The MMA thread

Just caught up with last nights card. What an amazing performance by Wonderboy! That could well be your next WW champ right there. Most impressive performance I've seen in that division for a long time. He made Hendricks look like a complete chump. Also that flying knee ko in the prelims was brutal. I was seriously a little worried for Lahat he was left on the mat for ages.

I think Nurmagomedov is the only other contender who would beat Ferguson in that division right now. Kind of a shame for him to most likely end his winning streak but should be an interesting fight. Khabib is too much of a grappling prodigy to get caught in anything and I think Ferguson is in danger of getting ragdolled.

Extremely impressed with Thompson. Would maybe like him to fight once more before getting the title shot.

That Tampa card is deadly, as is 197. Everyone is fighting before and quite close to 200, makes it very difficult to call who'll be on that card.

Also CM Punk is gonna get walloped around by Gall, I thought he looked quite nervous.
It was hilarious watching that journalist get fist-planted though

Of course he will be nervous, would be strange if he wasn't but props to him for giving MMA a shot.

Just caught up. Nickelson pretty much got curbstomped, such a one sided fight. Loved Benavidez vs Makovsky. Result seems fair, Makovsky did not get much in besides a few takedown attempts.
Wonderboy winning was awesome. Very dominant and great first round knockout. I think he has a bright future ahead, might be a future champ too.

I'm with #TeamCucuy. I think Ferguson will finish KHabib.

Its all about movement and fluidity these days.

Wonderboy performance last night was awesome.

Sage Northcutt looking up to him i would guess. That was a great lesson on MMA Karate.

I hope we see the real Jon Jones and he takes DC apart! Obviously the worry with him being out of the octagon for so long.

Funny that DC said he wants Jones to fight how he wants him to fight. Jones makes a living of beating people at their own game.

CM Punk to undergo surgery. He's a joke.

Also, call me mental but I think Cormier may beat Jones, or at least push him more than last time, which wasn't an easy fight for Jones.

"It's not up to me, but if I have any stroke at all, I'm still saying [UFC 200]. But we'll have to wait and see," Punk said.

I'm afraid there's only the one kind of stroke you have now lad, and that is to stroke your lad.

Surprised how much hate there is for Cormier and how much love there is for Jones.

Would love to see Cormier beat him, should be brilliantly hyped either way and a great fight.

Jones is a freak of nature, what is not to love? The guy has been the best for a while now so its obvious he has a lot of fans.

For their fight i was totally emotionally invested on DC. Always liked him as a fighter and commentator and wanted him to win badly.

But when he started with the shit talking my love levels for him went down.

As you say, for this second fight i expect nothing but a hell of a fight. No favourite to win this time. I think DC should be even better than the first time, but Jones is looking renewed and motivated, and that's scary.

So I heard Punk got so scared watching Mickey Gall that he injured his back? This guy clearly wont fight.

I cant stand DC. I was rooting for him right up until the camera went to his corner before round 4 or 5 (against Jones) and his corner man said, "do you want this?" and you can see clearly on his fat face that he just wanted to tuck into a KFC family bucket.

And now he has the belt, he acts so bloody smug. I just really dont like that piece of toilet trash.

So you were rooting for him until ...he looked like his will was sapping after 4 tough rounds against Jon Jones? How is that something to stop liking a fighter over?

DC is a good guy and he's not really that smug, only a little when promoting fights or joking around in the tv studio. He gives props where it is due like how he always says that he believes Jon Jones to be the best MMA fighter of all time. Meanwhile Jon Jones is hitting pregnant ladies in DUI's. I'm looking forward to Jon Jones being back in the cage as much as the next guy, but lets not get it twisted on who the bad guy is here. The last few pages of this thread are proof as to why sometimes famous people can quite literally get away with murder in this world.

No, it was the fact that he went on and on about how he can handle Jones for 5 rounds, it's what he trained for blah blah blah and then seemed defeated when he was still in the fight. Instead of trying to change up his gameplan, he just got obsessed about getting a takedown/slam. It was pathetic when you consider his calibre and the fact that he is an Olympian.

I'm not saying I likes Bones either. He is a great fighter, but seems like a horrible person. But DC annoys me more. Bones is a douchebag and knows it. DC acts all high and mighty but is also a dick head. Look at how dismissive he was of Gus before the fight, telling Gus that he only beat nobodies and should really retire... He also belittled Bones until he got slapped up then started showing some respect, because he probably knows deep down that Bones will make him cry again.

Some of you lot get far too emotionally invested in all this. I don't give a feck what they're like as a person. I just enjoy watching them punch each other in the face.

Oh... I assumed it was Bryan Barberena

EDIT:looked again. It surely is John Travolta....I dont get it

Which weight division has the toughest pool of fighters?

I'm with the people who can't wait to see Jon Jones smash DC's face, it's gonna be epic.

Will be interesting to see if Jones can step up a level now that he's fully focused, that would be scary for the division.

Middleweight is top heavy and aging almost as bad as heavyweight, I think it's going to look a lot weaker in a few years. Lightweight is the deepest and overall best division, welterweight isn't too far behind and then featherweight ahead of middleweight imo.

That said there are great prospects and fights to be had in every division more or less. Light Heavy is the most dead, in that outside of the Jones vs DC rematch and Jones vs Rumble, there is little else of interest on the horizon.

that's what Conor is waiting for.

4 belts, one man.

Had it in my head there was a UFC event yesterday. Disappointing now, I guess I'll just watch UFC 189 or something.
Nope, and I really hate non ufc weekends

Their roster is huge and they have fighters wanting to fight more often, I see no reason why they can't have a weekly card

And next weeks is on a god damn Sunday night which really doesn't suit me at all

Ah feck sake, Sunday?! There is also a WWE ppv that night, goddamnit entertainment getting in the way of writing my thesis.
