The MMA thread

Sounds more serious than not making the weight?

FFS Was looking forward to this fight
That and Woodley-Wonderboy had it set up as a really good card

Khabib was definitely shitting himself. Maybe his father not being with him affected too much.

what a fecking shame to miss El Cucuy in action.

Maybe he was feeling unwell, which is why he ended up in hospital. Khabib turned down much easier fights to take on Tony.

His father isn't always there for every fight.

Gutted the Ferguson Khabib fight is off. Heard a few rumours he was cutting as much as 30-35 lbs this week for the fight. I think thats way too much weight to be losing in such a short time though dehydration. Hopefully he's alright but when he comes back he should probably think about moving up to welterweight.

Always the worst when a fight gets cancelled due to a weight problem. We've had all the build up, the MMA Hour interviews, the Countdown show, Embedded episodes, scrums, open workouts and we are just so eager and excited to watch the fight. What a let down, this card's been demoted from being one of the best cards of the year to just an average one now.

Yup, I think it's the first time a huge fight has ever been cancelled

It would be great if it was the first time. Sadly, it's happening more than it should and is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of the calamitous and shambolic way the UFC is being run

And I always say, it's always been like this

I think it was 2014 when it seemed like every big fight was cancelled and every event chopped and changed. We even had a Ppv cancelled altogether

The Fertitas were no better.

FFS I knew something was wrong when I opened this thread and it had 2 pages extra :(

Any word on the official reason? Did he just miss weight or something more serious?

I didn't say they were better - I said they sold at the right time. They are losing their stars and are reaching a PPV ceiling in terms of how much money they can bring in. IMG will now do the rest to ruin the UFC by going Hollywood and clutching at straws for viewership with bizarre fights like Bisping v GSP.

his body gave up on him while cutting and had to be taken to the hospital. Some rumours saying he was cutting like 30 pounds. fat bastard...

Looking forward to Vannata vs Teymur now as my top fight of the night now. Gonna be fireworks.(trying to be positive here...)

ps. at the weigh-ins, poor Tyron begging for the people to buy PPV... he was looking almost desperate. So unlucky.

Then el Cucuy showed up also to spread some love and also asking the fans to buy the PPV.

feck this gay earth. Khabib vs Tony was my most anticipated fight. God the UFC has had an absolute shitter of a time recently.

Also why has AKA not been banned yet? All of their big 4: Cain, DC, Rockhold and Khabib pulled out of their last fights. ALL OF THEM. They clearly are not doing things correctly and the UFC should intervene as it has been like this for ages.

Is this tonight, or tomorrow night?
Says sunday on ufc.com, but someone on here said it was tonight?

If it is on now, can someone pm me a river, if possible?
Ace is ok ;)

gay Jesus would be proud

Damn you Khalabib.....still some great fights, but it's hard not to notice that they seem to be stuck in the mud at the moment.

Conor can cure your ills. Every passing event is just adding more money to his next paycheck....could also be the key to getting the Diaz brothers back in play.

Conor vs the winner of Twood/Wonderboy? win or loose, fight Nate next to complete the trilogy. Then fight Bisping or GSP.

Personally i would hate it, but it make sense from the $$$ point of view.

We have been saying it for so long now about AKA

Their record is terrible. They have 4 of the very best in different divisions and they all fight so seldom

I think it's a bit sudden to say the Fertitta's sold it at the right time etc. I'd agree the UFC is going through a tough patch and WME need to improve certain aspects of the sport but the UFC is still young in their ownership and they do need time to implement a plan. It is desperately lacking star power. They've got Conor, GSP back for now, Jones back soon and that's it. They clearly invested in Khabib in the build up to this fight he was the focus on every Embedded etc but he's let them down with not making weight.

I will say it's odd how more isn't being made of Khabib not making weight, seems people are looking to blame anything else or look to criticise other things. I'd imagine if this was Ferguson missing weight the reaction would be completely different.

It's simple, Khabib was the great white hope to expose Conor. Ferguson will have a lot more fans now seeing as he's the one they are counting on now.

Are you kidding me? Most people are fuming that he's allowed himself to get into such a state that he's unable to make weight.

Absolute Muppet if you ask me. I wouldn't be averse to seeing him ditched for such blatant disrespect and lack of professionalism either. Same thing happened to others in the past.

They're not really though. Read through this thread and there's not much criticism of the fighter himself it's more the circumstances the fight was of and criticism of the UFC for the fight not happening. Even other sources are criticising weight cut itself rather than the fighter for missing the fight.

I'd suggest this is right:

Even before McGregor vs. Alvarez people had Khabib as the man to beat McGregor and then the minute McGregor beat Alvarez there was plenty of people saying he had to fight Khabib next.

The reality is McGregor was right what he said the guy in unreliable to build a big fight round, he's injured or can't make weight it seems. He was saying this is the biggest LW fight ever and then he doesn't make the weight it's hugely unprofessional.

Again if it was Ferguson or another fighter then I reckon the comments would be far more negative of the fighter than the UFC or the weight cutting etc. It is extreme the weight cuts but they're still athletes and Khabib has t o take the blame. He should be nowhere near a title shot at the moment because of this and his injury past.

Bisping/GSP press conference is hilarious as well. I like GSP but do hope Bisping wins.

Across all fighting sports - needs to be greater checking of weight in lead-up, principally to stop this extreme cutting they go through

As someone who wasn't around during GSP's first stint in the UFC: wouldn't he make more chance when fighting in his original division (welterweight) instead of in a division higher against stronger and bigger fighters? Or has he become too big to make the cut to welterweight?

I'd imagine he would've gone for a WW fight against Conor if possible.

Ferguson is very popular amongst the folk on here so I don't think that's the best example and I've not seen anyone defending Khabib here for missing weight and having to pull out. Just that the people around him and his team need to take a hard look at themselves as this is happening again and again at that camp.
