The MMA thread

Looking forward to the Irish press conferences and all the boyos making a holy show of themselves again.

The McGregor disciples are the worst thing about him. They lap up everything he says and make out it's the best wittiest trash talk ever. He's a pretty funny guy but it's not particularly good trash talk. He just shouts over everyone and mainly talks about money. His best line was probably the Free TV Fighter one, other than that it was his usual stuff. RDA probably got the better one in when he mentioned Conor was speaking Spanish.

Although I can criticise dos Anjos for getting sucked in, he's speaking a foreign language and constantly being interrupted. That alone is annoying, and the personal taunts certainly won't help.

The constant interrupting is annoying. Use that time to think up a few more witty comebacks, instead of just shouting over him whenever he begins to speak.

You both said it. It's annoying. He's getting under RDA's skin at every possible moment. I have no doubt he'll take a beating at some stage in the ring, but there's no doubt that outside of the ring, in the mental warfare pre-fight, he is the very best at the moment. RDA was visibly annoyed for most of the press conference while Conor was relaxed and had a laugh. In other words, job done for McGregor.

McGregor probably doesn't mind as long as he drags him into engaging in it.

Have to say, I thought he lost out when they did the faceoff, Dos Anjos looked furrrrious. Conor tried a little headfake and all, he didn't blink.

Yep.

"Viva la Brasilia", "Gringo", "fake Brazilian". Some of the shit McGregor says can be painful to listen to.

For every funny line he spouts, there is another to show how much of an utterly thick fecker he is. Which says a lot about the fanboys that hang on his every word.

What the feck is he doing?

I do agree about the face off. RDA came off better there.
He's doing the 'spinal waves' from his movement training, kept doing it in his post fight interview with Fox after the Aldo fight. He is a believer lol.

McGregor's trolling is funnier when doing it against the likes of Mendes or Faber, who already have a strong grasp of English so it really becomes a battle of wits whereas what he did against Aldo and doing with RDA is just annoying. It's already difficult for RDA to as he is trying to speak a different language to his mother tongue and constantly being interrupted by someone acting like a 12 year old child must be annoying.

Also, Conor bringing in the race stuff is just stupid. So is he saying all those Irish people who moved to USA are traitors too? But what I hate most are the Conor nut-huggers. I just want him to get sparked out one time so these "fans" can just feck off. That guy shouting "precision beats power" really needed a slap across the face.

I preferred Dominick Cruz's trash talking as it had a bit more substance to it.

Aye, those fans shouting things out irritated me too. Obsequious twerps.

It's only a few lads probably well tanked having a bit of a laugh. They're doing no harm to anyone just livening the place up a bit.

All part and parcel of any sport that involves professional athletes trying to kick the absolute living shite out of one another.

They are obnoxious tossers who are as big headed as Mcgregor, believing they could nock out half the roster. Difference between Mcgregor and them is they would get knocked out in less then ten seconds against all the people Mcgregor (And subsequently they) have insulted.

They're no different to the lads that roar and shout out all sorts of stuff to footballers from inside the advertising hoardings.

What do ye want MMA fans and the like to turn into what the Cricket and Tennis crowd are like? Pure dry shites.

I don't know. I just find it all a bit cringing really. The shouting McGregor quotes desperate for him to say something back is bad enough but then laughing at everything he says as well even if it's not funny was just as bad.

Again I like McGregor he has plenty of funny quotes but that press conference wasn't that funny.

It's a press conference. Not a fight. I'd find it slightly weird if during a Champions League press conference with Rooney and LVG a bunch of fans were stood at the back shouting "ROONEY ROONEY ROONEY"

If the normal average joe soap paying fans were allowed in to a CL press conference I'd put money on a lot worse being shouted up than what a few innocent well oiled McGregor fans came out with so far.

That doesn't make the McGregor ones any less cringing though. I don't mind them cheering him in or out or whatever but the laughing at everything he said, shouting his quotes. It's all just a bit sad and screams of "Oh Conor please recognise me!"

I find people cribbing about it more cringing.

Nobody likes those fans. Guys who scream obnoxious shit in an attempt at being funny. They usually aren't funny and are usually bellends who support the BNP.

Fair enough, no need to get your back up though. I'm allowed an opinion. It's not just McGregor either it's when anyone does it for anyone like that it's all a bit pathetic for me. I don't really think you should allow fans into all the press conferences personally, it just ruins them a bit cos you don't get any actual answers to questions. Each to their own though.

The problem with them is they are everything bad about Mcgregor without any of the good. They constantly belittle and trash talk fighters yet unlike Conor cant back it up. Also, they lack any respect for other fighters bar Mcgregor, who himself has shown incredible respect for all the fighters of the UFC.

This would be better, have a proper, press only conference, then have some kind of fan forum for drunks to shout about Aldo's pussy or whatever shite is the current mad bantz.

Tim Means vs Cowboy Cerrone, for his welterweight debut. (pittsburg fight night, feb 21)

I think he might get destroyed.

ps. ufc should do more of this clips

Thought McGregor looked a bit scared of RDS in the staredown.

Agree. Even tried a little headfake that didn't work. He was trying to make himself look bigger too, while RDA just bore a while in his head with that stare. I'd like to have seen a camera over Dos Anjos shoulder to see McGregor's face.

Edit: McGregor was the one who backed out of the stare and RDA did a little "yeah, that's right" nod after. Not saying it means anything, but I think RDA looked far more intimidating there.

There's a fair size difference - doesn't look good for McGregor.

RDA definatly blinked a bit... i can see the fear deep down those eyes.

edit. of course he is not afraid or in fear, but he is fuming, and that's a job done for Conor.

I'd say the fact none of you can agree whether RDA or McGregor looked more worried is a surefire sign that neither of them looked worried.
