The MMA thread

Postponed the prelims to keep us watching an empty cricket pitch and highlights for 40 minutes only for the players to then come on the field celebrating winning the game.

BT Sport ladies and gentleman.

Cerrone vs Eddie Alvarez at UFC 178, good way to help rescue (kind of) the card!

FlyweightDemetrious Johnson (c)vs.Chris Cariaso
LightweightDonald Cerronevs.Eddie Alvarez
BantamweightDominick Cruzvs.Takeya Mizugaki
MiddleweightTim Kennedyvs.Yoel Romero
Women's BantamweightCat Zinganovs.Amanda Nunes
FeatherweightDustin Poiriervs.Conor McGregor
WelterweightJohn Howardvs.Brian Ebersole
WelterweightPatrick Côtévs.Stephen Thompson
LightweightJon Tuckvs.Kevin Lee
LightweightJorge Masvidalvs.James Krause
BantamweightManvel Gamburyanvs.Cody Gibson

The only thing that is annoying is that the Flyweight title is the main event instead of a different fight. I know it's for the belt and all but meh, would much rather see 5 rounds of Cerrone vs Alvarez.

178 is missing the big main event but it's still a good card IMO. Awesome to finally see Zingano back, hopefully can get back to where she left off before the injury. Good test for McGregor too.

Two events tomorrow. Bisping/Lee isn't shown in BT Sport until 10pm as of the time difference in China so they can't show it live, will try to avoid spoilers. Bisping needs a win here and really hoping Kim tears through Woodley. Henderson/Dos Anjos straight after live, can't say I'm massively excited for that one though.

Poor Kim :(

Bisping basically picked apart Le for the entire fight but still should of finished it earlier. Left himself at risk at times but thankfully didn't get caught out this time, had me worried a few times. Surely Bisping/Rockhold next which would be a massive fight for Bisping.

Some good fights. Bisping and Le was great. Dos Anjos looks superb even if the stoppage was a little early

A bit of an early stoppage but never seen Henderson knocked back like that.

For all the Irish heads, 3e have signed a deal with UFC. I'm guessing it will broadcast European cards

Rumble Johnson has been practically begging Gustafsson to fight him via social media. That would be a great fight. I do understand why Gustafsson wants to sit tight and preserve his title shot but there's too many divisions in the UFC that are basically stagnant due to injuries and cautious match-making.

Ufc 177 is in bolloxed. barao missed weight, joe soto from the prelims will now fight for the title

He didn't fancy it, did he?

He's supposedly been struggling to make that weight for a long time. He's looked awful at some recent weigh ins. A poster on an MMA forum who has trained at the same gym seemed genuinely concerned about the health ramifications of the extreme weight cutting he does. Barao will assumably move up to featherweight, so I wonder if Aldo will follow suit if he beats Mendes and go to lightweight? I'd love to see vs Pettis, Henderson etc.

I think Barao even weighs more on fight night than Aldo.

That wouldn't surprise me. They look a similar-ish size in some of their sparring videos. I've read that Barao typically walks around at 160lbs or more. That's a serious amount of weight to cut.

Do you think Soto has any chance of pulling off the upset? Honestly, I don't remember seeing any of his fights in Bellator.

Not sure on the exact number but Barao was definitely 2 or 3 lbs heavier.

I have no idea who Soto is! Just read on twitter some journalists saying it could be a tough enough fight, and that Dillashaw and wasn't that happy with the change. Shouldn't have been a rematch anyway, TJ battered him. Did you watch One FC earlier? Some really late stoppages. Quite disappointed UFC didn't sign Askren.

I'd never heard of soto either

Looking at wiki, it's his ufc debut FFS

Could be a rocky moment, but I think I'd prefer if TJ wins comfortably

I saw some GIFs from One FC. Askren's on a bit of a roll in terms of stoppages. I'd love to see him fight Hendricks. Aye, some of the stoppages were stupidly late. Between that and soccer kicks to the head being legal its a pretty brutal promotion!

Without a doubt it is one of the worst PPV cards in terms of star names, but I'm sure the fights will be exciting anyway. It's hard to complain about this kind of stuff if you're living outside of North America.
