The New Kits Thread

Does seem odd i will admit. Ole maybe because he was speaking for lots of countries, do the other two countries have more than one language?
No, only one language in each country: Norwegian, Potatish and Spastic. And Finland are Russians anyway, they don't count.

Villa will have to share our pain next season.

The colours are too dull. Should be more vibrant, but its still a classy looking kit.

They are the same rich shade of green and gold as the likes of Sam Black would have worn in the 1880s. Green and Gold should not look like luminous marker pens.

Only messing, but the amount of lurid bloody bright green and yellow (rather than gold) mock-ups I've seen drives me up the wall. They never had those modern colours in the Victorian era when Newton Heath were playing at North Road.

Also, that Blackpool kit... Where do these companies get their designers? That is beyond awful.

The Rangers kit should have been Sunderland's home - it's better with the regular sleeves rather than the raglan type which makes the stripes look a bit rubbish.

Disregarding the last sentence, I'll give it a go later but I've got to go out to the pub now. It's a hard life.]

Edit: I just remembered that I made a mock-up of a green and gold kit (with my redesigned club crest instead of the current monstrosity) based on the new Blackburn kit. While it's not as good as the England kits, it's still a nice simple design from them and I think it'd be great for a post-Glazer United celebration kit:

That sir, is brilliant.

I was actually thinking about this after i made the post. Its green and gold, but everything ive seen has been yellow. Touché i suppose.

Yeah, sorry. Being a kit geek, it winds me up when I see the ugly shite some people call green and gold.

I did this a while back, and I suppose it does have a shade of "murray mints" or some type of rolling tobacco packaging to it, but it's rich, lustrous and traditional:

As requested by Mockney:

Based on the England/Rangers template:

Based on the Republic of Ireland template:

I wannit!! (first one mainly...the second I actually think the 06/07 kit was a slightly better variation on the same idea)

Thing about the Umbro kits of that first template (England home) is that the fabric and shape of the shirt is a cut above the Nike (or any other) kits...they feel and look much better than you're average sports shirts do on. You can also happily walk round a shopping center in them without feeling like a gimp in a football shirt

I think the ireland template looks worse mainly due to the way it was photographed. It's not on a mannequin so it looks quite shapeless. It's fitted just like the England one though apparently. I'm always a fan of v-necks on United shirts too.

The England template looks like a modern version of the very first kits Umbro made for United after WWII.

It's the thin white stripes on the sides of the Ireland template that I don't like - I like the (admittedly simple)red shirt with white collar (and possibly sleeve cuffs/caps).

New City away has been released. It's basically the home shirt in navy with a different collar:

This is the trouble with the "Tailored" stuff. You get a great desgn simple design to start with but then a year later they have to change it. This is how kit design started to go wrong in the first place - they should have kept them for two years minimum.

Also, what does navy have to do with City? I expected a red and black or maroon and white striped shirt for them this year.

to be honest...it's mainly the little white fairy stripe down the side I don't like...exactly the kind of thing Nike like to do on our kits for absolutely no reason whatsoever...well actually there is a reason: To distinguish it from other kits and justify releasing another one for a heinous some of money.

The first one looks like nothing special...or even a rugby kit for that matter, but it's classy, and timeless.. I'd buy it and keep it as a standard, timeless kit, without ever really feeling the need to buy another one...which is what I think of the current England one (apart from the fact mine has J.Cole - 11 on it...meaning I'll have to buy a proper replica one to actually keep as a timeless wearable). Especially since National teams don't have a sponsor.

That's why the main United shirt I actually wear is this one:

Weirdly, despite having an actual year on the shirt, it still feels (to me at least) far more timeless than my other United shirts.

I've actually got one with the City of Manchester crest on an old-school rugby like collared top..a but like that, no sponsor or maker or nuffin...I unfortunately don't know where it is...I never wear kits to games, but I'd actually wear that first umbro one...but that's probably the problem, it's timeless...so there's little incentive for us to shell out for another one.

Umbro face such a problem with England I think. There were more people in the current kit at this WC than I've ever seen before at a tournament. They're usually a mishmash of different ones from down the years, but this time is was almost uniformly this kit, cos all the fans loved it (and they didn't look fecking stupid in it for a change) I envisage the sales of England's next kit being much lower for just this reason. ....and the fact it's actually quite embarrassing to be seen in an England kit right now

Yeah, that's the whole problem with designing kits to be bought, rather than to look good on the team. It leads to increasingly pointless decorative flourishes that make shirts look shitter and shitter until a brand re-boots the cycle by designing a "classic" look - like Umbro just did. I'd hazard a guess that in another decade Umbro will be back to producing awful shirts like they did in the mid to late-90s.

Classy and timeless, no sponsors - that's exactly what I like about that England shirt, and would love for United to have a similar one. The early 70s floppy collared ones are the nearest we get to that but the replicas are made of stiff, heavy cotton and are a bit too baggy.

Also, SecondFig - I own an original 1958 cup final shirt and it is made of the softest cotton you could imagine. It's shaped as well. The replicas just don't compare, but I can't wear it because it's far too valuable. It is very tempting though. I actually plan to get a replica made to the original pattern.

Undoubtedly...It's inevitable.

That's a thing of beauty, was it actually worn in the final? If you ever do get a copy made to the original measurements and don't mind getting a couple done drop me a pm.

It was not worn, it was made as a spare. I don't know what it would be worth if it had been worn, I'd guess 4-5 times at least what mine is worth.

If I can get a replica sorted, I'll certainly look into getting more made.

Everything from the collar to the embroidered crest, that shirt is a beauty.

Despite wanting to walk on it with shit stained shoes on, I have to admit its a very nice shirt indeed.

Incidentally I like my new Liverpool one (not that you care :p ). Seems like we're both getting some retro-ness back in our shirts which is a good thing.

Can someone in Singpore please make that shirt so I can buy it and never need to buy another shirt ever again.

I'm poster of the year on the biggest Man Utd forum on the net....Make it so!! (does that work Pogue?)

Ideally yes...but it's not a deal breaker. it would need to be the same fabric and shape as the England kit though. Which is bloody wanking fantastic to be fair. And don't call me shirley.

Which shirt do you want? Give me the pic and your sizes. Next time I pass a tailor in Singapore or Bangkok, I'll ask him to make you one up. Wont cost more than a tenner.
