely a good thing. Kits look much better without sponsors IMO.

Plus, it would be a bit out of order for 'Boro to sell a new one every month ;)

Sorry if re-post (unlikely... ;) ):

I hate the way Nike try to carry motifs across all their shirts - this year it's that stupid jagged, lightning bolt style, stripe. It's more about branding teams as part of the Nike family, then it is about designing a shirt that fits into and portrays a club's history and tradition. Cnuts.

Really though, it means feck all as long as we win.

umbro do a superb job making city shirts unique from the rest of the stuff they do for other clubs. they really make an effort for city and england kits.

nike are shitehouses.

Yeah I was gonna say...Umbro have done a great job on almost all their (new) kits...The new rangers one for example. Understated, no silly nonsense, no stupid raised patch for the crest..and only ruined by the hilarious sponsor.

I'd kill to get umbro back

I got Joe Cole's England shirt from the USA match in SA too...it's a lovely fabric to boot. Well made and with a good shape, something nike never take any care over...hence why non sportsmen look so ridiculous in nike shirts

Depends what you count as style....I personally don't think putting stripes and whizzy bits all over kits in an attempt to make them stand out is stylish at all...

Whereas umbro's basic approach (lets just make the kit, in it's basic form, with good material and shape) is exactly what I consider classy.... I think the England kits are fantastic for example...best thing about us the whole WC, and the best we've had for donkeys.

The current England kits are quite nice, but there are plenty of previous efforts that are very dated.

At risk of getting into a very gay debate, most of Umbro's stuff is very dated and I don't mean in a cool retro kind of way, I realise this is all subjective but some things are undeniable. Whether you like the Nike/adidas designs or not, at least they are modernised.

I won't go into football boots because I have a fetish for them and most Umbro boots are, again, dated in both design and technology.

I fully expect to see this post in the Gayest Post Of The Week thread, or I will be disappointed.

I've never liked Umbro kits, Spamms. The stuff they designed in the 90s were terrible, however I liked the kits they designed for last season(City's in particular). . .this season's seem to be good n'all. And I do think they're cool in a retro way. Kits should be simple.

I'm not saying umbro have always been good - hell they made our hideous grey number (and you won't beat adidas for retro cool old kits) - but just right now they're making very good kits IMO. Presumably a new design team are in who, quite annoyingly, were presumably brought in by Nike of all people.

That actually makes sense. They've both gone a bit retro.

Except Nike's efforts are still wank compared to Umbro's...Imagine what our new kit would be like with the Umbro template (England, Rangers above) as opposed to the Nike one....Soooo much better. No stupid raised stitching around the badge for a start

Umbro started that. Here's a badge and here's a shirt. . .now join'em together and you've got yourself a United top. Anyone recall those cheap DIY knock offs in the 80s? our kits look like them. I suspect they're easier to mass produce.

I've got a knock off Barcelona one from 94 with the badge sewn on....it actually looks better than our new nike ones, as there isn't an extra thing around the badge, it's just the badge...albeit with little bits of thread hanging off it.

I'm sure they are easier to mass produce...but since the new Umbro team have managed to avoid doing that with the England World Cup top (which is hardly going to be a low selling number) then I can't see why Nike can't manage it. And that rangers one looks like an absolute bitch to do

Roma's is exactly the same. Wind is such a shit sponsor.

 Wind is awful.....Wind

so many sponsors just ruin a good shirt....

I quite like the Fulham one...apart form the Sponsor...Sponsors should never be allowed to have their tagline underneath. It'd be a bit like nike having "just do it" underneath the tick. Mongish. Imagine AIG having "the strength to be there" underneath....urrrrgggh.

On a semi related side rant...anyone seen that new MUTV ad for Aon?

Giggs: "We have AON in Manchester"
Evra: "Nous avon AON en France"
Fletcher: "Ouch Ey de nooo nooo AON in Scotchland"

I DONT GIVE A feck!!!...I SERIOUSLY DONT GIVE A feck WHERE AON IS, WHAT THE FLYING THUNDER feck DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH ANYTHING!!!...ARRGGHHHHH!!!

Ya get me?

No one does...but they're everywhere apparently...and yet no one cares

it just makes me want to be sick over everything, everywhere. feck..Off

They should have had the Glazers in that video just for a laugh.

What's the difference between this thread and an episode of Sex in the City?

Very little. Substitute 'kit' for 'Manolo's' and see what I mean.

I used to work for Aon...they are a global reinsurance company.....based in Romford.
