The MMA thread

Jaysus, Jippy. You're careering towards filling the vacancy left by Weaste as "official redcafe pervert". Only you (or him) could crowbar a video of birds in lingerie into a thread in the sports forum.
:lol:Tbf it was in the sidebar in the 'Russia bans Wiki' thread newspaper link. Thought it was better suited to this thread. You've got to admit though, you thought it would be powderpuff stuff too til that lass lays out the other one with a big right hook.

We might see Edgar - Holloway added to one of the cards around that time too. There's a fight night on the Friday before 194 I believe, so it might headline that and also serve as reserve for the title bout in case of injury. Should be a good festive month (including the Jan 2nd card). I'm still gutted about what happened to Oliveira in the main event last weekend though.

Edit: Oh and also how about Lawlor vs Condit in a 70,000 seater stadium?! That fight should be carnage, I can't wait. I have Robbie putting him to sleep in the 3rd or 4th.

Seems they're aiming for Jedrzejczyk vs Gadelha for the Rousey/Holm card too which would be fantastic for Joanna.
Yeah it could be as Rouseys viewing numbers just get bigger and bigger. Joanna has real star potential, not crossover like Ronda but big nonetheless. She's already hugely popular amongst the 'hardcore' base, when I browse the mma reddit or sherdog forums there's barely a time when therer isn't a front page thread on her even if it's just a silly instagram post. Kinda crazy, I'll admit I'm a big fan too, although Gadelha should be a really tough fight.

JDS/Overeem is finally happening, set for the December card UFC On Fox 17. Dos Santos to win via near on murder is my prediction. The card right now looking very tasty:

  • Champ Rafael dos Anjos vs. Donald Cerrone – for lightweight title
  • Junior Dos Santos vs. Alistair Overeem
  • Nate Diaz vs. Michael Johnson
  • C.B. Dollaway vs. Nate Marquardt
  • Tamdan McCrory vs. Josh Samman

I am a fan of Overoid. I used to play as him in the old THQ UFC game and he was so overpowered it used to make my mates blood boil. However, I think JDS will be arrested at the end of the fight for GBH. Can't see how the horsemeat chin can hold up against him.

Ronda - Holm has been moved way forward to headline UFC 193 in Australia. Lawlor out with thumb injury. I was really looking foward to the Lawlor/Condit fight but I guess we will see that headline 195 instead so not all bad, or maybe Dillashaw/Cuz which would also be great. Holm gets less time to prepare for her beating!

Looks like a very tasty card that! Cowboy just can't seem to fight enough! He'll have fought another several times before this card :D!

JDS vs Overeem has the makings of a really good exciting fight... But although I do like Overeem I think JDS will have way too much power for him. I'd go second round tko but I don't think JDS will have it all his way.

If Overeem refuses to raise his hands in defense again then I assume JDS will end Overeem' s career in the MMO. Too many consecutive losses (not to mention through sheer damage)

Can't wait for this weekend. Mir Orlovsky in particular.

Love this card, brilliant from top to bottom.

Pearson/Felder, Rivera/Lineker and Andrade/Pennington on the prelims makes for a brilliant watch.

Main card is stacked for me. VanZant getting another fight. Somebody getting put to sleep in the Johnson/Manuwa fight. Mir/Arlovski and then a quality main event. Dodson didn't have a very good performance on his return from injury but no doubt what so ever for me that he's Mighty Mouses biggest competition.

Picks:
Mighty Mouse - Decision
Arlovski - TKO
Johnson - Murder
Blachowicz - Decision
VanZant - Decision
Felder - Decision
Lineker - TKO
Andrade - Decision
Collard - Decision

Also, the 190 numbers look like they were likely massive. Shuts down the silly talk from the people who thought Ronda wasn't a massive draw considering what she had backing her up on that card. Biggest star in MMA.

Felder is fighting again already? That's a quick turnaround. I like that fight with Pearson though. Not a great ppv by any stretch of the imagination but still some intriguing fights. I hope Arlovski gets the win against Mir and gets the title shot. I still think it's complete bullshit that they are supposedly looking at a title rematch for Cain instead. I absolutely hate it, he should have to earn his shot again. Only exceptionally dominant champs like Anderson or Jones (when he comes back) should ever get instant title rematches. In fact even then I'm happy if they don't and have at least one other fight in the mean time.

And even in this case, it should only be an instant rematch if it was a very close fight or marred in controversy. Cain got completely dominated and should no way have been given a rematch straight away.

UFC Dublin's pre-sale tickets sold out in minutes, have to hope I get one on Friday...

Have an even more nervous wait next Wednesday for Aldo vs. McGregor tickets. :nervous:

I think you should be able to get hold of the Vegas ones. I never really hear of their tickets selling out super fast. Probably because they are used to holding events.

Didn't know if the would sell fast. I signed up for The Sun account to get early access and got tickets easy enough. But I went for most expensive ones

Yeah you can still get the expensive ass tickets alright, everything from €50 to €100 went in next to no time though. Friday will probably be the same, it's gonna be a great night... I think it's a matter of time before we get a really big fight over here, I think fighters will want to fight in front of the crowd. Mendes even commented on it after 189.

I'm pretty sure Mcgregor's next fight will be in Dublin either way. If he wins obviously a first title defence would be huge. Also if he loses they will probably still do a big rebound fight like a Holloway rematch or something. But yeah I think they're sure to have him fight there next. I'm hoping they do a good UK card soon. I strongly considered going to Glasgow but the line up didn't really cut it.

European MMA is still growing, we could have three UFC champions by the end of the year. The UFC will continue to grow and I'm positive we'll have some massive cards over here in Europe sometime in the future.

Anybody listen to the Joe Rogan podcast with Ronda and Edmond? I can't stand to hear 2 hours of arse licking so gave it a pass but apparently she talked about a few interesting things like mischa, cyborg etc.

Here we go again! Also Joanna is confirmed fighting in the ufc 193 co-main against Valerie Letourneau , in the hardest to spell sporting contest of all time. Gadelha still injured.

I did catch a bit of it while I was travelling. Don't think I made it to the stuff you mention , but she went into her background which was reasonably interesting, talks about running away from home and how depressed she was doing judo etc. Rogan came across like a 13 year old in awe of his first crush the whole time though.

To be fair, if I was Rogan I would be even worse. I'm pretty much in awe of Ronda

Good stuff from McGregor as always tonight.

Looking forward to tomorrow's card, it's a good un.

I was never a major fan of MMA TBH, and I usually hate cocky fighters, but, having watched all McGregors fights at this stage I have massive respect for him.

I reckon Aldo looks scared of him at most of those pressers.

Looking forward to seeing them fight.

Entire press event here for anybody that cares (questions and conference starts about 36 minutes in):

McGregor winding every man up on the stage, Cerrone looked like he wanted to strangle him

UFC 200 on the 9th in Vegas at the new sports arena that's being built.

Also TUF starts this Wednesday. McGregor/Faber as coaches.

Feel a lot of people are sleeping on this weekends card too. I'd be surprised if it wasn't a brilliant show.

Edit: Gone with an acca of Pennington, Arlovski, Felder and thrown in Dodson as he's out at 4/1 so thought I'd spice it up with that. About 25/1.

my main card Picks:

Mighty Mouse - by decision most likely, but i got a feeling he can finish it this time.
Mir - KO Mir is on the zone.
Johnson - TKO but if it goes to the second round, Manuwa might have a chance.
Blachowicz - TKO
VanZant - TKO

early prelims started already
