Even Ed isn't going to be fooled into signing 76-year-olds by these shenanigans.

Mourinho has vowed to fight back in the coming 2019/20 season and has made a whopping SIX new signings:

The interview was a month ago only just aired. Doesn't change anything.
I blame Ed Woodward for this situation. The club wants to build a young squad. Why employ this guy?
Club wants to build a young squad?

If Fergie said that no one would bat an eyelid. Same goes for Pep.

But they don't. Ok, at least they won't when their teams are lying in 8th and they are completely dependent on these "immature kids" to save their job and the season.

I don't necessarily disagree with what he says. But what good does saying it out loud do? For a guy who is acclaimed as one of the smartest managers, he sure seems a few bricks short of a load.

Okay so We have two versions of what He said. I cannot be arsed to check which one is which, next game please. :wenger:

Too late, posters have already piled on so the subtleties do not matter.
He's not even singling out Martial etc as the title suggests, its the current generation as a whole.
But posters have already jumped in their favourite topic so there's no holding back now. His actual point simply does not matter..

Aye he's known for his subtleties isn't he...

That's wonderful. He's doing a shit job, and to make it worse he's now going to start complaining (shitpost baby-boomer style) about those snowflake millennials.

You're the one getting riled up about his views on millennials though.
The problem here is you've bitten into the misrepresentation and still associate the two versions together to the point you're essentially angry about nothing, you just want to be angry.
There's plenty of Sir Alex quotes about youngsters not cleaning boots anymore or having agents in the reserves etc.
Making it worse ffs..

He's right but there wasn't any need to say it right now.
He doesn't like when they talk and write shite about him so should refrain from this kind of comments. Only gives fire to the media and doesn't help in any kind.

That's just it, what does he hope to accomplish by publically condemning his own players' attitude in the press? Releasing such a statement serves no purpose to himself, the players or the club in general, quite the opposite in fact.

The man needs a gag order.

He’s a been a real shining example for the team to follow this season hasn’t he.

Because he is out of form? What about last season? Tired of this same old shit with people talking like he has given us nothing because he isn't playing well at the moment.

I couldn't give a toss what his actual views are - he's clearly a miserable twat so it makes no odds to me.

I do wish he would shut the fcuk up and actually do his bloody job. Which so far he is failing miserably to do. That's what annoys me when I read this shite. He's just passing the buck and protecting himself (in both versions of the quotes).

He wasn’t that good last season either, he was decent for me, but that’s not a discussion for this thread.

Also I don’t have exact numbers, but anecdotally I’m fairly sure that most pro footballers come from poor backgrounds, it’s not just Lukaku.

Yeah I dont think Rashford and Shaw grew up like Lukaku.

Ok this is epic

But what could he possibly hope to achieve by expressing his opinion in the press? Where is the benefit?

Mourinho: "Luke Shaw, he's got big potential but doesn't know how to behave. Big potential, yes, big potential."

Mourinho: "We're talking about Luke Shaw, Martial, Lingard, Rashford - young, big potential, but at the end of the day it results in the word I cannot say, but you use it a lot here. Character, personality, they lack a little." #mulive [univision]

Mourinho: "They are spoilt kids now, the kids of today have a different life, an easier environment and i'm talking about the people around the players." #mulive [univision]

Mourinho: "They (young players) are lacking maturity - and let me be clear when I say maturity, I mean maturity on a personal level." #mulive [univision]

He's so tedious. Let's just be done with his ugly as feck football and general attitude. Simply not good enough.

Apparently, every older generation regards the following generation as 'soft'; give it a rest, granddad...
fecking Socrates complained about the youngsters back in his day. And I mean the Greek one, not the Brazilian.

 Tis true. I'm sure footballers are more pampered these days. But what do you expect with as much money pouring into the game as it is? And at the end of the day other managers get the job done regardless.

Yeah well, he was wrong too.
*pokes tongue out*

I genuinely think mentality in football is getting way overstated. Yeah - it is important but I'd rather see the most gifted players be given time and a platform to succeed (which gives a greater chance of improving mentality rather than being on the sidelines), rather than a yard dog get lots of games just because he "follows instructions". They kick a ball around for a living.

This is the closer.

It's not like United are suffering something other clubs don't have as well.

It must have wound him up so much when Pogba went and won the WC in the summer. He must have been fuming about that.

I think Jose may be experiencing a generation gap with the younger players. That's why he keeps going for 29 year olds. That's not good.

But they're millennials too.

He can't escape the 'soft cnuts' unless he starts bringing people out of retirement or something.

Don't know about that but his comments post WC about Pogba were petty fecking weird.

Anyway, I'd be delighted if Mourinho truly proves himself at United but I can't see it happening at the moment. We need someone better.

He's like a father to these players. Other managers just want to coach.

Mourinho wants to improve them as individuals.

They'll appreciate it more when they're older.

He fell out with senior players at Real Madrid.

I'd say his problem is players no longer follow him blindly like the Porto, 1st Chelsea and Inter players did. Players are probably more questioning of his methods and somebody of Mourinho's ego feels cynical and vindicative about that.

So, let me guess, Sterling, Sane, Stones, Laporte and Jesus were all already magnificent individuals while Martial, Shaw, Rashford, Lindelof and Bailly are/were messed up immature kids?

Thing is they don’t bloody say it. Only Jose does. He’s just an idiot. Can’t wait tell he poisons someone else’s club.

The only thing I can think of is its Mourinho posturing for new players to replace them all while they arent "mature" enough to be starting for him

Last thing we need is a bunch of mediocre 30 year olds imposed on the next manager who we are unable to get rid of.

Can you provide any examples where Fergie named multiple young players from his own squad, and criticized their attitudes and ability to compete? Genuinely curious as to whether he did this at any point as I can't remember it happening in such a fashion.

It didn’t.

And God knows he had some absolute waste men on his books at times (looking at you, Anderson)

Talent is a small part of winning. I'd say mentality is huge in football, you see it all the time, incredibly talented players with the wrong attitude getting absolutely nowhere. Ravel Morrison was a good example of that.
