The MMA thread

Decent card, don't like what happened in the Poirier fight though. Shambles.

Glad my boy Maia won, feared it would be a trap fight like Jacare recently.

JDS done at the absolute top level.

Interested to see where he goes from here. I think it's now all down to motivation and how much passion he has for fighting. If both of those are still there then I'm not convinced he's completely done at the top level. There's still only 3 fighters to ever beat him in the UFC. He's maybe not on the level he was a few years back but on his day I still feel he can beat almost any fighter in the HW division. That's the joy of the Heavyweight division really.

On the fight, he just needed to stay off of the cage. Obviously easier said than done but those leg kicks had Stipe in trouble. If JDS could have weathered the storm of the first round then we could have seen a different result. Hope JDS continues on. Five finishes in a row for Stipe now, dude is on an absolute tear. I actually love the Heavyweight division right now. You've got Stipe, Werdum, Hunt, Ngannou, JDS, Overeem, Lewis and even people like Arlovski and Browne lower down the ladder. Obviously Cain too when he can actually get himself healthy. I like where the divisions at right now.

On Joanna, a lot of fighters get praise for being incredible, this is one of those times when it's completely deserved. She's legit one of the best I've seen. She has almost everything to her game, ridiculous talent. I'm a huge Rose Namajunas fan, probably my favourite female fighter and I think she get's the next shot but I worry for her up against Joanna.

Really liked that card. Joanna is a joy to watch she's just another level to everybody else and it was good to see Stipe get the job done again.

Saw the Yair fight again... He got schooled... Was like seeing a rogue student get beat up by his PE teacher

I actually felt bad for Cody. I wouldn't marry a girl that thinks I'm a douche for being myself.

True! Although in fairness he was laughing along with her for it. It seems he's happy for the piss take cos Faber put something on Instagram before about it as well! His missus and his mentor giving him shit for it

Really enjoyed the card. Shame about the Alvarez vs. Poirier finish was a great fight until then. Fair play to Dustin for being good about it a lot of other people would be fuming. Hopefully the fight is made again.

Joanna is to good for everyone in her division, hopefully she moves up to that 125 division when it's made. Not really interested in her fighting anyone at 115 as she's beat all the best pretty easily.

Miocic is a beast as well absolutely dominated that fight I thought it'd be closer than that.

It's an mma podcast we listen to. Co-Main Event podcast, really good one as well. The two hosts are informative and really funny.

I been sending in questions as footballers for a while and only recently they've caught on to what I was doing
Ha ha

Nice

Never heard of the podcast before

So Cris Cyborg punched Angela Magana at the UFC retreat yesterday.

And Magana is pressing charges.

Magana has spent the last few months talking shit about Cyborg on social media. She got what he deserved.

Seems a bit childish for me to go round punching someone cos they called you names on the internet. Bit rich as well cos Cyborg spent years slagging off the likes of Rousey. I'm probably biased though cos I can't stand Cyborg and all her petty bullshit that she creates.

The UFC was always asking for troubler with stuff like this though. They've pissed off their fighters for the last few years and treat plenty of them like dirt there was always going to be some kind of comeback.

Japanese showing that they are crazy again:

How on Earth a 12 years old kid is allowed to fight on MMA against a 24 years old fighter? And as a side note, how did she managed to win this easily?

Romero v Whitaker at 213

Looks like Bisping wants nothing to do with Romero.
He has been saying his knee is struggling, and I think he really wants the GSP payday
Is the above an interim title fight, as if not, am sure it will be with the winner fighting Bisping later in the year (when he is fit)

Its all a bit confusing. Bisping was set to fight GSP until Dana came out and said GSP can't make it for some reasons. Bisping's own status has been somewhat mysterious based on other comments Dana made after the last UFC.

Would really love to see Ferguson vs Iaquinta after both their interviews on The MMA Hour. Both on a roll and both game as anything, would be an amazing fight.

Good Lord, the Stockholm card this weekend could be a low pull, I feel. Not many household names on there, although the main event is good and there are some fighters worth watching scattered throughout the card. Darren Till is on fightpass I think, also with Marcin Held featuring there.

Hopefully Gus can pick up the win and I expect him to do so. The Mauler

The only guy I'm interested in watching this sunday is the future champ Misha Cirkunov. Expect him to finish Oezdemir, taking his UFC record to 5-0 (only finishes), making his case for a title shot.

Got a feeling he wont the next shot though... I think they will make him fight Shogun Rua or maybe Gustafsson if he wins too.

I was glad Cirkunov got his contract sorted, for a brief moment it seemed like they were going to let him walk. He should deal with Oezdemir, who is surely the most peculiar top-5 ranked fighter of all time.

It's crazy that Shogun is still being talked about in 2017. Outside the top 3/4 guys there is such a huge gulf and lack of fighters in the division.

hahah Shogun Rua is on a 3 fight winning streak! His best record in over 10 years! haha crazy

he still is a old school big name so i expect Dana fecking White to milk him as much as possible.

I wouldn't be surprised if later this year we get Jones vs Rua II

I suppose that's true. Mercifully, he's managed to string a few together. I was genuinely concerned at one point that the UFC were going to match him up with Rumble.

Thankfully, that ship has sailed and AJ has bigger fish to fry these days :smirk:

Did they say why Darren Till was out so long?

As for as I was aware he was not injured

His last fight I attended, in Dublin 2015
