The MMA thread

Not sure why people are saying Lee won? The Raging Real Estate for me definitely won that fight (RD: 1, 4 & 5).

Thought Iaquinta nicked it but it was definitely close. Lee has no one but himself to blame for leaving it to the judges.

His corner was giving him terrible advice. Should of gone for more takedown where he had success. Iaquinta had him worked out standin up.

Aye, I scored it the same. Lee's reaction when the scores were read out cracked me up. I know he'd took quite a beating but after the 49-46 card surely he can't have thought that he'd won 4 rounds? Rounds 4 and 5 were the clearest rounds of the fight, both in Al's favour.

Loved every minute of that main event. Ragin Al hasn't really received the respect he deserves and Kevin Lee is the opposite, getting way ahead of himself with a big ego. Clear as day for Iaquinta, he was piecing him up on the feet. Kevin Lee nicked a couple with takedowns but rounds 1,4 and 5 were clear. Couldn't help but laugh when Lee claimed to be 'speechless' at the verdict. The crowd weren't having any of it and I think that surprised him. He soon had to come back and face reality the bellend.

Also Khabib might get the credit he deserves for his Iaquinta win. He was ridiculously dominant in their fight and somehow people were portraying it as a disappointing, mediocre performance :wenger:

They really need to make Iaquinta vs Conor. Would love to see the irishman get destroyed by a real estate agent. Iaquinta is a savage.

Listened to Dominick Cruz interview on Ariel Helwani's show. Was great. Such an inspirational dude and well spoken. They way he deals with multiple adversities and his mind-set is truly brilliant.

Al Iaquinta was hilarious. When asked about Kevin Lee's dancing entrance, he said something along the lines of:

"I was standing in the cage thinking about slipping the jab and going for an elbow then the single leg... then I look over and see a fecking music video coming to the octagon and told myself, I'm not losing to this guy"

That's gonna be one hell of a fight night. Should probably be a proper PPV fight instead.

Just hope Cain makes it. If he does and is anything like his old self he takes this, but I am not convinced.

In anticipation of next week I just watched from Jones UFC debut (9 months after he started training MMA!) to his last fight against DC. The guy is an absolute phenom. The differnce in his stiking between Gusmao and Bonnar is actually crazy. Steroids of no steroids (I hate Jones but DC has been juicing the whole time too, watch any documentary on Olympic sports FFS) the guy is maybe the most naturally talented MMA fighters ever with a perfect body type to boot. Now after dick riding Jones I'll say that I expect him to be KOd by Gus this time out. His first legitimate loss. I just watched Conor v Khabib last week and while the result was what I expect 9/10 times, it wasn't the Conor we were used to seeing. He should have taken a warm up fight and if he keeps fighting and him and Khabib meet again then it isn't such a comfortable victory for Khabib but 9/10 times Khabib will still win. In the context of Jones v Gus, well Khabib is Conor's worst match up and Gus is Jones' worst one. It's too quick for Jon to go in against Gus this time around without a warm up. I know Gus has had as much time off but he hasn't had the things that Jon has had hanging over him.

However I will say that considering I just watched all Jon's fights and seen the stupid improvements he made each time (he called DC ducking left the first fight and KOd him with the right head kick the second fight) then maybe I'm wrong and maybe we are about to see a truly unbeatable beast of a Jon Jones enter the octogon. Either way I'm excited.

Also delighted for Al to beat Lee but outside of Khabib (90%) and Ferguson (50%) I don't see anyone at 155 beating a top form Conor (maybe Gregor Gellespie?). I know it's fun to shit on him because most people hate him but please stop ignoring the fact that he is a top class fighter.

I'm particularly looking at you @Vato. Unless Al can threaten the takedown then a focused Conor beats the shit out of him on the feet. Hate him because he's an absolute arsehole but you all should have been done doubting his talent since the Poirer fight.

Have you seen Al vs Khabib? I think you are the one underestimating Iaquinta here.

He would give Conor a run for his money at the very least...Plus Conor has fought just twice in the last few years. And one of those was a boxing match. I'll grant you this, with Iaquinta's style and Conor's powerful left hand it'll be a very dangerous fight for Al, but he's a mental bastard and Conor would have to knock him out to win. Al is all heart, man. Dunno if the same can be said abour your Irish tap machine. ha!

I really think it would be a great fight.

"... The presence of the metabolite is not consistent with re-administration of a prohibited substance, and this very low level would not result in any performance enhancement in relation to Mr. Jones’ upcoming bout.”

@Raoul come on man, DC has enough legit reasons to be pissed with that cheating cnut.

By the way, is this the first drug test Jones does since 2017? That would be weird right?

I wonder why it popped now and not months ago. ;)

Jones beat him fair and square twice. Unless you think you have to be on PEDs to successfully execute a head kick.

Seriously, worst excuse ever. Not even going to explain why.

All the fighters in the card have just learned about it ton twitter. Not from the UFC, who are only worried on not loosing the PPV money.

That's the devils bargain they made when they agreed to sign with Dana.

No offence meant man. Didn't mean to single you out. It just seems that Conor never gets the respect he deserves on here. I understand hating him for him being a prick but it's like people hating Ronaldo for being sexy (and we both know he is ). Conor is quality and he never should have take the Khabib fight coming off a lay off none of you guys will acknowledge that he did. We'll agree to disagree (I love Al and think he is better than most think he is but unless you have a Khabib level takedown game then anyone standing with a McGregor who cares (Think contender at 145 Conor) is toast. Even Tony unless he has a Nate chin. The only people beating Conor at 145 or 155 are those that can get it to the ground. In pure striking he is the best in both devisions. You must admit you guys were waiting for this and you have in fact underrated him at this point.

The fact you say 'Irish tap machine' is clear on this. Is Jose Aldo, the best FW of all time a Brazilian 'Fall on his face machine'? I've acknowledged Conor's faults but isn't it time you realised his strengths? He ain't hype, he's a proper contender especially when he is focused. Honestly it likes a Madrid fans saying Messi is shite because he's 5'6. For what's it's worth I'd bet you that Conor kills every 155 within 2 rounds than Nate (best boxing at 155 and a zombie), Ferguson and Khabib.

Anyway lovely to discuss MMA. Respect all the way. What you reckon for this weekend?

If there is still a residual amount of the stuff he tested positive for 18 months ago in his system. Then surely it definitely wasn't only trace amounts or a tainted supplement in 2017?

He must have had a fair amount of the stuff in his system which begs the question how did he only get a 12-15 month suspension for his 3rd drug violation when other guys like Chad Mendes were given 2 years for their first offence. Something about it all stinks.

Supposedly, he is a fecking snitch too.

Don't bother attempting. Jones simply gave him a well timed kick to the head.

As Vitor did to Rockhold and Bisping.

It's not so simple as to say PED's can't help you land a perfect head kick. Depending on the enhancement, they can increase your recovery to help you train it much more, they definitely give the fighter increased confidence and they can impact the fight in other ways leading up to the finishing blow.

It was hardly the perfect kick, in fact it was more shin than foot, but it did the trick. DC just made a major tactical mistake by spending much of the preceding minute or two over pursuing Jones too aggressively to where he lost defensive concentration for a moment.
