Brandao could shock Ireland here. It's going to be a great fight. Enjoy it everyone.

Clean sweep. 5-0 for kavanaghs gym. 4-0 for Irish, if we count parke it's total domination

What can this all mean?

Yeah, thought there was a right to the body that hurt him. The left that dropped him seemed to be more of a glancing blow but the replays all started at that point, so it looked very soft. You can see why the conspiracy theorists are out in force though. McGregor winning was great news for the UFC.

Skip to 1.20, on the replay it shows a good angle from above of how hard he got it. And McGregor hits really hard, heard a few people mention it.

not sure it was someone here that previously gave me website that is streamable and shows the full ufc including the prelims in one clip. Used it lots of times in the past but cant for the live of me remember it....? cheers

Poirier v McGregor confirmed for ufc 178. We will see how good Conor is then.

Cannot wait for this. I was at the Dublin card which was unbelievable. If I was rich I'd be off to Vegas at the end of September!

Poirier will obviously be his best opponent to date, but I think Conor will KO him. Poirier's stand up is a little sloppy and he can be hurt, as has been shown a few times. Conor can be got to but he has a granite chin, and his stand up is better than Poirier's. Dustin might have some success if he can take it to the ground but Conor hasn't looked bad there against two solid wrestlers/BJJ'ers in Holloway and Brandao. I just think Conor will finish him in the first or second, he has the killer instinct and his self-belief is unshakeable.

I'd be really interested to hear an opinion from a non-Irish MMA fan on McGregor. What's his profile like outside Ireland? Obviously, us Irish fans are following his career like hawks but is he perceived as just another UFC fighter in the rest of the world? Or has his showmanship elevated him to a higher level than his record deserves? The hype around him seems to be insane at the moment (considering how few UFC fights he's had) but I'm conscious that I'm seeing it all from an Irish perspective.

This is my go to MMA site http://www.mmafighting.com/

Their reporters seem to rate him, and then the comments under each story is usually more than 50% in rating McGregor.

Cool, thanks.

Although it wasn't so much whether he'a rated as a fighter. Was mainly interested in the amount of coverage/press he's getting. For a fighter with so few fights under his belt he seems to have a crazy high profile. Everyone seems to be talking/writing about him. But maybe that's just Ireland?

That's a pretty good card! Excited to see Rumble Johnson again. He should smash lil Nog.

On the UG (mixedmartialarts.com) at the moment every other thread is about him and I'd say it was 50/50 on people who see him as the next big thing and those who think he'll be found out soon enough.

Personally I don't think he will against Poirier. That's a good fight for him and certainly a better one to assess what level he's at (Brandao came in under prepped). That said I don't think anyone can rattle him and it's clear that he's got no fear once the door shuts in that cage.

I love the way he fights and for all the shit talk he backs it up and it's quite obvious that he's incredibly dedicated to his training and improving himself as a fighter.

All the main American MMA forums are swamped with threads about him. As Cassius says though, he polarises opinion like few other fighters I've seen. Alot reckon he's a hype job, and in fairness his popularity is out of kilter with the level of opposition he's fought so far.

Ok, thanks lads. I'm a big fan. I think he's great for the sport and great for Ireland. Delighted to hear he's also a big deal overseas.

I do worry about him getting found out though. Makes me cringe the way he doesn't tuck his chin. Asking for trouble. His style does look kind of cool but I've a horrible feeling someone will ring his bell soon enough.

So far his path has been kind of like Rousey, impressive wins, plenty saying they're overrated and only their because of hype/their mouth. Hopefully McGregor keeps pushing with a similar momentum, to a title.

He is being hyped by the UFC because they know they'll make huge money out of him. They have protected him to a certain extent so far in my opinion, but he probably had to be. He hadn't fought anyone half of the standard of some of the UFC top 20s. The fight with Poirier will be huge. We will see how good he is. Personally I think his standup will do it for him against Poirier. McGregor's problem will be the top level wrestlers (well that's what everyone presumes). John Kavanagh is adamant that his wrestling and wrestling defence is pretty damn good though. The fact is that we don't know how good McGregor is until he faces someone like that. Poirier should suit McGregor more-so than the likes of Guida. Although I'd back him against Guida also. Guida will leave himself open for shots whenever they are standing. Conor could really hurt him.
