The MMA thread

So Dada5000 was in a critical condition Friday night but is fine now

I haven't watched the fight but according to most reports he had no business being in a pro mma fight

Totally embarrassing for the sport. I'm sure I'm not alone in this thread that desperately wants mma to be seen as a legitimate sport with incredible athletes...This shite Bellator is trying has no business in the sport in 2016

Thankfully he is going to be fine, but if he had died not only tragic for his family but would also have set the sport
Back years.

Too much potassium in his blood stream I heard? I'd imagine the 40 pound weight cut was at least partly to blame. Hopefully most of that weight came off in camp, and not in the days leading up to the fight...but I'm not holding much hope for that.

Looked like a fairly soft tap.

yeah.. all the smiling had me intrigued. When they hugged at the beginning of the fight, i was like "wtf... this is kinda weird, why everybody so happy?. I hope this shit is not fixed."

That was quick. Good job Cowboy on taking full advantage of that takedown. nice welterweight debut.

and that was it. The best cowboy won. good event overall.

Bangbose, Camozzi, Brunson and Garbrandt quite impressive.

Yesterday's event wasn't the most interesting I've seen so far.
Garbrandt vs Mendes was a pretty good fight though, I enjoyed that one. Great finish by the hometown boy.

Oliveira has the best entrance in the UFC. Cerrone did well to get that submission locked in so quick.

Journo who broke the news of Aldo's injury is now saying Dos Anjos has broken his foot.

Yeah, John Kavanagh just tweeted ":(". Must be true.

I think on this occasion I wouldnt blame McGregor to leave it and wait till UFC 200

But knowing him he will take no matter who is offered

So Cerrone is the most obvious

Ben Henderson would have been another option if he hadnt jumped ships

Conor would not be able to make featherweight this short, so it wont be any of them, besides Frankie is currently on the shelf

Cerrone just fought two days ago.

Aldo makes the most sense - catchweight so both can make weight on short notice, or at lightweight.

That makes no sense at all.

Aldo hasn't been training for a fight and will only fight for the title and McGregor isn't making Featherweight now, plus he was beaten comprehensively several months ago and is probably under a 6 month medical suspension for concussion.

I can see the UFC just pulling it till 200.

That's why I said Catchweight...if they can reach a compromise weight of say 150 or so then its do able. Aldo should have no issues taking a McGregor rematch on short notice as Mendez did it and almost beat Conor.

Aldo probably weighs 160-170 at this moment...same as McGregor. Catchweight would not be required

But it still aint gonna happen

They can also fight at lightweight. Anything is possible for Dana and Lorenzo when the PPV lure of McGregor fight is on the table.

Still hasnt sunk in. The best thing for the UFC is to wait until 200 and let Holly/Tate have the main event but knowing them they probably wanted Conor on this card and 200 so who are the possible opponents?

Nate Diaz - Willing to fight but will probably extort them to save the day  Plus I don't think he can make weight on such short notice, especially as he has nothing lined up at the moment.

Tony Ferguson - I would love for it to be El Cucuy but as @CassiusClaymore said, I dont think the UFC want to risk Conor losing in a non-title fight with UFC 200 round the corner. Tony would probably be ready and willing and able to make weight with his fight against Khabib announced.

Cowboy - Sellable fight but he just fought and would struggle to make weight this quickly. Maybe a catch weight fight here could work...

Pettis - Would have been him had he beat Alvarez but I can't see him agreeing to fight Conor on such short notice and risk a 3rd consecutive loss...

Diego Sanchez - hear me out! He's already on the card so can obviously make weight. He still has a name, can put on a good show and will probably stand and trade with Conor and get KTFO. Best outcome for the UFC Brass.

I would feed him nate diaz or eddie alvarez. Or cowboy. I think he beats any of those. Diego sanchez would be too easy.

The irish fans that will be the majority, deserves a decent card after all.

Are tickets refundable in situation like this?

Didn't Cowboy just fight at Welterweight though?

I guess if Conor is insistent he wants a fight they'll find him one but I just think the UFC will push to hold off till 200.

Absolute shite month for MMA fans.

Cain-Werdum falling through, Randleman passing, now this :(
