The MMA thread

I don't know if it's sad or not, but I've more angst for that game tomorrow than any of ours throughout the season.... what are horrible summer it could be. Ugh.

Not sad at all mate. We've been chasing that European Cup/CL haul of theirs for as long a i've been alive and yet it WILL be one more further away tomorrow. Don't think I can watch tomorrow, I watched them in 2005 and I've still not forgotten that horrible night.

some bookies now giving Till as slight favourite, most have them same price 10/11 each. No real value in the outright odds to be honest. Round betting has more value, might go 2nd for Till at 13/2, and 3rd at 10/1. Thompson 16/1 for rnd 4 and 22/1 for rnd 5, good odds if Till tires in the championship rounds

I think Thompson wins on points. He won't want to engage with Till early on and hell point him to death as the fight goes on

Bellator 200 spoiler.

Mousasi . Love the guy and delighted to see him win a belt again. Flawless performance too and he must have absorbed virtually no damage, so hopefully that fight vs Rory MacDonald will get made for the near future.

What a beast. That fight with Rory gonna be awesome.

Why is MVP still in Bellator. I would think Dana would be all over that.

Maybes happy with the level he’s fighting and the money. UFC has far better fighters in his weight class and he’d eventually have to fight a few decent ones. In Bellator he can make a comfortable career fighting average fighters and they’d accommodate that. I don’t know if that would be the case in ufc.

Till missed weight. Guy looks a right dick at moment constantly posting on twitter etc he’s to big for the fighters and now misses weight cos of it

What is it with these tossers failing to make weight? It doesn't happen anywhere near as frequently in boxing.

He had months to prepare for the biggest fight of his entire life and he misses weight by a distance....

I can't for the life of me understand how Till has done that :wenger::wenger::wenger:

Aye, I really hope it gets signed soon. I'd pick Mousasi to win, probably after jabbing his nose into dust, but it's a really interesting fight.

He's got an exciting style but he's shown no inclination whatsoever to step up in competition and actually fight someone who can test him. After Yair getting (harshly) cut, I can't imagine Dana would be keen to shell out big money for MVP until he shows some willingness to take challenging fights.

Hope Wonderboy pulls out of it. To hell with these weight cutters, let them move up and be punished. Look at Rockhold and the likes, they were professional but they are the ones getting screwed over while the cheaters get the benefits.

Edit: thought this was a nice analogy. Imagine one of Real or Liverpool fielding a 12th player and losing 20% of the winnings but otherwise having no reprecussions.

Was listening to something the other day saying this is becoming incredibly common in UFC .... yet because it's more lucrative for all involved, the fights tend to always go ahead, and the overweight fighter has won every time recently .. is that true?

Basically saying it's become a farce, and fines need to be bigger. Because it's only a slight stain on the winner and overweight fighters career, yet could cripple the opponent in the long run as any loss could.

9-0 for overweight fighters at the moment. Assunscao was the last guy to beat someone who missed weight.

ah well, no wonder the odds changed yesterday. Someone must have known he was coming in heavy.

Anyway, for the sake of my economy, come on Wonderboy!

Should be a 50% penalty with funds to those who make weight. Wonderboy is in an awful position now, against a fighter who was way below him in rankings. Number one bullshit.

Hope Wonderboys smashes him and then Till is made go to his claimed proper weightclass to welcome Jones back with no USADA testing.

Fight is on. Till can't weigh more than 188 at 1pm tomorrow. 30% of Till's purse and bonuses to Wonderboy.

All in all a good negotiation on Wonderboy's part.

All in all a good negotiation on Wonderboy's part.

Very good. Props to his team who negotiated that deal!

Isn’t MVP signed to David Hayes boxing promotion. I know he’s had 1 boxing fight and that was a while ago but maybe he has more freedom with Bellator to do the two of them.

Not if he gets smashed, it's not. He's risking far more than that purse taking the fight!

It really shouldn't be allowed and the UFC need to introduce much severer penalties for fighters who miss weight because they're already too big for the division and then they add even more weight before the fight, which is actually dangerous for the lighter fighter.

Wanted to sit these two fight a fair one, but even if Till wins now, it's tainted because it will essentially be someone from a heavier weight class piling on an opponent he shouldn't get to fight in the first place.

Fair play to Wonderboy for taking this. Even with the 30% of Till's purse its a bold move.
Wouldn't have blamed him for not taking the fight after Till missing weight. The limit is there for a reason.

No I agree with you fully but most fighters don't get the weight limit that Thompson has gotten put in place for Till. It's better than nothing I guess, especially when Dana would've crucified Wonderboy for refusing the fight. Look at Romero, loses 30% pay but now gets to fight for the title and potentially makes more.

Off topic but kind of relevant I guess:

This is why I hate anyone who wants MM to fight TJ without TJ having to make 125 first. Here's what would happen: MM makes weight, TJ misses. MM is basically forced into accepting a fight against a guy who misses weight who already has a big size advantage on him anyway. Hell Mighty Mouse isn't a big 125er anyway. He's right though, TJ should have to take a fight at 125 first to prove he can make it. The UFC tend to look more poorly on those who refuse the fight than those who actually miss the weight. It's bullshit.
