Hang on, they've given him extra time and he only needs to get to 188lbs? Wasn't this supposed to be a 170 fight?

They should make the fighters weigh in every day for a week before the fight so it's both safe and you don't get people cutting ridiculous weight to they can fight a smaller man. How is it a 170 fight if the fighters in the ring weigh nearly 20 lbs more?

I think it means he can't rehydrate higher than 188, which is probably what Wonderboy will get up to at that point. It's in place to stop him getting the full advantage of missing weight. However, yes it's completely stupid and dangerous.

All fighters have to do it now, I mean Edgar used to be 155 champion- imagine him fighting Khabib or Lee he'd be tiny. I think Gunnar Nelson is the only guy I can think of that doesn't cut that much because he doesn't like it. But the problem is he'll always be undersized at 170 despite being more natural to that weight class than the others around him.

I agree. Weigh them every day for the week prior to the fight. Anything more than 5% off fight weight then the fight gets called off.
Not only is it dangerous cutting weight, but creates an unfair advantage unless both guys completely destroy themselves.
Maybe add a few more weight divisions so people can fight at a more natural weight for them too; rather than having to 'jump up' or 'cut down' to different weight classes.

Fight is on. Till can't weigh more than 188 at 1pm tomorrow. 30% of Till's purse and bonuses to Wonderboy.

All in all a good negotiation on Wonderboy's part.
That's a strange one. Fight will at like 10pm I assume? How much weight could Till realistically gain in those 9 hours?

Not the solution because fighters will always still cut weight to the extreme to get the advantage.

the solution is random testing (just like USADA), any day of the year. If the fighter is 10 pounds over his fight limit, automatic move to the next weightclass.

I discussed this with John Kavanagh on Twitter, and that's the only solution really.

I see. Good point!
Do you not think adding more weight classes, in combination with your bolded point, would be the best solution then? Or do you think there are already enough weight classes and adding more devalues titles a little?
170-185 and then 185-205 are big gaps in weight. Many guys out there won't be natural at either.

Till is a joke. He's boasted in the past about how he can cut so Much weight and perform at a division he's too big for yet this happens.
He dwarfed Cowboy who was fighting at his natural weight, its stupidly unfair

LIVERPOOL, England – Darren Till has some concern he won’t be able to stay under 188 pounds for his second weigh-in Sunday ahead of his scheduled UFC Fight Night 130 main event against Stephen Thompson.

After missing weight by 3.5 pounds this morning, Till was fined 30 percent of his total purse. Also, he agreed to do a second weigh-in on the morning of his fight and can’t come in over 188 pounds. For one of the biggest welterweights in the world, that could prove to be problematic.

What an absolute tool.

To be honest this is dangerous for Till. He'll still be dehydrated a few hours before the fight. That can't be good for someone who is going to being getting punched in the face.

This weight cutting nonsense needs to be curbed and need to happens without someone inevitably dying first to force the change.

10lbs of replenshed water weight seems like plenty of hydration. He can obviously drink more after he makes the 1pm cutoff time.

I suppose, to be honest the fact that this is an issue in the lead up to a fight is crazy. Sometimes it's more about who can cut the more weight than who is the better fighter. Size gives a hell of an advantage when the talent level is even somewhat similar.

Not sure i want more weight classes to be honest. Maybe get rid of 170 and replace it with 165 and 175.

But like you say, it might devalue the current titles.

Some fighters totally take their foot off the gas and let themselves go inbetween fights. Ricky Hatton for example put on a massive amount of weight on so that 10lb descrepency thing wouldn’t really work in my opinion.

They would need to work out the optimum healthy fighting weight for the fighters and set like a limit to what that person can cut. Something does need to be done, even opening more weight divisions would help.

Isn’t MVP signed to David Hayes boxing promotion. I know he’s had 1 boxing fight and that was a while ago but maybe he has more freedom with Bellator to do the two of them.

Aye, good point. Bellator does seem to be far more flexible than UFC in allowing its fighters to compete elsewhere. Frank Mir is apparently fighting in another organisation (ACB or something?) before he takes another fight in Bellator.

What time is Till WB fight on at. A double would be nice. feck the Scouse!
