The MMA thread

217 is becoming more interesting by the day,.....

Good card..I'm away for it to, I had manufactured the holiday dates as well so I'd land back in the UK at 12:30am Sunday morning and get back just in time for UFC to start (she didn't know that part) but the flight got cancelled and now I'm coming back Sunday afternoon...have to try and avoid spoilers til then.

I love Mousasi.

Great interview, with this bit being a particular highlight:

The “Moose” said he wanted to be a great champion, of course, and at the time he already had Strikeforce’s light heavyweight belt in his possession. He wanted to make some money, too, and was already feeling underappreciated in pay. At some point, he wanted a wife — and not some willowy model type, but one with plenty of hillsides and curves.

But what he most wanted, more than anything, was a farm. A little plot of earth to cultivate in his native Holland. With chickens, cows, goats, dogs. Vegetables. A yard to mow. A place for his brother to call home. And his mother, whom he referred to as the “most important figure in the family.” Mousasi — the deadly assassin who upkicked Jacare Souza into oblivion and nearly tore Mark Hunt’s arm off — dreamed of was chewing a stem of grass on a lazy afternoon..........

Eight years later, he got himself that farm...

On sunny days, Mousasi says he likes to mow the grass. Gewik’s wife tends to the vegetables in the garden. Right now there are no animals because Gegard’s mom, “doesn’t like dog hair much.” The previous owner tried to include a flock of sheep with the purchase of the farm, but Mousasi reluctantly passed on the offer, because right now he’s still in the business of punching people for a living.

“I like animals,” he says. “The old owner had sheep that he wanted to give us, but I made the gym — so where the sheeps go, I made the gym. I train there, so I don’t have any space.”

 Hopefully he wins impressively tonight.

Chat a bit of shit to cowboy and he becomes completely beatable. The only person that plan didn't work for was Matt brown.

This guy breaks down fights with excellence.

Like him or loathe him, Till is the real deal, and is going to be a big problem in the WW division. His agility and explosiveness alone are going to be a huge obstacle, and then his size and power on top of ring smarts and actual ability... he's going to be one fighters are going to want to avoid until they have to fight him.

His voice... and his behaviour are hugely off-putting, but he is a genuine quality fighter and he's going to make waves in the UFC.

I think Till is just what the UFC needs right now. Looks like a solid contender to move up the ladder.

He does have a bit of the Tony Bellew's about himself Till which is a bit annoying but I don't dislike him like others seem to. Big victory for him though and it's good to see a British fighter and a young fighter coming up.

The thing is, he is really, really hungry, and angry by the sound of things. He's going to make an impression, fast, if he keeps on fighting like that, and one hopes he can mature in accordance with what will be an accelerated profile and exposure to the very top ranks of the division.

From the look of him, win or lose, he is going to be an absolute nightmare to beat. His stand-up is far, far beyond the generic UFC level and you can't live in Brazil studying BJJ and not be strong on the ground, so anyone that is to beat him is most likely going to be in an absolute war to do so.

Once his profile translates to hard cash and PPV sales, I can see the top fighters being prepared to fight him, but until then, he's literally not worth the risk. Dana's going to have fun finding opponents willing to take the fight who have a lot to lose beyond just the L in the octagon.

Darren Till looked legit in there Saturday. Anyone stepping in with Cerrone and getting the win deserve credit

great victory for Darren. Looks a very interesting fighter. Certainly has a lot of confidence in his ability, which is a great trait to have. Be interesting to see who they match him up with next. I like the fact he spent time in Brazil learning the sport. Seems like a very focused individual. Good to see genuine good prospects from anywhere in Britain and Ireland as it raises the profile. Great to see him showing such good takedown defense, the sport is evolving here all the time.

Now I remember him. I recall watching a UFC a couple of years ago in Brazil where a Scouser was speaking in Portuguese. Tried to find the fighters name but couldn't find it until I just learned it was Till. They love him down there in Brassssssil. ;)

That is one hell of an impressive debut

Thought he was just a striker and secounds before I reckoned that was the case as the choke was very available for him. But he went for it in the end

Whats the hype like for you all for next weeks card?

Jesus if that all stays together it’s going to be fecking brilliant. OSP on the fight pass prelims ffs

yeah pumped as feck for next week.

Specially for TJ hopefully getting his belt back.

vick/duffy, thompson/masvidal... fire.

Ill be a happy man if TJ, Bisping, Vick and Joanna win their fights.
