The MMA thread

I've fallen out of love with mma recently. I can't quite pinpoint why, but it saddens me :(

Lay and Pray.

Wrestling taking over and more and more fights going to decision. The UFC needs to revamp the rules and stop giving wrestlers such a dominant edge over all other forms of martial art. One dimensional wrestlers are winning too many points via decision and it's making for boring ass fights.

Bring in the yellow cards.

Change the 10 point scoring system.

Allow soccer kicks, knees to downed opponents.

Get the blood back into blood sport!

Watch it go back into the dark ages then...

I totally agree with ya personally. Oversensitive people are holding MMA back. If they don't like it don't watch like

Agree with that, but knees to downed opponents could give some of these wrestlers a pretty major advantage

Lots of exciting MMA around outside of UFC though. Bellator usually put on some awesome shows, and check out the Japanese orgs, packed full of entertaining, technical fighters

Speaking of which, DREAM 16 later this month  Two of my favourite fighters in action, Sakuraba and Aoki. Both got tough fights I could see them losing though. Tokoro in there too long with Mousasi, should be a great event

UFC Fight Night 22 in a couple days (15th Sept).

10 Fights confirmed and some very tasty matchups on offer. Really looking forward to:

Nate Marquardt (No. 4 MW) vs. Rousimar Palhares
Cole Miller vs. Ross Pearson
Efrain Escudero vs. Charles Oliveira
Jim Miller vs. Gleison Tibau
Tomasz Drwal vs. Dave Branch

This on UK tv?

Hope it's an early one if so. I've class the morning after

It's free on Spike TV, and also on UFC.com (you might need to pay for that though)

In the UK I believe it's on ESPN: Sky 417, Virgin 529 ESPN HD: Sky 442, Virgin 530.

It should be pretty early because they show TUF 12 season premier after the fights.

Daley had some trouble as well. Taken down time and again, but just about recovered to get a UD.

Daley needs to get his act together. He missed weight again. And it's quite clear he hasn't learnt anything from the Koscheck fight. Work on your fecking wrestling for gods sake or move to K1.

Shit it's on at 3am. Won't get the TUF live here at all either. Hope it's on Setanta Ireland, dont have Setanta 1

I'll probably download the individual fights or the HDTV caps if they are any exciting ones, so if you need it PM me a few hours after the fights and i'll hook you up with the details.

Cool. Cheers bud, didn't even realise there was a Fight Night until I clicked this thread:)

Jardine lost again, fifth straight. How the mighty (well not really) have fallen!

To be fair, Jardine was never 'mighty'. He's won 2 of his last 9, and both victories were by split decision.

Shark fights was actually a very good night of fights. Sodkjou (or however the feck you spell it) is such a waste of talent.

That is terrible news. But I knew it would happen. They will eventually get the whole lot and start charging for the PPV's

I will make a point of downloading them instead.

I really like Rousimar Palhares, the guy has a lot of potential. Really nasty cnut though.

Charles Oliveira's BJJ looked amazing in his UFC debut, really slick. Surprised he's fighting so soon after the Jones - Vlad card.

Ariel Helwani's saying a Penn v Hughes welterweight bout is almost confirmed for UFC 123, the same card as Rampage v Lyoto and Parisyan v Hallman. Huge!

Penn vs Hughes III. Have a feeling this will not end well for Penn. It's a huge gamble to go up against a big WW so early after his last fight. There is no way that Penn will be able to add muscle and we might see a bigger, slower penn then we did against Edgar.

Penn should on paper win on skill alone, but he'll need to show some fire and come in motivated and that's always an unknown with him. Not sure who is advising Penn, but this is a fight I would have avoided coming off back to back loses. If Penn loses I can see him retiring.

Silly from Palhares. Gotta play till the whistle. Could have made his claims about greasing between rounds, or once the fight had been stood up. Instead he left himself undefended and ultimately looking stupid as he was wrong.

Man, forgot about this :(

Read what happened though. Wouldn't be the first time Marquardt has cheated, and wouldn't be the first time a Jackson fighter has greased. But I doubt they could away with it. Will have to watch the fight. Pretty sad Palhares lost

Sounds like another impressive BJJ performance from Charles Oliveira though

Disappointed with Palhares...there are no time outs in fighting for fecks sake. Marquardt was checked and Palhares has issued an apology. There was definitely no greasing of the ankles. Hopefully Palhares has learnt his lesson and gets another chance at some point soon.

Very impressed with Oliviera as well. Didn't think his striking would be that crisp, and with those long legs he's a real handful at BJJ as well. 20 years old, looks a real top prospect.

Anyone seen the season premiere of TUF 12? Looks like we have another Yager in the house..

And the previews look like they might offer some more in-house and gym action than last season's standard procedure;

Rampage: "I'mma feck you up bitch"
Rashad: "Yeah, well come then"
Rampage: "Yeah, I'll feck you up, just wait"
*Rampage smashes hand through door*

Yep, watched it last night. Looks like a promising season even if I think the format is a little stale now. From the clips they showed at the end it looks like someone is gonna get thrown off the show.

Always good to see the smaller guys fight as well.

Wish Pride FC was still around.

Apparently Sonnen tested positive for PED's at the Silva fight :(

Gained so much respect for him on that performance

Didn't realize Barnett had officially signed with Strikeforce. Their HW division is pure sex. Fedor, Barnett, Sergei, Overeem, Werdum, Bigfoot, with Del Rosario coming up and also the likes of Arlovski and Rogers who can do some good stuff.

Fedor - Barnett please

Sonnen vs Silva rematch might be off...

Damn, is it too late for the UFC to bump Okami and get Belfort to fight Silva? Come on Dana! Give the fans the fight everyone has been wanting for years.

Efrain Escudero has been released after losing to Oliveira. Alright he's a fairly boring fighter, but he did win TUF and I'd have thought that would have protected him from being released so soon, just because he's 2 and 2 in the UFC.

Its surely protected Mac Danzig who went to 2 and 3 before winning and then losing again.

With Efrain cut, I'm guessing the next TUF winner to get the boot if he loses will be Amir Sadollah. I don't blame the UFC for giving him his walking papers even though I probably would have given Efrain one more fight. They want to make sure the divisions are competitive and keep the integrity of the UFC as the elite show intact.

All this really proves is that TUF is really only a proving ground for guys who aren't good enough to get into the UFC on skill alone. Only in the first season did you get a real good crop of fighters (and back then the UFC itself wasn't as big as it is now).

TUF 12 for example doesn't really look that strong. There are maybe 2-3 guys there who I think can even make it in the UFC, the rest look really raw prospects.

Next to be kicked has got to be Danzig. At least Sadollah's standup is fairly exciting and he can submit people with an active guard.

The thing with TUF 1 is they had multiple fighters fighting way above their optimal weight. Florian and Sanchez fighting at middleweight, Mike Swick at light heavy. Clearly they were just using their stockpile of talents regardless of size and weight.

I'd love to see Belfort vs Silva. Funnily, I watched Affliction: Day of Reckoning last night, with Belfort's frightening KO of Lindland. Still get a wave of relief when I see Lindland get up afterwards!

Reports that BELFORT might be injured and pulled out of UFC 122 against Okami. Nate Marquardt could be slotted in to fill his spot to decide who will potentially get the next shot at Anderson Silva.

No official word from the UFC yet, but I'm thinking this might be something that was done to ensure that Silva and Belfort fight in case Sonnen gets his 1 year ban. Stay tuned for more! :)

Hmmm...not too sure about that.

I hope we have a good fight and Belfort doesn't choke. I don't really have a clear favorite, I just want to see a WAR.

Good news. Jumping straight on Vitor's bandwagon here. But he's so unpredictable. He has everything to completely wreck Anderson's shit, but I wouldn't be too surprised to see him lose in embarrassing fashion either.
