The MMA thread

So what is the story with the Irish fellow fighting tomorrow night?

Apparently loads of Irish fans have been slagging off Brimmage on his face book page, which is pretty funny.

 Little did we know eh?

Just had an enjoyable read through all of McGregor's fights on here. Constant doubting throughout, it's rather glorious.

yup his rise to fame was incredible

To think I knew who Marcus Brimmage was but not Conor McGregor :o

Really solid card! Choi Swanson should be a cracker. Really looking to Holloway Pettis. Pulling for Max as he's been overdue the title shot for a while now.

Krylov vs Cirkunov to put a great end to the prelims. Really pumped for that one. (going with Cirkunov and his better ground game)

Also quite curious to see Vannata in his second fight. Obviously left a good impression on his debut.

PS. Totally forgot tomorrow we have fights too...

Joe Silva

Dana has confirmed McGregor will be joining the new season of Game of Thrones. I have never watched it but may need to start. Shame he is taking time away from MMA though

Jose's still not happy, to be honest at this stage he's coming across as very bitter and obsessed. I wish he would just put the McGregor fight behind him and concentrate on re-establishing himself as the top dog in the FW division again. Aldo's a great fighter and one of the best of all time one loss won't change that. He should just make peace with the fact he won't be fighting Conor any time soon and move on, theres a few great potential fights with Pettis and Holloway next year.

“I knew I would be the champion and he knows what happened to me in that fight will never happen again,” Aldo said. “It was known I would be champion again so I don’t have a problem with the way it happened. I’ve always said that having the belt around my waist is all that matters. No matter what, I’m the champion. I don’t care about what his coach says. Who is his coach anyway? I don’t know who he is. Or him. They’re all pieces of sh*t.”

What the actual feck . Probably got a job as a wildling or something.

Also, you are missing out.

Ffs!

This means no interim belt for him if he wins.

What about Max? Same thing?

I'd guess so. This card is a bit cursed. Stripped Conor of the belt to make this an interim fight to probably sell a couple more PPVs and now it's potentially back to just being a normal fight.

Just read a tweet from Helwani that said the Ontario Commision had confirmed that Meek will have to trim his beard if he wants to fight...
What kind of bs is this?
What about Nelson, or the other bearded fighters?
Never heard anything like this before.

I'm happy with that.

I think commissions have zero say in the awarding of belts in MMA. Dana could hand the FW belt to Brock if he wanted

Pettis had a nutritionist live in with him for the six week camp, he is claiming a health issue on the missed weight.....anybody know if there is any truth to this or should he be looking for a refund?

when asked about it at the weigh ins, he was pretty pissed...

I'm pretty sure he feck it up... In the embedded videos, you can see him going to a steakhouse... they even gave him a knife with his name engraved on it.

I noticed at the face off of the media day he was looking already pissed and bloated... compared to Max.

Ah, cheers for the info @George Owen.
Last thing this card needed really. Dana didn't seem bothered, cashing out/McGregor rise might have killed his drive.

So it's a fight for an interim title that only one of the fighters can win, in a division that only last week had a different interim champion and full champion.

Bit of a farce really they should have just scrapped the idea completely, it's basically just a no1 contenders match. The belt is meaningless.

Andrew Sanchez (TUF 23 winner) with his first UFC fight post tuf next.

edit. good victory for "El Dirty" Sanchez... nothing spectacular but getting there.

haha The Black Beast

2 shit fights in a row but now has the longest HW winning streak.

Hopefully he gets a ranked opponent next.

I think he will, he's fought Nelson in his last fight before last night and they seem to be hyping him up somewhat.

Agreed 2 terrible fights though.

"That was some bullshit...I'm gonna sit my ass down"

He's not wrong but I feel a bit sorry for Lewis. Hard to look good against a spoiler like that.

He needs to adapt, he's so 1 dimensional and looked terrible in his last 2 fights. His opponents will just work him out and use that game plan against him. I don't think he's that good really, he's basically just a character so has got himself in a position of having a following. He has some good knockouts don't get me wrong but I think hell soon get worked out by a decent opponent. There's only so many times he can blame his opponents for his fight being shit.

Ngannou is much better. It seems they were going to make that fight, recently they've fought on the same cards or within a week or 2 of each other. I don't think that goes well for Lewis and the UFC may want to protect him against fighters like that.

Aye, I agree. He's likeable so I'd like to see him work his way up the rankings but his ceiling is quite low.

Anyone watching Glory Collision? the prelims were free on UFC fight pass so i gave it a go and it was good fun. Watched only the last 2 fights and they were awesome to be honest. Non stop action.

the last one went to decision after 3 rounds after they beat the crap of each other, great fight, 2 knock-downs each.

The announcer goes and read the scores (they have a lot of judges, 7?) "Majority draw"!

i thought it ended but the guy says "Buuuuut!!! according to Glory rules we go to a 4th and final round!"

fecking awesome ... and the last round was so close too, until the last second, when one of the guys got a massive knockdown.

Anyway, they were promoting this fight that headlines the main event later... they were calling it the biggest fight in kick boxing history.

Is that accurate? I never watch kick boxing but i might try to catch that fight if its gonna be this good.

ps. 2 hours 45 minutes to the UFC 206 early prelims.

Badr Hari vs Verhoeven? That on now?
Seen the promos earlier this week, both looked in great shape at the weight-ins.

Ngannou v Black Beast would be good.

I was thinking the same last night, but they didn't called each other so i guess they both want to fight a ranked opponent. Make sense too as they have little to win and a lot to loose facing each other. They will fight eventually i hope, should be a good one.

Ngannou vs Hunt could be good too. I can see him being the only one answering the call. Arlovski and Browne probably prefer to fight each other before Ngannou.

The Black Beast could land Barnett or Rothwell maybe?

That was such an anti-climax. Rico looked hyped as feck btw, one could almost describe it as shaking.
