The MMA thread

feck me he hammered DC right into the ground. After a head kick. After about 3-4 elbows. And then 5 or 6 punches to the back of the head.

Jesus, do they really have to interview Cormier right now? Give him a few minutes ffs.

Rogan is the Piers Morgan of UFC. Sees a man crying and legs it over for a reaction.

God I hope Jones destroys Lesnar

Jon Jones is humble as feck there.

DC is completely devastated.

Jones just called Brock Lesnar out.

Dana White - "I hate interviewing fighters after they've been knocked out"

Yeah okay sure you do.

Amazing card tonight.

Jones, if he stays in division, needs to rematch with Gus. Oedzemir should get a crack at D.C.

Why the feck do you interview someone when they're in that condition? Seriously what will his wife/kids/family think seeing him cry hysterically on the TV after he got his ass kicked. Such a stupid interview.

That Oedzemir fell looks really good. Has fecking led in his gloves

That leg kick was a game changer, DC looked good up until that moment and you could argue that he was ahead but man one moment changes everything. I think DC though that kick was going to the body, he got caught big time.

Happy for Jones, thats a redemption story if theres ever been one, would be insane to see him fight Brock.

Rogan shouldn'thave went anywhere near DC after that. If you have a rule then you can't pick and choose what concussed fighter to interview, especially if Joe thought he might announce his retirement.
Also Bisping is full of salt in this post fight show.

What did that can't Bisping say?

He wasn't impressed with Jones and he looked like shit apart from the knockout.
The bias against Jon was clear as day even the commentary made you think that DC was clearly ahead based on striking despite being outstruck 3/1

That's the conflict of interest on the UFC part really.

The commentary was bias towards D.C. but then he is a co commentator on a lot of events with Rogan and Anik. He works with Cruz, Bisping, Florian etc on the fox stuff. Whilst they may not be best mates or anything DC seems a nice guy so they will all get on with him and will be bias towards him. It is quite annoying to listen to though.

Personally dunno what else for Jones to do a Gus rematch is somewhat interesting but I'd rather he move up to be honest. As for DC who knows? He could potentially retire or move up if Jones doesn't and Cain isn't fighting any time soon.

He basically gave Bisping the GSP fight at round 5 of the Woodley fight....says Bisping will fight, Woodley won't. Mad that he didn't finish Maia.

I fail to believe that's the reason. He must of watched that and thought Maia was mainly why he fight couldn't properly get going. I'm guessing he thinks Bisping is the easier match up and he wants another big star with a belt (he now has Conor and Jones) and found the perfect excuse to give GSP an easier fight. The guy is a compulsive liar and it makes it a shame there's no viable competition cos it's fecking guys like Woodley out of potential big pay days.

Woodley is his most active champion in a strong division and has been treated like a piece of shit there, whether people like the guy or not it's just a scummy thing to do.

Manuwa got wrecked.

Noticed the bias to DC in the presentation at every turn. Understandable given the reasons mentioned above. Likeable dude but Jones is a beast and although DC was clipping him with good shots, they were mainly at full range and seemed to have little-to-no effect whereas Jones' kicks and body work visibly did. Thought his reaction to kick DC's feet as he was tottering back was elite level work that got completely glossed over.

Props to Jones for the magnanimous interviews. Easy to do on the right side of the result and also easy to doubt the genuine nature of it all but good to see all the same.

Don't know if I heard Dana correctly but I think he said Woodley v Maia now holds the record for the least amount of punches thrown in a title fight.

Really good fight, I had DC possibly up two rounds. Had the second going to him and the first was very close. Would have been very interesting to see how that fight would have been scored had it gone the full five rounds. No clue where DC goes after this. He's 39 years old but obviously at the same time still performing at a ridiculously high level, but what's left for him now?

Woodley went in there and put on a great defensive performance. It's not pretty or entertaining and wasn't a good fight but sometimes you've got to appreciate the skills and performance. You've got to respect how dangerous Maia is if he get's you down and Woodley knew that.

And finally, get Cyborg a fecking good opponent now. Thankfully it seems Holm is next in line to fight her, much better matchup.

I get the idea Dana knows he hit his peak with Conor/Ronda.....which is partially why he's throwing Woodley under the bus, wants them all to slug it out now for cheap entertainment as you ain't going to make a Floyd-like superstar with defensive win with as little risk possible fighters in the UFC, since yeah, it's legit boring, and doesn't seem as genius as doing it in the sweet science.

Also explains the big push for a mismatch in Jones/Brock, like wtf. Brock to dive to try and make Jones the brand that all the shit stopped him getting too already.

If they want Woodley to 'fight' they should give him an opponent who isn't a specialist. It's really that simple. Woodley is doing the smart thing by his family, his health and from a purely logical standpoint: why should he put himself in jeopardy when he can win without having to do so? Give him some foolhardy 'lionhearts' and watch the K.O's and action go up.

Huge credit to Jones to come in after so long out of the octagon and win through stoppage. He saw his opening and took it. His boxing leaves a lot to be desired, and it's reason enough for him to not go up to HW. If a DC-sized fighter can walk him down, fighters a full 28lb heavier will take his best punches and smile. If he is to fight HW's, he needs to avoid the ones with good stand-up, along those lines, Lesnar is a good fighter to call out.

Are they actually going to give Cyborg some actual opponents now, or are they just going to keep feeding her tin cans?

The problem they've got with her is that there's no actual division for her. They're just scrambling around finding 135ers who are big enough to jump up a weight (I.e the Holm talk.) they need to build a division and get fighters in there instead of scrambling all the time.

To be fair, Evinger is the champ at Invicta and one of the few women who wanted to take the fight.

GDR refused, Holm just had a fight, Nunes didn't want to fight and their original opponent (Meghan Anderson) pulled out for personal reasons.

Not much else UFC could have done.

I don't quite get it's a mismatch though? Unless you mean in Jones favour? I don't see Jones struggling with him to much in all honesty the only thing Lesnar has over him is the weight difference Jones is a far better far more complete fighter.

Wow so Woodley was set to get the GSP fight (most likely at MSG) but because of the boring performance Dana has called it off. I bet Woodley regrets not going for the finish now.

A huge weight advantage. There are weight classes for a reason.

Yeah I appreciate that is the key advantage for Lesnar but other than that Jones is far ahead of him in pretty much the majority of aspects in MMA. I just can't see Lesnar doing much against him personally.

I'm not sure it'll ever be made. Lesnar still has 6 months of his ban to serve and he's already 40. Be fun to watch, though.

After Conor vs Floyd nothing surprises me anymore.

Equally it all seemed set up. It's been spoken about all week, Jones has his mic drop bit and for a man who's meant to be impossible to reach out and speak to Lesnar was quick to respond! Wouldn't surprise me if he entered the testing pool again in next few weeks and they fight in a big card early next year:
