The MMA thread

Fight of his life from Bisping imo. What a fight that was though. Very entertaining.

1 minute of activity shouldn't win rounds. And the flying knee was suspect. Glad Bisping got the nod.

I'm pleased for him

Anderson at times looked back to his best, I can't help but feel if he had really gone for it he would have finished him

Can't say I have much sympathy for Anderson. He privileges entertainment over winning the fight on points. He could've been far more attacking but opted to relax against the cage with his idiotic Filipino boxing techniques.

The beauty of Anderson Silva really... I feel he could have ended Bisping - or pushed more - in the final round, but for some reason decided not to. He didn't fight like he wanted a title shot.

They should give Bisping his shot. Middleweight hasn't got much else going on right now. Why not do the company man a favour and give him his shot finally?

That fight sort of sums up Silva in his later years. In his earlier fights he tempered the showboating with an absolute ruthless finishing ability. He's not the same any more sadly but Christ he's older than me and fighting is a young man's game.

The guy I saw at Cage Rage beating Lee Murray would've murdered Bisping tonight.

Proper legend though. Respect.

Agreed

He deserves it

Aren't Rockhold and Weidman going again in May? Bisping should wait it out now

But jacare may have something to say about that

Anderson did that damage in a few shots, the biggest being the knee, and it begs the question why he can't seem to be arsed putting a round together rather than the random isolated moments he produces. He clearly had the skill to dispatch Bisping but spent most of his time dancing around.
Bisping deserved it, and I say that despite fervently disliking the chap, and it may have been more convincing if he hadn't taken his eye off the ball at the end of the third.

Doesn't matter now anyway, but thought there was nothing wrong with Silva's Matrix-knee. From what I know, there's no way Herb Dean could have stopped the fight to allow Bisping to recover his mouth guard, as Silva was pressing and that would have impeded the flow of the fight.

Yeah, Bisping was too concerned with the mouthpiece and trying to ref it. Cant take your eyes of an opponent in the cage. Almost cost him.

I think Andersons style even confuses the audience. He's tired a lot of the time in my opinion. At the end of the third does anyone really believe he thought the fight was over? I thought for a second he was going to refuse to fight on. He was clearly being told it wasn't over, well before he jumped on the fence. In the replay we even hear the horn sound just after Bisping goes down. I find it very difficult to believe Anderson thought the fight was over. His fans will try and claim otherwise and say he can't speak English or the arena was very loud etc, but I don't buy it for a second.

There's definitely something wrong with his head. Its like he doesn't understand that winning is the goal.

What Silva really said post-fight:
"Brazil, here's the thing. You can't win in one way, they try to take it from you in another way. You saw how it went, right, so I have nothing to say. I fought for you and that's it.

Guys, thank you for the suport, my family, I'm coming back home now, I'm fine and that's it, Mission accomplished, mission given, but sometimes it's just like Brazil, total corruption."

Yeah, Anderson jumping on the fence and celebrating confused me more than Bisping stopping for his mouthpiece, really bizarre antics.
He's looked increasingly lazy in his fights over the last five years (the Maia fight was awful for that) so I can only assume it is a cardio thing or he genuinely thinks that one of his matrix shots counts for ten of his opponents.

But why give him the benefit of the doubt. Chael was right about Anderson, but fans wont accept it. I used to love the guy, but I see him as slimey now and am really fed up with people defending him (I'm not saying you are per se.)

He'd lost the first 2 rounds, because Bisping controlled the fight. He was losing the 3rd round and only won it because of the knee to the head when Bisping wasn't even looking. Silva saw that as a get out of jail card. I'm certain he was trying to get the fight finished by celebrating etc. No one can deny it was made perfectly clear to him, good English or not, that the fight wasn't over. Yet he tried to get it called off. He then lost the 4th round as he did the first 2 and was losing the 3rd. Yet most fans seem convinced he could have won if he wanted. If that's true, why did it take Bisping to act like an idiot at the end of the 3rd for Silva to get a foothold? Why did Silva try and get the fight stopped and he really did?

MMA is so dumb. A guy takes immense damage, 10-9. A meh round where no one does shit, the same 10-9 for Bisping. They should change that..

They should change a lot of things while they're at it too. The one you mentioned is far behind the obscene favouring toward takedowns. Fighters can get lit up for 4 minutes 30 of a round but land a takedown and are given it. It's crazy.

You have a point in general but I don't think it goes fully towards describing tonight's fight.

Guy largely controls the round and gets caught with a flurry in the last 20 seconds, loses 10-9.
Seems fair enough to me because Bisping was likely taking the round before that late action and a three point swing would be unfair.
10-8 would mean a dominant round, something Silva seems largely incapable and/or uninterested in.

Bisping speaking live at the post fight presser now...

I meant the round with the crane kick to the head that rocked Bisping. Its the same 10-9 as a round that both fighters do nothing. That doesn't make sense to me.

I would actually consider dropping Anderson for his antics. Dana already threatened to do so a couple of fights before he faced Weidman, for his showboating. Anderson is 40 and is quickly approaching Dan Henderson territory.

Agree. I thought that the fight was up for grabs for Anderson. Look at that kick to the face he gave Bispin. He just stood there afterwards instead of pouncing.

No way he'll be dropped right away. He'll quit on his own terms. Dana is only talking him up, he knows he's good TV.

Silva knows the shit scoring system, so shouldn't throw away rounds like he does, a loss like this has been waiting for him for years.....and I doubt he cares, since he comes out of it with the highlight moments more or less and he's on his retirement tour at this point anyway.

Great heart from Bisping to pull out a nice win. A big one for him, and should get another nice payday from the next fight.

 oh please.. your boy will get shred to bits by Dos Anjos. He's a different kind of beast.

Saying that, I thought the same in his fight against Aldo. :nervous:
Never bet against Mcgregor.

Still hard to believe how bizarre the fight was. Anderson is so frustrating in that he could've obliterated Bisping if he decided to fight rather than entertain.

I genuinely don't think silva wants to win and be the champion anymore. He would rather lose and entertain, be the "people's champion" but not have the hard work involved of being a champion.

In his eyes he won the fight and entertained, that's all he cares about.

UFC won't drop him either as he still draws big numbers, and while he still pulls out the kicks and cool knees people will still watch him.

Just caught up. Looked like Mousasi never really got out of third gear during the match. A pretty casual and dominant victory, but not exactly one that makes him stand out in his crowded weight class.

Had the descicion for Bisping, beyond stoked he got the win. Great match as well!
