Now I'll mostly like get murder on here for saying this but watching UFC for the last year it's incredibly(Although with one BIG difference)similar to the wrestling that I watched as a kid in the late 90's.It seems for the most part the fighters seem to be playing characters during the press conferences and interviews (For good reasons as it sells tickets)Conor as much as I like the guy being a Dubliner myself it's hard not to notice that he's pretty much Ric Flair, these interviews where he's talks in these mystic quotes as if he's some Celtic warrior in a J. R. R. tolkien book(I say book I mean the movies, I haven't read anything that fecking long), yet everyone say's when the camera off he's a perfect gentleman. The same would apply to Ronda as well

Now not to say any of this is bad, quite the opposite and I think it adds a bit of fun before you know the good stuff the punching and kicking.

The key difference being that UFC fans accept the childish bullshit between fights as a necessary evil to sell tickets. Wrestling, on the other hand, is the childish bullshit between fights.

Now, provided Aldo hasn't aged considerably in the last year and started a rapid decline, he is going to run right through Connor.

Someone might need to put Dana on suicide watch.

Very good. Now brace yourself for the wrath of the Irish on here.

A lot of people are predicting a Rousey win if and when they rematch....that she needs to go back to her Judo game....she had Holm in a couple of clinches last night and couldnt flip her or take her down...Holm defended quite well.

Well the poster puts McGregor in a no win situation in that post

If Aldo loses, it's because he has declined. If he runs through him he has been found out

Holm looked absolutely massive and her footwork was brilliant. It will be tough for Rousey to beat her imo.

Yup, that is correct. Nobody exactly knows the extent of her injuries though.

Rousey came out with a horrible game plan. The gulf in class regarding to striking was plain to see. Just realized today that Rousey has extremely poor head movement.

Holly was on a different le el today altogether. Clearly showed how well she had trained for the fight. There was a time when Rousey bum rushed her, she just ducked, weaved and cidcked effortlessly and Rousey got dumped on her bum because of that. Anyone has a gif if it? Would be much obliged.

Managed to a void all spoilers and just watched it now.

Holy shit! To be honest we all knew Ronda's stand up was pathetic but due to poor opposition and endless hyperbole it was easy to forget after a while. Holly is a proper combat athlete, who actually trains at a top camp and the result? Ronda gets completely tooled. Completely tooled, even in the grappling. It was still a huge shock though.Big wake up call for Ronda. She's been very easy to dislike recently, which probably comes along with all the attention. She's at a crossroads now she can either show humility, work hard and seek to get her title back or walk away to WWE or something.

Also glad to see Joanna win. It was a very competitive and interesting fight but she didn't look at her best to me.

Reading now that the reason Rousey wasn't around post fight was because she was rushed to hospital.

I read it was for stitches to her lip, which makes no sense. I don't think Dana would have let her face the press there anyway. Usually he wants the loser to have to face questions right after, but here he wants Ronda to save as much face as possible. He's terrified over the prospect of losing his cash cow.

Yeah that's true. Tbh I'd only watched the second round. After watching the full fight she nullified her grappling very effectively too and got straight back up when put down. Must have been a helluva confidence booster.

I'm not sure an instant rematch is even the best thing for Ronda to be honest. She's likely going to be changing a lot of things in her training etc and a tune up, return fight makes a lot of sense for her in my opinion. Rushing her back into a rematch, based on this evidence I could easily see it going a similar, if less dramatic, way. Let Miesha fight Holly and Rousey fight Pena or someone (Not Nunes though, she is a beast on the rise). She also looked like she had a very poor weight cut, she looked very ill. She should try to keep her weight in better check out of competition, she got rather chunky in between her last two fights. It feels weird to comment on a girl's weight like that but she's a fighter so it's allowed!

P.S Holly's agent claims to have won 6 figures on the fight from the bookies. What a great day for that guy.

Rousey doesn't even look remotely like a member of the female sex here. PEDs in male sport is one thing, but when female athletes are starting to look like they are undergoing a sex change transformation then something is seriously wrong.

Im more worried about all the people who find her so attractive

It's fascinating. My theory is that certain closet homosexuals (who ordinarily can't bring themselves to be outwardly sexually passionate about women), are drawn to Rousey because they are able to publicly sexually objectify her without it being entirely insincere on account of her looking like a bloke.

I'd rather see Holm beat her again, but Ronda last night was not looking to use judo, not when it mattered.

What I mean is, Ronda had completely bought into her own hype that she was a world class striker. She came into the fight looking to batter Holly standing. The way she charged around the octagon, almost disdainfully, emphasizes her game plan all the more. By the time Ronda realized she needed to work the clinch and take her down, it was almost too late.

When Ronda clinched and took her down, she effortlessly passed guard and put Holm in an extremely dangerous position. Holm was very close to being submitted right there. Holm gets credit where it's due, she survived.

The thing is, Ronda was ALREADY in trouble at this point. She had taken some big shots. She had run around the ring like a maniac. Shortly after the failed armbar, Holly BLASTED Ronda. She hurt her very badly, and I doubt Ronda knew what the feck was happening after that big left. I'm actually shocked at how badly it hurt her, and shocked that Holm didn't end the fight then and there.

So, by the time Ronda realized she was in trouble, it was more or less too late to adapt. She was hurt and tiring.

How does the fight change if Ronda isn't trying to chase Holm down and slug it out? How does it change of Ronda comes into the fight knowing that she has to fight on the razors edge, she has to avoid the striking secure the take-downs and fight on the ground?

Rondas striking initially was always a tool. It simply had to be good enough for her to gap close and not get KO'd, so she could grab you and throw you on your head and then armbar you. Over the last 12 months or so, something changed and Ronda decided she was the best striker too, and then she had that chip on her shoulder. The question is, is more cautious and thoughtful Rousey striking good enough to get her into the clinch enough times to secure enough take downs to earn her enough submission attempts?

I highly doubt the next fight these two have will look ANYTHING like this one. Ronda won't disrespect a superior striker like that again and leave herself totally open to counter strikes. She will look to close distance to grapple, not close distance to throw ugly, sloppy left hooks and overhand rights.

What evidence do you have to support that? Whens the last time Aldo stopped someone impressively? Sorry to say, but Aldo will gas and be stopped early against McGregor.

What evidence do you have to support that Connor is anything but an entertaining trash talker and UFC hype?

Aldo has fought the best in the division multiple times, been tried, tested and come out the other side time and time again. He has shown he is better than Connor EVERYWHERE by his actions, in actually fighting top class fighters.

Connor has potentially one advantage, power.

Connor was also hilariously exposed by Mendes, a guy with a 7-9 day training camp, who practically gassed walking to the octagon took Connor down at will. The only thing that kept Connor in that fight was Chad going for submissions and losing position, and being exhausted a minute and a half into the fight.

So what evidence do I have to support it? What a pompous question. Jose Aldo has reigned in one of the most talent heavy divisions for a DECADE, and he has DOMINATED for a decade. The burden of proof isn't on me. It's on you. Aldo is the establishment. He is the known, tested, and true commodity. Connor is mostly hype right now. His only important fight to date has a huge * beside it.

*Took fight on one week notice and gassed walking to octagon.

Jose is faster.
Jose is more explosive.
Jose is more athletic.
Jose has better striking defense.
Jose has better kicks.
Jose has better wrestling.
Jose has better JJ.
Connor might have better power.
Connor is more cocky.
Connor has more UFC hype support.

Chad Mendes with a full camp, respects Connors power, but the fight is standing for all of about 30 seconds per round. Connor has no wrestling and he has no ground game. He's an even more one dimensional version of Chuck Liddell.

I see any number of ways for Jose to win this fight. I only see one way for Connor to win, father time.

Conner has some of the greatest pound for pound power I've ever seen. It's going to be a great fight.
Hopefully he'll cop on enough to defend properly this time, counterpunch and he can beat anyone.

Well, I guess until she'd been to the hospital they could have thought she had any number of injuries? True though, probably convenience as much as anything.

The plan was for her to disappear for a while to film a movie and some other junk, supposedly that's still the plan.

I see a touched a nerve. I'll await your "Jose's finished" bollox when Conor stops him. And lol at the "if Mendes had a full camp". Two weeks or ten weeks, those body shots still kill him.

, personally, im happy she got knocked out, was getting so much unnecessary hype, calling her the best of all time, even though it was only her 12th fight in ufc

Most people fight so much more and have a varied skillset before they get recognition, her main takedown weapon is her armbar

A lot of people are predicting a Rousey win if and when they rematch....that she needs to go back to her Judo game....she had Holm in a couple of clinches last night and couldnt flip her or take her down...Holm defended quite well.

Greg Jackson obviously prepared her for all of Rousey's strengths. She did well when Ronda had her in the clinch and managed to get out of several other tricky situations that would've been the end of other fighters. Rousey obviously fecked up by thinking she could deal with Holm's distance, kicks, and overall boxing skills.

Completely disagree with Nucks about McGregor too. It's ludicrous to say that he's still just hype and the comments about Mendez being gassed on the way to the ring are just bitter.

And  @ that list.

Aye. I'm sure having to fight on short notice effected Mendes but anyone with a pair of eyes could see that McGregor wasn't exactly in prime condition either, he looked very gaunt. If you're not in condition to fight then don't fight. They both stepped up, so obviously they both felt able for it. At that point whining about the condition they were in afterwards is a bit petty.

I agree with @Nucks. Aldo is going to smash Mcgregor. Mcgregor leaves himself wide open for take downs and he looked absolutely useless on the ground against Mendes.

Think McGregor and Aldo is very hard to predict. I was favouring Connor last time, as I really think the hype train was affecting Aldo

But ther has barely been a peep from Aldo this time round. Will be very interesting to see him on fight week

The worry about McGregor on the ground is put such a worry this time out, as most of the time Aldo will be standing.

Funny, I had less confidence in McGregor winning the first time around. Aldo has gone a good while without a fight and he's been living under the McGregor cloud for all that time. Can't be good for him given how much McGregor seemed to get under his skin. Meanwhile, the Mendes fight will hopefully see McGregor re-evaluate the way he approaches the run in to his fights. Seemed like he was doing too much press and didn't cut well. If he had made those mistakes v Aldo....
