The MMA thread

I genuinely don't think silva wants to win and be the champion anymore. He would rather lose and entertain, be the "people's champion" but not have the hard work involved of being a champion.

In his eyes he won the fight and entertained, that's all he cares about.

UFC won't drop him either as he still draws big numbers, and while he still pulls out the kicks and cool knees people will still watch him.

that's bullshit. If the chance to be champion arise, he would obviously embrace it alongside all the benefits that comes with the title $$.

I believe he did wanted to win this fight and i believe he genuinely thinks he won the fight. I mean, if Cruz got the decision vs Dillashaw without even doing any serious damage, imagine how Silva must have felt after reconfiguring Bisping's face. Clear victory for sure.

I was worried he was gonna get the decision, but i'm glad the judges got it right this time.

That's your opinion sure, but after he lost to weidman he did say he was "fed up of being champion". He didn't like the constant media pressure and felt it was effecting his family life. I thought it was an excuse but if he REALLY had the hunger to be champion again he would have finished Bisping.

Thought Silva looked quite good. Let's not forget he's 40 years old and has had two fights in two years and that's coming off the back of a horrendous leg breaker. He's still only lost three fights in the UFC and two of those were against Weidman (one with Silva clowning around and the other being the leg breaker). Discussion of him being dropped is just silly and not even worth going into, will be interesting to see where he decides to go from here.

Bisping fought brilliantly. IMO it showed that he's been craving for this fight for 7 or so years, almost as big as a title fight for him. Just like Silva I'm interested to see what's next for Bisping. Won't be a title shot. A bit of back and fourth between him and Diaz on twitter, I'd be up for that fight although expect Bisping will aim for something else to potentially get him in contention for a title shot.

Bisping v Diaz would be great. Bisping is quite a bit bigger but both have cardio for days. Make it a 5 rounder and we'd see something pretty tasty I reckon.

Why didn't Silva finish him and how the hell did Bisbing continue!

Touché Bisping. Taking those shots and still winning.

Anderson always has excuses made for him. I remember after the first Chael fight everyone claimed that it was so one sided due to a hip injury. But then in the second fight the exact same thing happened, until Anderson resorted to blatant cheating to stop Chael taking him down in the second round. The when Wiedman did the same to him that Chael did, only with more vicious ground and pound, Anderson started "clowning." He has this habit of "clowning" when he's getting beaten and it's somehow seen as the reason for him getting beaten, rather than a sign he's being out fought.

Anderson is a slime ball, but his fans are blind to it. He's seen as some humble warrior, but he's cheat. He definitely tried to get the fight stopped on Saturday, as he couldn't handle the pace. I didn't see much "clowning" in the first couple of rounds, when Bisping was simply outworking him an at points giving him a good beating. In fact he was probably losing the 3rd round until the knee, which wasn't exactly the result of him being a great fighter, but more Bisping being a great idiot. He blatantly tried to get the fight stopped after the 3rd, despite it being made very clear to him he wasn't over. He'd had enough. He threw 60% less than the last time he fought, when he got caught on steroids. Yet somehow his fans think he lost out of choice.

Bisping is a veteran and should know better than he did in that third round... 3 seconds earlier and he would have lost. Having said that, Silva is done in my opinion. He will be a gate keeper at best. He didn't take the fight seriously and is a disgrace to fight fans around the world.

That's a nice gesture but how come he didn't offer the guy tickets?

I'm fairly sure he didn't else it'd have been caught on camera, surely?

Probably forgot to. Or wasn't allowed.

Can't blame him for not offering tickets. The guy looks like a huge fan...if he is that into McGregor to have a cut out of him on his balcony then I'm sure he goes to the fights anyway...

Sorry last one of the day:

The more funny shit like this I see, the more I start to like this guy

Nice of John Connor to take time out of leading the resistance and fighting Skynet to come and train Mcgregor.

What time is UFC 196?
Is it Sunday or Monday morning here in Europe?
I always get confuzzled in my little brains!
Need to plan which day i go extra early to bed :p

starts Sunday 3AM

Is that the main card, or prelims?
I'm relatively new to MMA, so i'd like to watch as much as possible.

Fighting sports have been illegal in Norway until last year, so we haven't been able to watch it legally before.
Which sucks, since we have the best female boxer, Holly Holm didn't dare to fight her, and she's never been able to fight in her own country!
Or even be seen live in her own country.

You should confirm that info with someone who actually lives in europe, just in case.

ps. this is actually a good example of a benefit of having a universal time. Keep the local times as usual, but run a parallel universal time that only would be used for PPV promotions for example, sporting agendas by sports channels...

That was an intense face off. Nate getting a bit inside Conor's head there or what?

Gonna be interesting to see how Conor will deal with the reach disadvantage. Tough fight, but if he wants to go after Lawler next, a good performance would be great for his confidence going for the title. (its not like he lacks confidence... but still)

I usually pick my female fighter from the hotness so i have to go with Miesha. being knocked unconscious by a head kick

Enjoyed that press conference, was a good watch. The face off is hilarious, Conor winding Nate up.

I think what's getting to Conor is that Nate is too stupid to understand metal warfare so it just doesn't work on him. I hope it doesn't end in submission because I'm dying to see Conor stand up and fight, he looks a different beast in the space of a year.

Yepp. Mind you, Nate was upset at Conor taking digs about him doing seminars for kids.

Mcgregor was the one who took a swipe at Nate in the face off. Don't know if he's just trying to make the show even bigger or he was genuinely annoyed about Nate mocking the people he trains with. May be the first time Mcgregor is the one who's been riled up by an opponent's words?

Ya that seemed to annoy him but I don't understand why, it wouldn't bother me in the slightest who I trained with once I kept winning. Besides, that guy he was making fun of with the pony tail trains Mcgregor in movement which is what makes him deadlier than most fighters, I don't see what's wrong with that.
