The MMA thread

I dint know of anyone who takes Clomid on cycle. Clomid is used instead of Test as a montherapy for TRT. But I've never come across anyone using a Clomid while doing a Test cycle.

Check this out. Look at the half lives of all the different steroids and compare them to Clomid.

I take Clomid and HCG with my Test on my TRT program. Works great. There's a lot of debate about whether to take HCG on cycle or PST - I think on and off cycle is appropriate since on cycle it magnifies the heightening of Test levels and off cycle it prevents Test levels from crashing. Clomid on the other hand is a fertility drug that kick starts spermatogenesis by raising FSH levels to offset a lack of natural production. Back to the original point - Jones was probably Clomid and the AI to prevent his Test levels from dropping close to the fight, which could've been disastrous in terms of his performance. He took a chance and got caught.

No I get it, but it doesn't make sense. Why use Clomid to stop his test dropping rather than stay on Test or use another sreroid?

He'd have to take Clomid every day or every other day and it had a half life of around a week. So it makes zero sense to use it stop his test levels dropping, when he can use something that will be out of his system in a day or 2.

Do you see my point? Using an easily detectable, illegal substance, that stays in your system for around a week, that needs to be taken for an extended period of time, is a bit mental, when there are steroids that can keep your Test levels high, but are out of the system much quicker, meaning the window of opportunity for the testers to catch you is less.

Why would anyone PCT coming up for a fight? As I said, I don't remember anyone (other than Chael) being caught with a SERM before and I think the reason is it makes no sense to take them.

Probably because staying on Test wouldn't accomplish what the other two drugs do - namely behave as an Aramotase Inhibitor to keep a lid on his estrogen levels. If he took a short ester Test product, his levels would've still remained too high to A: avoid detection and B: avoid aromatization.

An AI like Letrozole makes sense. It's the clomid that doesn't. Letrozole can be out of the system in 48 hours. As Aldo proved, it's easy to avoid being tested for a day or 2. But taking something that is in your system for around a week and needs to be taken over a period of time makes no sense.

We have to keep in mind you don't even need to start your PCT for 2 weeks after you come off. And we know he passed PED tests in the months before he failed. Which suggests it's easier to pass a test with short half life roids than it is with Clomid. It's just a really bizarre drug to be caught taking, which is why I don't think it's happened before other than with Chael, who should have been taking it and shouldn't have been punished for it.

Chad Mendes banned for 2 years. Career effectively over. Wont be able to fight until he is 33 now.

Yeah can't see him coming back from this, lost 3 of his last 4 (last 2 were knockouts as well) and 2 years out in what could be the peak of his career. Shame really but then only got himself to blame.

Looking forward to UFC 201 featuring Robbie Lawler shadowboxing in a mirrored room as everyone else is suspended.

Yep, unlike many others who can last well into their late 30s, Mendes doesn't have the body type and cardio skills to stay afloat with new, younger fighters constantly coming up to challenge. I'd say he's more or less done, or if he does manage to come back, he'll be mid table at best.

Maybe try drop a division? He has always been to much muscle vs body size. At 33 he would still be young enough.

fecking asshole though... 2 years. The pressure to get a win on his next fight was too much for him to handle cleanly.

He'll definitely be back. Even if he isn't the same fighter he can't walk away from the sort of money. He made $680,000 just to "show" in his last year of fighting. It's not enough to retire on and it's too much to go looking for another line of work. Even if he just earned a $200,000 a year from a come back, it's more than he'd get as a coach or whatever.

The Clomid also makes sense to me as his testicles probably stopped producing sperm, which the Clomid blocks. Most people, whether on or off cycle don't want sperm production to stop for obvious reasons, even if they have a fight coming up.

Yeh definitely. I just meant as a contender really. 2 years out of the rest of your prome years is damaging to any pro athlete.

Chad Chad Chad... what a shame... just as I was warming up to him...

So Mark Hunt still wants all the Lesnar purse and now is trying to start a fighters union. UFC will have to put out this fire asap or they could be in trouble.

Oh and Aldo admits he had a spy in Frankie's training room and has also said he usually has spies on his opponents. Why would you admit that? The man's a complete fool. I actually want McGregor to spark his lights out again.

In fairness he was joking when he said it. It's a bit of a piss take on McGregor who said the same thing (and again who was joking when he said it.) His whole comment was something about he had spies to tell him if he tried kicking Edgar he'd try and take him down, it's obvious Edgar would of done that. I think half the stuff Aldo says just gets lost in translation, the same thing happened after the McGregor fight, in fact I'm pretty sure then the translator just started making stuff up!

Ahh fair enough. I just read the article on MMAFighting and the response from Mark Henry.

Yeah I think Edgar replied on Instagram with another joke about it so I don't think they're being serious.

I do feel a bit sorry for Aldo when he says stuff as I said with the McGregor stuff it all seemed to get mistranslated, must be hugely frustrating for the guy.

Pretty psyched about this. Hope Holly gets back on track for a title shot after this weekend.

Yeah it's an interesting fight. She said herself the other day it's probably one of the biggest pressure fights she's had. If she wins she's back in the title shot. If she loses it's probably all over and she'll just be classed as a 1 hit wonder.

Ngannou has to be ranked after this. He looks like he could beat anyone in the bottom part of the division.

Those leg kicks...
Anybody else getting sick of Rogan etc calling every UFC fighter gods gift to mma?
They may be world class but they're in the one organisation. The standard for these statements should be raised to where a fighter's attributes may be ridiculous v the rest of the world, it would be closer to average against other world class athletes that they compete against.
Rogan's little build up pieces lose all credibility when he praises every single fighter he talks about like this. It's the same problem that he carries over to his podcast as well.
Everybody is some kind of beast. It's tiresome at this stage.

Rogan can be insufferable when he gets obsessed with a certain aspects of fighter tactics.

That was fecking disgraceful from Holm. Completely out maneuvered by a fighter who did to Holm, what Holm did to Rousey with the counters.

Shevchenko is a great fighter. Holm has only looked good against Ronda, she's been shit tl mediocre in every other appearance. Holm has very specific skills that favour her in some match ups, but otherwise she's pretty mediocre. I still think she could probably outpoint Nunes by keeping away in the first few rounds and tiring her out. We also saw against Ronda that she could play the Matador role with Ronda running at her like a crazed bull with no fight intelligence.

Valentina is a genuinely great fighter as is Amanda Nunes these days. I don't see anyone really challenging the two of them in that division (unlikely Holly works her way to a title shot against Nunes). The impressive thing with Valentina is that she is really fighting up from her natural weight class. She'd be in 125 if they make it. Maybe fight Joanna for the inaugural title. That would be fun.

Ronda won't be coming back to fight either of them I don't think. If she comes back it will more likely be a one off against Holm. It will sell more and is an easier fight if she has a better gameplan.
