The MMA thread

I just watched Ariel's interview with TJ and he was tongue jutting and his lips were clenched tightly when Cruz getting into his head was discussed. He's clearly been affected by the shit-talking and it's a case of whether he's goaded into fighting Dominick's fight rather than his own. There's also a big question mark over the ring rustiness of Cruz, but I think he's got the edge here. I can't wait.

Just remembered that TJ's nickname used to be 'The Viper' but after McGregor slapped the 'snake in the grass' label on him I think he removed it. It's even been deleted from Wikipedia but people will never forget  I would love it if Bruce Buffer announced him as TJ, the snake in the grass, Dillashaw  poor TJ.

Aldo's team are upset that they had been requesting a title fight at lightweight the past four years but were told Aldo would have to drop his featherweight belt.

I can half understand why McGregor's title shot bothers them but I mean Aldo's fights were half the draw McGregor's are.

In a division where the top 10 includes the likes of Cerrone, Pettis, Diaz, Barboza and Ferguson, you're calling RDA a gigantic LW...

I agree.

The fanboyism here for McGregor is off the chart. If McGregor is just a big FW then so is RDA. They carry their weight differently, McGregor more through the legs and back and RDA across the torso but they're not far apart in weight. RDA makes 155 easily whilst Conor looks terrible making 145.

If McGregor loses, it won't be because RDA was bigger.

A profession former UFC fighter said RDA is the biggest, strongest LW he's ever fought. I'm not sure what planet you're on, but here, on earth, RDA is one of the biggest LW's.

He is thicker, and he is more broad. Look at that picture of Cerone and RDA. Cerone is taller. RDA is the bigger, more powerful man.

Out of interest, who? Because it's unlikely that he has fought the likes of Cerrone, Barboza, Johnson and Fergusons.

I don't buy this idea that RDA is a gigantic LW. One of the strongest maybe, but not the biggest. Johnson, Pettis, Barboza and Ferguson almost certainly cut just as much if not more then RDA. Where as, going back to the original point, everything about McGregors weigh ins to fights suggests he's too big for FW. Certainly the bigger fighter relative to their division compared to RDA at LW.

When they get in the cage, there won't be much of a size advantage on either side. 5lbs at the most based on how drawn out McGregor looks cutting to 145 compared to RDA's cut to 155.

That's the strangest 30-27 card I've ever seen. There's no possible way to score that first round for Rosa. 29-28 was correct though.

Latifi has ridiculous power. That was the quickest fight ever, seeing as they practically skipped the walkouts haha.

Another great fight

Would love to see how the judges had scored if it had gone to decision

Although Cruikshank did more damage, Felder had two good sub attempts in each round

Disappointing performance from Ross Pearson. He's a win one lose one kind of guy on the edge of the top 15 unfortunately. Doesn't seem able to go any higher.

Looks like it will only get worse for him now, very much on the decline. Can't even seem to win striking matches now and that is his main strength.

USA should change timezone... I'm struggling to stay awake after a weekend skiing :p
They should do this like... 5-6 hours earlier!

Those eyepokes changed this fight for sure. Mitrione was very clearly affected afterwards. I wouldn't be so quick to give the benefit of the doubt that they were 'accidental'. Should have been a point deduction at the very least.

Edit: WTF THAT EYE

Wow Mitrione's right eye is awful, one of the worst I've ever seen.

Yep, don't think I'm going to sleep tonight. When I first saw it I thought it was his eyeball pushed up out of his face.
Give that man some ice. Don't know if they will just cut it back stage and send him to a plastic surgeon. You can understand why people can't watch MMA, when you see something like that.

Pettis has loads of talent but the playbook on how to beat him is well established now and that's what Eddie did tonight. Doesn't make for an exciting fight but it's understandable.

Alvarez vs Ferguson no.1 contender. Make Pettis vs Barboza.

I think Pettis vs Diaz should be made next considering the bad blood they have. But I agree with Alvarez vs Ferguson, that would be a wild fight, both should be 5 rounder's as well.

You're right that's even better. Looking forward to this main event, should be high level. Too hard to predict, it depends on how Cruz turns up after so long out.

my brother had to quit for good jujitsu and pretty much every other sport because of a ACL injury.

this guy comes back after 3. crazy.

does kicking that knee can break it again?

edit. so good at ducking punches.

TJ has blown a huge chunk of his wad coming up short on all these loaded shots. It is still a close fight though, but Cruz is just slightly edging each round imo.
