The MMA thread

It is disappointing that USADA applies rules differently to suit the UFC's whims. The amount that Jones popped for, however small, is more than they have banned other sports people for in the past. Lawler was given two years for a 3x smaller amount and an NHL player was banned for just 1 picogram of the substance. If this is a 'pulsing' effect from the last failure and given the half life of the substance, then there must have been a hell of a lot of it in his system the last time, which makes you wonder why the penalty was so lenient. It all stinks.

It was hardly the perfect kick, in fact it was more shin than foot, but it did the trick. DC just made a major tactical mistake by spending much of the preceding minute or two over pursuing Jones too aggressively to where he lost defensive concentration for a moment.

Which is what the perfect head kick is supposed to be. Jones length allows him to easily connect with his shin whereas often fighters will have to stretch it and connect with their foot. But ideally you connect with with the shin if you can generate the force. It's a baseball bat. The foot is much more fragile.

WADA seems to disagree and say that the substance has never been shown to be detectable beyond 6 months. USADA gets a lot of money from the UFC. Not to mention Novitzky suddenly moving over from USADA to being the vice head of health and performance for the UFC. It all seems rotten unfortunately.

It's 100% a cover up.

Hopefully more fighters will speak up against the UFC. This situation is strike worthy.

Nobody is forcing these guys to fight for the UFC. They can always feck off to Belator or ONE if traveling 3 hours to another city is too much of an inconvenience.

No offence meant man. Didn't mean to single you out. It just seems that Conor never gets the respect he deserves on here. I understand hating him for him being a prick but it's like people hating Ronaldo for being sexy (and we both know he is ). Conor is quality and he never should have take the Khabib fight coming off a lay off none of you guys will acknowledge that he did. We'll agree to disagree (I love Al and think he is better than most think he is but unless you have a Khabib level takedown game then anyone standing with a McGregor who cares (Think contender at 145 Conor) is toast. Even Tony unless he has a Nate chin. The only people beating Conor at 145 or 155 are those that can get it to the ground. In pure striking he is the best in both devisions. You must admit you guys were waiting for this and you have in fact underrated him at this point.

The fact you say 'Irish tap machine' is clear on this. Is Jose Aldo, the best FW of all time a Brazilian 'Fall on his face machine'? I've acknowledged Conor's faults but isn't it time you realised his strengths? He ain't hype, he's a proper contender especially when he is focused. Honestly it likes a Madrid fans saying Messi is shite because he's 5'6. For what's it's worth I'd bet you that Conor kills every 155 within 2 rounds than Nate (best boxing at 155 and a zombie), Ferguson and Khabib.

Anyway lovely to discuss MMA. Respect all the way. What you reckon for this weekend?
Yeah, he is a phenomenal fighter, no one in his right mind can deny that. I'm just not sure if he takes his training as serious as he used to, because it seems like all the fame went to his head with all the shenanigans he's been part of lately. He's proven me wrong time and time again; I thought Aldo would beat him and thought the same with Alvarez. Let's see how/if he comes back from this last loss though. By the way, I'm not entirely sure I agree that he's the best striker in both divisions. Barboza, Ferguson and Holloway all have ridiculous striking too. Conor against any of those would be an amazing matchup.

The Irish tap machine was tongue in cheek, I actually like how humble Conor is in defeat. But then in the buildup to the next fight I always lose all the respect I gained for him again due to his antics.

Holy shit.... I just read up on the Jones thing and thought the fight was cancelled for a second! I think Jones will beat Gus much easier time around. I'm going for a TKO in round 3.

UFC is always such a shitshow. I'm regularly put off by the whole sport because of the wrestling-like fake drama and double standards from Dana.

Outrageous that they can just move to another state where the commission does not give a shit.

I personally don't give too much of a shit about PEDs but either take it seriously or don't.

Yeah, sometimes it can be very hard to be a fan of the UFC. Based on the second test it does appear that Jones might be clean, but there will always be an element of doubt now with him.

:lol::lol::lol: What bloody news, especially after watching his fights just last night. Ban the piece of scum for life. Honestly how can the UFC do this to the other fighters? Turns out Hunt was right all along.

Can't help but pull for Gus now, can't imagine there's much respect or good will for Jones from the other fighters on the card either.

Jesus just heard about this after a crazy weekend. What a fecking shit show. Jones is cnut and terrible human being. Dares to sexually assault another man's wife to get a rise out of him and not even going to mention the testing positive for PED's again. It's a joke.

In fairness it was DC who took to Twitter to accuse him of “doing it again” which has been repeatedly debunked by the data that’s coming out. DC should probably recuse himself from talking about Jones to avoid looking like the bitter champ who never managed to defeat his number one rival.

Jones beat him fair and square twice. Unless you think you have to be on PEDs to successfully execute a head kick.
Out of interest what sport would you accept that performance enhancing drugs do in fact enhance performance?

If this was athletics would you say "do you think you have to be on PEDs to put one leg in front of the other?" Or if the entire squad of a premier league team is proven to be juiced to the gills are we going to say "do you think you have to be on PEDs to kick a ball into the net?"

Such a silly argument.

I hope Jones win against Gus and DC, just to see how pissed off @George Owen gets
I'd usually root for Gus, as a fellow Scandinavian.
I hate that Jones fecked up his career like he did, i still enjoy watching him fight.

They help in virtually every sport if taken in large enough quantities and administered by people who actually know what they are doing. That’s an entirely separate debate than a bunch of anonymous twitter trolls seeking to crucify Jones for something he was actually cleared for by an official testing organization and various Cormier fans actively shopping for excuses about why their guy lost.

I like both Gus and Jones. Should be a great fight, even though something tells me the vultures will be out in full force afterwards. If Jones wins they will cry steroids. If Gus wins they will say it shows how mortal Jones is when he’s not on something. Can’t win with some people.

So we've managed to find an excuse for the dodgy testosterone levels pre-ufc182, an excuse for hiding from usada under a cage for 8 hours, an excuse for the first failed drugs test, an excuse for the 2nd failed drugs test, and now an exuse for the 3rd failed drugs test.

Is your argument that he's genuinely that unlucky or he's attempting to cheat in such small doses that it isn't actually helping his performance?

Hopefully Jones wins although Gus seems a really hard fight to take on your comeback. I like Jones, that run after taking the belt of Shogun was awesome, where he fought every big name. He makes it very hard to be a fan of his though.

I'm referring to the news from yesterday only.

It always surprises me that some people still like Jones. I mean rating him as a fighter I obviously understand but actually liking him personality-wise after everything? Strange.

I always rooted for Jones, especially in the two fights with DC but now, I just can't stand him.

I want Gus to destroy him but I doubt that'll happen.

Nowhere near as hilarious as your hatred for DC. It's getting a bit embarrassing at this stage.

I don't hate DC at all. He's one of the great fighters of the sport. He does seem obsessed with Jones though, which shows how bitter he is about his own legacy being tarnished because he will always be remembered as 2nd best.

Comes across as if you do hate him as you're constantly putting him down.

There's no doubt part of him is obsessed with Jones, would never deny that. The UFC get's hated on for faking rivalries but this isn't fake, they legit hate each other and that's clear. DC has every reason to be bitter. Jones failed a drug test after beating him however much you attempt to claim it made no difference to the result (a fight that DC was winning before the KO IMO but was very close). These failed tests have tarnished Jones massively because now we will never know if he was truly incredible or if he was boosted by performing enhancing drugs.

To me it's fantastic to see DC finally getting some of the credit he deserves as he's a fantastic fighter and comes across as a good guy. It's a deserved turn around after he was booed at the Jones press conference while Jones, a guy doing hit and runs, doing drugs, failing PED drug tests , saying he would kill people etc was cheered. Ironic that Cormier has gone on to do everything Jones wanted to do and win the Heavyweight title and be the first guy to defend the title in two different weight classes. I hope they fight a third and final time tbh as I think it's one of the best rivalries in UFC history.

He's bitter because his only two losses are to a guy that shoots up the juice

Does anyone over here posts in mmafighting or Bloody Elbow? From what i've seen over there, Jones credibility with most hardcore fans is gone.

Should have his record wiped and Cormiers should be fixed to 22-0-0.
