The MMA thread

New season of TUF starts tonight for anybody that is interested, we get it the same time as the US now which is pretty awesome, airs 3am tonight on BT Sport. Pettis/Melendez as coaches for the women's strawweight division.

Andrei looked real hesitant during his comeback, didn't really throw much if I remember correctly....interesting to see if there is any fight left in the pitbull.

Would have been more impressive if it was pre TRT ban. Bigfoots chin was nothing like it was in the Hunt fight.

Is there really any evidence that TRT helps a fighter's chin? Arlovski just hits brutally hard when he commits to his shots. No-one has ever wrecked Roy Nelson like he did:

No there isn't, but it wouldn't surprise me if it affected it in some way. Let's see what happens to Vitor against Weidman as well, as everyone that came off it is getting knocked out.
Silva took all those shots against Mark Hunt, yet a short shot like that pretty much knocked him out cold.

Plus I thought Silva suffered from a disease meaning it is dangerous for him not to take TRT?

What a gimp, altough I don't really understand how you get arrested for it though. Over here a major fine and a suspension from driving seems to be enough for most people to learn their lesson.

I think you still get arrested initially don't you? They have to take you to the station to do a proper test.

Cracking main event, an an enjoyable card overall. I'm not sure why both commentators referred to it as the first KO loss of Nelson's career though, when I posted another one on this very page. Still, he has one of the all-time great chins in MMA, so that was a brilliant achievement by Hunt. Hunt vs Arlovski is rumoured to be in the works now. I'd predict that Arlovski gets gunshy again when he's facing a fighter with comparable speed, and Hunt eventually closes the distance and finishes him. I'd love to see that fight though. Great to see the heavyweight division coming back to life a bit now after a shite year.

There could be something in it, although Hendo's chin held up pretty well in the fights he was off TRT iirc and the likes of Mir got finished pretty regularly even when they were on it. Bigfoot too versus Cain. I thought Bigfoot had a legitimate medical reason to be on it too, but he supposedly screwed himself over by taking far more than the allowed amount.

just finished watching the event... what a man Hunt!

Most impressed with Myles Jury... looking good. Horiguchi also impressive.

and imo Walsh was denied by the judges from a clear victory.

Good card but I was expecting more action from the main event. Surprised Roy's chin didn't hold up better as well. That could be beginning of the end for him.

Outside of the fights it's another bad time for ufc. Thiago Silva who was rehired 2 weeks ago has now been released again after his ex wife posted disturbing videos of him on drugs and cocking a gun.

Rumble Johnson is suspended indefinitely after his wife or ex wife has reported him for a bit of domestic violence of his own.

Anyone else catch Joe Rogan's fight companion podcast. Schuab seems confident he can take Travis Browne in December.

^ That's a very exciting card imo. Main event is a little underwhelming only because Mighty Mouse is such a clear favourite and because it should have been Cormier vs Jones, but the rest looks excellent. Cerrone vs Alvarez and McGregor vs Poirier should be brilliant, and I'm a big fan of Romero. Inconsistentand sometimes baffling in terms of his gameplanning and lack of urgency, but so talented and powerful. I hope Kennedy doesn't just wrestle-feck him into oblivion, but with Romero's great wrestling credentials he should be able to prevent that. It'll be good to see Cruz make his comeback too.

Cote and Thompson could also be a dark horse for fight of the night. Great card all around.

Aye, I'm looking forward to that one. They were funny at the weigh in. They couldn't even pretend to be serious. Cote pulled some goofy pose at the staredown and Thompson stood in a Karate Kid style crane kick pose with both of them laughing like feck . Yet they'll no doubt be battering the feck out of each other in about 15 minutes. Its a strange old sport!
