The MMA thread

Trash talking has always been in UFC, Conor may have taken it up a level but it's always been there. The likes of Shamrock,Koschek, Tito, Bisping, Lesnar and Sonnen all tried with varying degrees of success before Conor was on the scene. It works when it's natural. Bisping and Conor are 2 of the best examples, it just rolls of their tongue naturally. Sure there will be rehearsed bits here and there but when it's off the cuff, it's when you know it's natutral. Conor's put down to Stephens "who da fook is that guy". So simple yet ended that debate there and then. Guys like Colby and Rockhold is another, it doesn't come across as real, it's like its an act. I understand why they do it, but seems so forced.

CM Punk comes across alright whenever I've seen him (I've never watched WWE when he has been in it so don't know what he was like in that.) I don't mind the guy but he should be nowhere UFC. Equally I did see his interview with Helwani and he said he'd of understood if he got cut so it seems he's aware of it, can't really blame him for doing what he is, most people would do the same.

Colby doesn't wind me up, he just seems so tongue in cheek almost Zlatan like?

I think it's obvious it's an act it's just really cringing the stuff he comes out with. Zlatan is pretty self aware about himself and his persona. Colby just seems like a try hard to be honest, it has obviously worked to an extent cos he's got where he is now but it's just all a bit hard to watch.

Romero missed weight (again) only by a pound htis time so you'd think he could lose that in 2 hours. He looked like he was struggling a bit though.

well, I'm kinda glad Yoel missed weight.

Everything that goes wrong for the fat bald feck makes me happy.

Now i hope he understands why MM wont fight TJ without him making weight first.

They should make a rule. Any fighter who fails a weigh in, can never fight in that weight division again. They must move to the next higher weight division.

If you miss weight twice in one division then you should never be able to fight in that division again.

Edit @Raoul you're naturally more strict than I am!

It also incentivizes the UFC to not schedule fighters who they think might miss weight. Helps everyone in the end, including the fans.

Apparently they stopped the two hour period an hour early for some reason

It’s the second time in 2 fights I don’t feel sorry for him he shouldn’t be fighting at this weight.

They need to change the rules I agree with what people are saying in here but the fighters are to blame to they have a responsibility and aren’t doing it.

So boringly predictable now with fighters missing weight. 41 years old, this will have been his last chance of a title fight you'd imagine and he's blown it. No sympathy.

The Wiki page has been updated to 182.5 catchweight, so I'm guessing they may be looking at a 3 round non-belt fight. Better than nothing if true.

Yeah, agreed, although a 3 round fight suits Romero more...

I don’t really understand why they have such a narrow field of weight, it makes no sense. Have like a 3-4 pound swing each way because more than likely on the fight night you can have fighters vary from 10-30lbs heavier than the weigh in. They might get an advantage over another fighter who maybe can’t put on that much weight.
What they should have is you get down to a range and come fight night you can’t be over a certain weight.

Title fight is off because Romero couldn’t cut another .2lbs yet fight night Romero would probably weigh around 200lbs.

I get what you're saying but fighters would still take the piss, trying to most probably weigh in the heaviest they can.

Do you think punk has improved? The first match was embarrassing.

You’re probably right, people will always try and push it to the limits to get that advantage. The thing is people are putting their lives at risk. Draining their bodies that much and dehydrating themselves that it probably affects their performances anyway. Then there is the brain damage possibilities because you can’t rehydrate and have your body re-adjust in 24 hrs.
There just isn’t a way around it.

fecking class. Misses weight, gets a title shot anyway and misses weight again. Eye opener for the idiots who don't understand why DJ wants TJ to take a fight to prove he can make weight first. Or you know maybe TJ can stop calling a guy smaller than him a pussy and go fight Max for his superfight.

Glad it's worked out like this for Dana. Now I hope Whittaker knocks this lad around the cage.

On Punk, think he'll be shooting ASAP. If he can get it to the ground it could get interesting.
