A bit gutted

A judge gave it 50-44?... Wtf

The only definite round was round 4 to story. I probably gave him 3 as well. 1 and 2 were very close but I thought they were Gunnars. So it was down to round 5 which was most likely story's.

Is at Kavanaghs first ufc defeat? Cmon paddy later

People were sleeping on Story and also have been overrating Nelson for a while now. Needs to learn from this, big blow for him IMO.

Not sure what the referee was doing in the Holloway fight too, just stood there watching Akira taking shot after shot while he was out before casually stepping in.

Ah now, you can't say that....Nelson had the first two rounds and it was pretty close in general. I think the judge who scored it 50-44 is an absolute arse....No way was it that one sided.

Having said that, I agree about people sleeping on Story.

For sure he will, he is still young. Needs to work his striking game in my opinion. When overpowered and unable to display his jujitsu, he didn't looked too dangerous. Anyway, good experience to get mauled, now he knows that feeling. I think he got concussed at some point (when he started bleeding) and was on auto pilot for the last 2 rounds.

ps. the prelims at Canada pretty sweet so far

Aye but, Nelson is a tough man, with a lot of heart....He'll be back, plus he is very grounded and mature for someone so young. He'll learn and be better for it

Absolutely. Better for him to loose sooner than later. That's a lot of pressure off, not having that undefeated streak.

Now he gets to know more of the standard he will be facing regularly at the top, which will force him to improve.

Hmm not sure. I think it was a bad loss.

Story is a good fighter and has a win over Hendricks. But he never really built on his promise of a few years ago. He should have been very beatable for Gunnar.

True that about Story, but still, his size, power and aggressiveness makes him a difficult opponent or a good test for Gunnar, because those are characteristics that will complicate him.

but yeah, i also thought he was gonna win...

ps. Daron Cruickshank on top of his game

good start to the event! very nice performance from Gagnon, getting the submission.

co-main event next! this should be good

dominant victory for Assunção (7th in a row), getting closer for a title shot.

Rory next! wow! what a finish.

Two judges got it wrong, one had Nelson winning the fight and one had 50-44 to Story, both were wrong (I'd argue that scoring it in favor of Nelson isn't much better either). The other judge got it spot on with 49-46, Story won four rounds for me and that's pretty much how quite a few places online saw it too. Story won the fight and overall Nelson didn't look good on the night. I think he's a good fighter with good potential but people were biggin' him up as some kind of unstoppable force when in reality he's just fell short in his first real test. The potentials there but this is a bit of a blow.

I would agree with all of that. I thought this was a very winnable fight for Gunnar but Story was just better overall.

Velasquez has fought five times in the last four years (six if you want to be pedantic with dates). When you look at the likes of him, Cruz and GSP, it's annoying how much time they've lost to injuries.

Yeah, he'll apparently be back for March so whoever wins at 180 will hold the interim belt until then and they'll just merge them as usual when the winner fights Cain (granted he recovers without anymore hitches).

In other news, why do people waste their time trying to trash talk with McGregor? You know you're getting shown up when you try it.

If there's one thing many accomplished fighters could work on, it's their trash talking. "I could kick your ass" doesn't work on witty people.

Mma fighting.com probably the biggest mma website

I can count 5 Conor mcgregor articles on the front page. He isn't fighting again until January and tomorrow is a fairly big ppv with a tile fight

It is really hard to like the Brazilian crowd in these shows. They are so stubborn and tunnel visioned for their own fighters even if they are getting destroyed they just do not acknowledge a foreign fighter doing well. On the other hand when a Brazilian fighter does well they do get behind them to a crazy level.

On this card I really want Mendes to win, I really like McGregor but feel he is being chauffeured to the top. Would like to see how he reacts to a spanner in the works.

I love the brazilian crowds, I don't expect a bunch of rowdy and drunk and high crowds to convey mma knowledge, they are there to have fun, feck it they wanna boo americans, let em. I love watching them chant kill him kill him.

Btw, loved when Mendes went to weigh in and he was like come on boo me louder, can't hear you. :D

The speed of Aldo is crazy, the guys an animal. Surprised they didn't have McGregor go into the octagon after the fight to talk. Not sure why Goldberg is acting as if we don't know who the next challenger is either, barring an upset against Siver it'll surely be McGregor.

After viewing that last night. I feel McGregor is a bad matchup for Aldo if he fights like that again. He was too open and got hit too many timess. He got rocked by Mendes who is not the most technically sound striker, so when a more calm and clinical striker rocks him it will be curtains. Not saying Aldo couldn't knock out McGregor but yesterday was all too wild and you can't win fights like that all the time.

It is like Weidman and Silva all over again. Silva was trying too many things offensively and Weidman just remained calm and capitalised on the mistakes.

Cracking main event last night, Mendes put up a great fight with lots of heart but ultimately Aldo just had too much class for him

Roll on McGregor vs Aldo next year

Aldo doesn't win fights like that all of the time. If anything that's just asserted Aldo as even more of a force. Showed he can take plenty of shots and still come out on top. At the end of the day he's been criticised for often playing it safe, can't say that about last night.

The guy is a completely different beast to anybody McGregor has ever come up against. McGregor isn't a bad match up for him because Aldo is the quickest and most dangerous person in the division when it comes to stand up and it'll stay that way until somebody proves otherwise. I like McGregor and am pumped to see this fight, but he's got a fecking uphill battle on his hands against arguably the P4P fighter in MMA.

I see Jimi Manuawa pulled out of his fight with Rua on sat. Foot injury. Also revealed he fought Gustafsson with already broken ribs.

What time is the Rockhold Vs Bisping on?

Pumped for the Bisping/Rockhold fight, really hoping Bisping finds a way to get the win but he's gonna have to be at his absolute best to pull it off.

I'm pretty certain McGregor should he get to face Aldo will get demolished. It's too soon for anyone who isn't just fanboing and hyping on him to really know what he represents. Is he the real deal, is he well rounded, or is he just hype?

From what I've seen so far, Aldo does everything but interviews better.
