Oh God! Why? Why did we bother to win a rubbish tournament like the Europa League? Why would a club with so much prestige like ours bother with such a second grade competition after we made the obvious error of employing idiots who sent us there and why should we even celebrate winning it. We are the best club in the world, bigger than Real Madrid and Barcelona, we should never ever celebrate winning what's in front of us. OH GOD!

Well we had to to get into CL, because we fecked up our league campaign.

If the EL didn't have CL qualification we probably would've deliberately crashed out in the group stages, because we'd (rightly) see it as an annoying distraction.

I'll give Mourinho some credit for having the foresight to see that we might have to win it in order to get CL football though.

This is true to a certain extent...Looking back now, obviously I would pick winning the Europa League over coming 2nd,3rd Or 4th And it all worked out well for us in the end.But we were struggling to finish in the top 4 even before the quarter finals of the Europa League...Maybe the Thursday night football and the long away trips to Eastern Europe took their toll on our league form, but we weren’t good enough to finish in the top 4 that season...But obviously winning the EL is much much better than just finishing 4th...

Barcelona and Real Madrid aren't among the clubs who've done it. Do you think they'd rather not have lost to us in 1991 or Chelsea in 1971?
Which sort of proves the point that the Europa league isn't worth shit.

I've already addressed this. The old CWC and UEFA cup had more prestige and status for several reasons (only one club per nation in the European Cup, smaller differences between clubs, etc).

Do you think any of them give a crap that they haven't won the EL?

So your mad at Jose and the lads for winning the Europa League??

Have either of them appeared in the competition since it was introduced? I imagine if either of them found themselves playing in the EL, they would do their utmost to win it.

Who says I need any favors? First of all, if you don't want snarky responses then maybe look at your own posts, you're kind of inviting them. Second, moronic posts like that deserve sarcastic replies.

You clearly do, considering you're about to lose it in here. It's okay to back down, mate. No shame.

He specifically says it's not a success because "last season Chelsea's competition was Champions League, they were in the Europa League because they went out of the group stages of the Champions League".

Pretty clear the context of the reigning European champions being knocked out of the Champions League group stages and the context of Van Gaal leaving him solely the Europa League to compete for are different.

Already thread banned one person(temporarily). Try to argue like adults rather than making smarky remarks. The next one gets a warning.

You sound gutted

Unlucky mate. Maybe next week we'll lose
Maybe We'll win, maybe we'll lose, it's all rather irrelevant at this point. The fact is we aren't winning the league playing that way. We won't be close to the CL either. Maybe We'll scrape a domestic cup.

Call me negative or whatever but if anyone can't see that's where we're heading then I, I don't know what to say.

This is a terrible place for us to be. We'll be here for as long as ignorance remains a bliss.

I was just gobsmacked by that poll...A thumping majority of fans on here actually wanted him out...
It was at 60% after the Spurs game. Now 50%, so a fair chunk of those who decided that he must be sacked immediately now think he needs more time. Just shows how fickle a lot of fans are. Guaranteed they'll change their vote again after the next bad result. It's a stupid poll anyway. One "sack" option and 2 differently worded "don't sack" options makes little sense to me.

We might be playing better than usual under Mourinho - I don't see much difference - however if people think that this is the best that can be done with this group of players then that is diabolical.

Problem is that's your assessment, maybe others look at everything as a whole and come up with something different.

Unless you're the smartest man on the planet? If so you need a special tag on your username so we know.

Honestly I voted NO even after the Spurs defeat. How on earth can United sack a manager in September?!!And I agree, there should have been only 2 options-Sack or Stick...The Not yet, needs more time is a cop out...

So, if it's not being spoilt, what is it then?
Without wishing to speak for all the Mourinho critics on here, I would suggest it is borne of disillusionment at the football being played, and the ability to get the best out of some seriously talented players.

Personally i genuinely think we've got some of the best forward players in the game, yet all too often last season we resorted to lumping it long to Fellaini. That isn't a tactic; it's an absence of one.

Also, the ridiculously over-cautious way we've played in several big games has really grated on a lot of fans. That's why the Sevilla lost turned so many fans off Mourinho. Had we just played normally and attacked them, we'd probably have beaten them.

I'm not bothered about trophies, I just want us to play attacking, fluid football and have a strategy for how we want to play. I'm sure that view is shared by many other critics.

But go ahead and throw insults if that's the way you want to debate with us.

What group of players?

Pogba and De Gea are world class.

Lukaku is very good.

Sanchez is past it. Martial had one good season and had fans using everything from Mourinho to Voodoo magic to excuse him since.

Mata is past it. Herrera is hit and miss. Rashford is being overrated due to romanticism and will likely end up as Welbeck.

Shaw is doing ok so far. Valencia and Young are old and not full-backs. Jones is a crock Smalling didnt make England WC squad. Bailly has potential but is hit and miss, Lindelof is a flop.

Apart from DDG and Pogba, how many of these players would be regulars for City, Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool?

Riiiiight, so what you're saying is - I think - that fans are describing winning the EL as worthless because they are disillusioned with Mourinho's tactics. I think you're half right. And that's pretty weird isn't it? The club wins a European trophy but some say that it isn't worth shit cos they don't like the manager. I tend to support the club first and foremost, but each to their own.

But go ahead and throw insults if that's the way you want to debate with us.

Apologies, I didn't realise you were such a sensitive soul. Now that you've explained that people's disdain for their club winning a European trophy is actually just down to a dislike of Mourinho I retract my earlier assessment of it being down to being spoilt.

I wanted him gone, his approach to the games depressed me, irrespective of the results, I thought his approach was unworthy of the history of the club. However in the last 3 games there has been a definite change in approach, numbers committed forward, full backs released early, a greater focus on quick penetrative passes forward, and you can see the beginnings of a more confident team starting to emerge. Instead of worrying so much about their own weaknesses they are trying to make the opponents worry about the strengths of Utd.

Fans will be far more patient when they can see that change occurring, up to Mou now to not fall back on old ways when adversity strikes. The optimism that started within the fans after a 3-0 loss at home was born through the different style.
