fecking bullshit, our entire country was itching for this fight!

Surely there'll be a queue forming to fight Mcgregor due to the easy pay day regardless of result but it won't be a title fight.. another interm belt? fecking Brazilians and their injuries

Cowboy was also clobbered by RdS in December so it would be 3 fights in 11 weeks. Khabib makes more sense, has already beaten RdS and hasn't fought in nearly a year.
doesnt matter what makes sense.

It depends on the fighter and which fighters will jump at a chance like this (or any chance to fight)

Cerrone will jump at this

Khabib hasnt fought in two years and will not

May 7th in Holland. I cant go because its my wedding anniversary :(

I am still considering going but can't find anything on the card yet, or ticket prices for that matter. Any thoughts on both?

I would be seriously shocked if Aldo would take the fight on short notice

Yeah me too. This is shite news, I expect them to push it through to UFC 200.

I think the only other fight announced for it is Bigfoot vs Struve.

It would be daft and certainly not something many want to see after already having seen him. If he's the leading option then it would make more sense for Conor to wait until a future card.

that'd be a fast turnaround even if he gets in and out, no ?

though I suppose, take 2 weeks off then back into camp

No fighter would turn down such a fight, but the problem is Cerrone is already over marketed and wouldn't make for an interesting matchup with McGregor. Conversely if Conor were to somehow lose to him, Dana and Lorenzo would be kicking each other at having squandered Conor's winning run for a fight that didn't even need to happen.

I'd like to see that too but I doubt the UFC would jeopardise a title match at 200 by putting him against someone who might beat him.

What is it that the UFC have done so far that makes everyone suggest they're protecting Mcgregor? He thinks he can beat anyone and he gets to fight whoever he wants, they gave him "his worst match up" for 189 on 2 weeks notice and he was facing his toughest possible fight in Dos Anjos when there were plenty of other options.

Its obvious he is their cash cow and him losing in some incidental replacement fight wouldn't be in anyones best interests and it would surely scupper future fights if Conor has to work his way up again.

What should they have done when Aldo pulled out of 189?

I don't think they're protecting him as much as protecting their interests. That champion vs champion fight is too big to risk it imo. They'll bump it to 200 unless McGregor insists on fighting.

I think he will, people have already bought their tickets to see him.

Is this not going to be an interim belt fight?

Champ v Champ is what they want as it will yield the most PPV money. Champ v some random contender and the knock on effects of (if by the off chance) McGregor were to lose would result in a massive disruption of title fights they are planning. IMO McGregor could fight (i would want him to for selfish reasons) but it should be a top contender/champ/former champ like Aldo, Pettis, or an undefeated guy like Khabib. (Edgar apparently

Well at the time, Conor was a big draw but now he is carrying the burden of the numbers even more, especially since Ronda lost and won't be fighting for a while. At the time he fought Mendes, there was also less at stake. He didn't have a title, didn't have a big name victory etc. Now he is much more lucrative to protect.

I dont think the UFC are protecting him from a hard fight because we all know Conor would fight Jesus if he had to. They are protecting themselves from a needless fight that can do them more harm than good.

Conor has a loyal following who will watch regardless of his opponent, just look at the Siver numbers. So it would make more sense on this occasion to let a Diego Sanchez fight Conor ahead of someone like Ferguson. This will heighten his chances of victory and allow them to book in the RDA fight at 200. Would make business sense.

no chance

An Interim belt is only made when a champion hasnt fought for a year or more

That would be ridiculous imo. you could make a case for it with Aldo but Dos Anjos only fought 2 months ago.

Fair enough, wasn't sure whether there was a set time frame on defending belts, or the UFC just pick and choose what suits them.

Can anyone realistically see Mcgregor defending his featherweight belt? It'll be a long wait before we see it if he does, and if he struggles making the weight usually, he'll find it even harder after 6 months+ fighting in heavier classes.

No chance of that either unfortunately. The weight cut nearly kills him as it is and he looks huge at the moment.

Added to which the #1 contender (Edgar) is also injured.

I'm really struggling to think of a viable opponent tbh. Cowboy just fought at ww so is probably too big and Diaz probably wouldn't pass a drug test on 11 days notice.

Slightly off topic but I was listening to Matt Brown's podcast yesterday and they were discussing Ronda's comments about suicide and how she looked over at Travis Browne and wanted his babies and the thought went away. Their conclusion was that Travis Brown has some major power in his dick to stop suicidal thoughts

Can't see McGregor not fighting though given how many people will already have made plans to travel to Vegas. They'll feed him someone, even it isn't the title fight they want. Not like there'll be a shortage of people looking for the fight.

Even someone like Duffy or Poirier would do if they were ready for it.

He would literally murder Diego.

Another Kings MMA fighter getting injured ffs.
i think its the best idea

Connor vs anyone will save the PPV and fans who are travelling get to still see him fight, he almost certainly wins and is 100% for UFC 200

Sanchez is past his best but is a big name, is fighting on that card at lightweight and they have beef

Not too disimilar to when Anderson Silva stepped up to light heavyweight a few times. He fought a past it Forest Griffen for example

Has to be Diaz. The trash talk will save and hype the event while not putting Conor in too much danger of losing.

He already destroyed Porier, and Porier defeated Duffy recently. Duffy fight might have some draw because of the "the last fighter to defeat McGregor", however not many people really know Duffy.

Cerrone or Nate Diaz are the only good options imo.

Diego Sanchez would be good fun, same as Nate Diaz.

Eddie Alvarez would be the best option if possible. They could make it a title eliminator. Cowboy is a good option as well. He only lost to Dos Anjos but he could fight for to earn a rematch, just like DC did after loosing to Jones.

lightweight is a stacked division to the top 30, any guy could potentially beat Conor... guys like James Vick should/might be asking for this fight. But those are fights probably wont happen. Better to fight a known guy instead of try your luck with uncertainties.

I think its gonna be Cowboy or Nate Diaz. I wish it would be Alvarez. No idea what will happen though.

Give the man some spliff and they can market it as Conor McGregor vs. Super Saiyan Nate Diaz. I'd be up for that.

Alvarez already stated on Ariel Helwani's prodcast that he's not fit to fight for a while because he sustained some injury in the Pettis fight so that's not happening.

Well this serves the UFC right! The MMA gods cant accept Conor to fight for the lightweight title without beating someone in the division first.

Twitter going nuts saying RDA telling his wife that she best have the receipt for the red panties.... time to return them.

That sucks.

Which fight would be best then? Cerrone? Pettis? Diaz? Cant see anybody else being introduced to it.

His coach says its not broken he cant put pressure on it for 3 weeks.
How convenient will it be if its an injury that cant be shown by xray..
