The MMA thread

49-46 one way and 49-46 the other and you can't even be mad at the judges. Most of the rounds were extremely close. Cruz is sort of the Mayweather of MMA in fighting style imo.

Come on man that was super close, it was by no means clear, but it was a very good fight.

yes it was close, and if it where just a fight, i wouldn't care, but the belt you have to win it. Leave no doubt about it.

That's why i was with the referees in the Jones vs Gustaffson or Lawler vs Condit for example, which in my opinion where even closer than this one.

There in lies the problem really, because they are title fights, you are usually going to have 2 of the best fighters in the world against each other and it will always be a judging nightmare as both guys will have there moments.

Nor did Cruz.
Exactly so what point are you trying to make? I seem to be lost. You're saying Dillashaw should keep the belt because he was champion and it was a close fight? What I'm saying is if it is that close of a fight, you can't complain if the belt changes hands.

i meant the Pettis fight.

he didn't finish him but his victory was indisputable. That's the way you win a belt imo.

You win a title fight the same way you win any other fight. There's no champions bias in the rules and nor should there be. It's such a cliche.

that's a good summary.

I am of the opinion that in title fights, the challenger needs to make it clear he is the better fighter and deserved new champion to be victorious. That way you avoid a constant rotation of the belt and lucky one nighters. If a title match is close, like this one tonight, or extremely close like the Jones and LAwler ones, the champion should retain the title, but a immediate rematch should be granted.

that's just my opinion. for me it make sense.

ps. Hopefully Cruz is good to go in 3-4 months and not a year.

edit.

I'm not saying it should be an official rule or anything like that. I'm just pissed because of the late title fights i remember, the close decisions went for the current champions. I was expecting the trend to continue.

Okay, I understand your point now. Sometimes you will just get guys that can't dominate each other like that so judges will have to be called in to make a tough decision. I agree that a rematch should be the way forward because it was so close. Like you said hopefully Cruz is not out for a while, a foot injury should hopefully keep him out for short time. UFC 200 seems to be an option but don't think the UFC will put him on the card due to his injury record.

Cruz the winner for me and the judge that scored four rounds to TJ should be ashamed right now, absolutely pathetic. How you give TJ four of those rounds is beyond me. Incredible story and moment for Cruz. Probably a rematch if Cruz stays healthy which I've got no complaints about.

Good Main Event but disappointed with the rest of the main card. Mitriones eye though, feck me

Just watched it

Great fight but I had TJ winning with rounds 1,4 and 5 even a case for 3

When the 3rd score was read out I was sure it would be TJ's

But hard not to be super happy and impressed for Cruz....although I'm not sure his body will hold up to be a regular fighter

With TJ needs to do is get the Faber storyline to rest and fight him ASAP....it will be the closest thing to a wwf storyline you can get

Jesus in the last couple of Instagram photos he's posted McGregor looks massive.

McGregor looks about 170 there. No way he'll ever diet down to 145 after that.
How can you guess his weight from a photo? Anyway..

"He's a very big guy. I was impressed with how big he is," Chael Sonnen told Jim Rome as he spoke about his time with McGregor at ESPN. "I was like 'Conor, what do you weigh?', he said 'I'm around 172 lbs'. He's got to be 145 lbs in eight days."

Mcgregor came out and denied he was 172 that close to the fight however.

Saw the event. How the hell did Browne get away with those eye pokes? Mitrione was looking pretty good until the second one, after which it was obvious it was affecting him. Really hard done by.

Pettis was awful in his fight, a fight I thought he would win easily. After RDA's gameplan you would think Pettis would have thought of a counter strategy against others who try to emulate what RDA did but Pettis just let Alvarez take him on a tour of de ja vu. I dont know why but Alvarez still hasnt convinced me that he is a top 5 fighter. He was sloppy against Cerrone, could have easily lost against Giblert Melendez had Melendez not shut down after one round and again seemed to edge by again...

The main even was a really good fight, all it needed was for Faber to run in and give TJ a steel chair shot on the head. I dont know why people think TJ should have won though as from my memory I just remember TJ mainly shadow boxing and landing a few shots whereas Cruz avoided most of TJ's aggression, landed some really nice combos and a few power shots and also got about 4 takedowns (granted they led to nothing but all know the judges cream their pants whenever there is a takedown). I had Cruz comfortably winning and am glad he got the decision.

Pretty easy with deductive reasoning. He looked like a skeleton at the 145 weight in with Aldo and his normal fight weight against Aldo on fight night was probably closer to 160, so the latest Instagram pic basically looks like he's got another 10 lbs on his frame, which would be expected given his height. I can't see him fighting again at 145 at this point.

If he wins the LW title i doubt he will. He just wants to be the first guy to hold two belts at the same time.

Managed to avoid the results and have just watched last night.

Man, I'm in awe of Cruz. He is phenomenal.

Disappointed with Showtime, there's an obvious game plan to beating him now and unless the UFC gift him better match-ups he could lose a few more. Still feel McGregor and him is the dream fight at lightweight.
