The MMA thread

Ronda Rousey is so good... i was expecting a quick win but that was ridiculous.

The main event was amazing. Screaming at the tv like in football the last final rounds... great effort both guys.

Machida exposed the Champ. Its a short window but he can be beaten. (you have to survive him the first 3 rounds though)

Weidman earned some respect against Machida. He's definitely no pushover and will be hard to beat, and as Rogan said, he's so fecking big that its hard to control him, especially when he takes charge of the center of the Octagon and pushes his opponents towards the cage. Its very difficult for his opponents to execute their game plan when they are constantly trying to avoid getting pushed back into the cage.

Really good show as expected, shame that the Struve fight was called off though, clearly the right call though.

Yet another uneblievable performance from Ronda. Expected her to run through Davis but even though I said that before hand it's still crazy to see her absolutely destroy her in the space of 15-20 seconds the way she did. Interested to see if Zingano is going to go straight back in at the deep out without a warm up fight, really hope we finally get to see that. Still can't see anybody stopping Ronda though and the scary part is she's actually getting better more and more as the days go by.

Awesome main event too and big props to Weidman. Not been much of a fan of his and that was effected more when he beat Silva twice because it's never easy to see one of your favorite fighters lose. Great heart from both him and Machida last night, the guy went five rounds with a world class fighter like Machida and actually out pointed him for at least three of those rounds. I think Machida's issue came early on where he lost the first few opening rounds, rounds that with a few tweaks he could of actually taken. Both came out looking really good by the end though IMO, interested to see what's next for both.

TUF finale tonight and can't see anything other than Edgar dominating Penn.

Weidman definitely deserves alot of credit. He looked great for first 3 rounds and when Machida did come back into it. he was able to absurb some big shots.
He's not as silky smooth as Anderson Silva but I personally think he does have it in him to be champion for a long time. Vitor Belfort is lined up to face him next but the more interesting fight will be against Jacare

As long as Vitor passes his tests and even though I know he is a cheat. That is the fight I want to see

Yeah i was a bit disappointed that Lyoto couldn't close the deal in the 4th. He looked to have Weidman rattled and buckling for a while. Impressive that Weidman managed to come back and waste the rest of the 5th with another takedown.

the womens division is a bit of a joke, they really need Zigano back and sign up Cyborg... Whats other peoples opinions here on the ongoing debate of Rousey v Cyborg?

I've only seen a few youtube clips of cyborg tbh, even from that she still looks better than most in there... It seems to me Dana is terrified of signing any opponent that would put up a real challenge to Rousey in fear of his money machine breaking down!

They have done a deal with the womens MMA company Invicta to be shown on UFC fight pass. It would be in best interest for all to have them share the womens roster, with only title and number one contender fights on UFC shows.

Cyborg is Rondas only realistic contender, but she is also a cheat

I have a feeling Rousey would mangle Cyborg.

It's still not long ago everyone was saying she was a one trick pony that would get found out if a fight made it to the 2nd round. Every fight she's better, and every challenge she's stepped up to it.

They really need some new challenges for her, Zigano is probably the only other fighter left for her... Pena looks very promising but she is still a long way off a title shot!

I dunno, Rouseys striking is absolutely awful! Her technique is shite and she just wildly flaps her punches at her opponent. If there is a fighter there with strong enough defense to stop her Judo takedowns then she will quickly be humiliated in a stand up game.

Previously, McCann I felt could have been a strong challenge for her, personally I think that was stopped a little too quick and had she been given that extra second or two could have recovered. Her Olympic wrestling background is definitely strong enough to negate Rouseys judo, weather McCanns striking is then good enough is another question.

Cerrone v Miller should be great!!

Cerrone is on a role, some of his TKO's the last year are unreal! Apparently he is stoney ass broke (his quote) so he is fighting for survival... maybe he should stay broke cause he's fighting like a man possessed lately!

Not at all. She's been offered contracts to sign with the UFC and fecked it up herself. There's money to be had with a Cyborg/Rousey fight, there's no reason for Dana to avoid signing her if she's clean, silly to claim he's scared of signing competition for her, this the same week that he just signed Holly Holm. She'll have to prove she can make the weight though consistently, no chance she comes straight in and get's a title fight. That all said I'm still confident Rousey would destroy her either way.

The women's division isn't a joke. You're saying that simply because the champion is an absolute world class fighter. Welterweight division wasn't a joke when GSP was unstoppable. Same with Silva and even Jones at LHW recently. Sometimes you just get a champion who is that much better than everybody else, doesn't make the division a joke though. Take Ronda out of the equation and it's a really competitive division. It's not that the other women are shit either, it's just that Rousey is that damn good.

Also no clue where you got the idea that Rousey's striking is awful. It's improved massively which is no surprise considering she's trained it with the likes of Rijker and co.

Not really,

Dana makes more money keeping her undefeated and having that twat Joe Rogan trying to convince the world she's the greatest of all times blah blah blah! He comes out with utterly ridiculous statements about her every single PPV at this stage!

Don't try convince me or any other person with a shred of cop on about MMA / UFC that Dana will only sign her if she is clean, ffs he has fighters all over the roster on PED's! He tries to deny it but the amount of fighters stung for it now is on the up and will continue to rise! She made one mistake and was caught out, since then she has fought again and been tested and been clean! So from what I can see, it has sweet FA to do with PED's.

Your right the WW division was far from a joke, the talent across it when GSP was champ was unparralled, no other division was at the time more stacked with world class fighters, his list of wins is better than anyone else's in the history of MMA I'd argue. Rousey's win list thus far isn't anywhere as impressive, for me its ridiculous to compare.

Rouseys striking sucks, if you honestly think her striking is good you'd be happy with two guys in barney the dinosaur suits flap at each other! Her striking may have improved in the last 6-12 months but its a long way off being great, the only world class aspect of Rouseys game is her Judo takedowns! End of! Every single fight is the same, she goes right in for a takedown and gets it of course, why? because it is just that damn good and she goes for her armbar...

So far she really hasn't needed to use much else, her two main challenges for me are McMann again or Cyborg. Holly Holm has to prove herself yet, her mat game could be weak and found out, there's no doubting her striking ability of course... but stick her in there with Rousey this weekend, we all know the out come. She's a year or two away from a title shot (worthwhile challenge to it)

Having Ronda undefeated is definately in UFC's best interest for as long as possible. But Cyborg v Ronda is a big draw

I do think the womens division is a bit shit apart from Ronda

WOW.

That was stunning.

Thank god the ref f@cked up and gave Miller a break on the gut shot thinking it was a low blow, we got to see an amazing headkick KO.

Very disappointed Ryan LaFlare was removed from the card. I suspect the UFC decided that Nelson wasn't the best fight to build his career, but it would have been a great fight.

First time I've seen someone removed from a card without an explanation.

I dont like midweek events. It means avoiding twitter and facebook until i get home from work the next day. I failed, it looked a good night. Nearly all finishes!

Cowboy on a roll. c'mon Nate Diaz that will make a cracking fight and he will earn plenty of cash from it

Im officially nervous about McGregor on Saturday. What a huge let down it will be for everyone if he loses

He is quite the character, and I understand why some dont like him. But UFC needs characters like this IMO. Has anyone seen his interview with Arial Hewani from yesterday? He is bat shit crazy

I'm thinking a Gunnar Nelson/Norman Parke multiplier is the attractive bet of this next card.

Here is Proctor's hematoma:

I dunno, sure they fought before and Nate humiliated him!

Cerrone vs Khabib sounds good to me.

Yea watched it, great wasn't it? Or at least I thought so anyway.

Not sure, I really want McGregor to win and I guess it depends if Brandao can keep his composure and not run out of gas in the first round. I think TKO by Conor though.
