The MMA thread

Jones legs (relative to the rest of him) look skinny so I have little doubt that he could bulk up to fight at hw, however to become a large hw would take a lot of time to add say 30lbs muscle mass (legally anyway)

I just googled "jon jones to heavyweight?" and this came up:

http://www.mmafighting.com/2013/11/...rfight-cain-velasquez-ufc-dana-white-mma-news

While fans have long campaigned to see him face former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva in some capacity, light heavyweight champion Jon Jones seems to be moving in another direction. Answering fan questions at an event in Toronto, Jones opened up on plans for moving to heavyweight and eventually facing champion Cain Velasquez.

"Yea, definitely. I think that's going to happen within the next two years," says Jones. "I'll go up to heavyweight, permanently. But I am looking to take a superfight sooner or later, within the next year. I'm excited for it. I've been really thinking about me and Cain Velasquez going at it. I think it'd be huge for the sport. He's definitely the toughest guy in the division and he's not that big so I think it'd be a really entertaining fight. Don't be surprised if you see that sooner or later."

Currently walking around at about 230 pounds, Jones says he's not far off the mark from making the move. "I would gain about 10 pounds of muscle and compete with him [Velasquez] around 240lbs."

At 6'4, Jones already enjoys a sizable reach advantage at 84.5 inches compared to Velasquez at 77 inches standing 6'1. Measurables aren't everything, but we all know how much size matters to the UFC.Simple spoiler

It seems it's something Jones has been thinking for a while...

Ufc coming to Dublin in July

Only match so far is Ian McCall vs brad Pickett

My mates' wedding is on that night. Feck. Would it be rude not to go???

There have been a few more added.

Gunni Nelson v Ryan Laflare
Tom Lawlor v Itir Latifi
Cody Donovan v Nikita Krylov
Phil Harris v Neil Seery

And it's expected Conor McGregor will fight Cole Miller. McGregor has been tweeting about revealing some news himself soon so I expect it to be that.

Pickett v McCall could be awesome. I'm a big fan of Gunni Nelson also, it could be a fantastic event.

Is that confirmed? Been a big campaign to get him on the card in Dublin. He trains out of the same gym as McGregor (SBG). Be great if it worked but I thought I saw his name down for a different UFC event.

Sweet. A friend of mine trains out of the same gym. Probably be heading along with a bunch of them to the event. Should be fun.

It'll be a great event, especially if McGregor is fighting. The atmosphere will be unreal and the card looks pretty good for a fight night event in Dublin.

Some cracking finishes on Saturday night, great fights from top to bottom!!! One of my favorite PPVs, usually happens when Jones fights oddly enough!!

You missed the best finish of the night however
Chris Beale!! :)

Gotta say, I'm a bit disappointed with the Dublin card... don't get me wrong, some decent fighters on it, But McGregor headlining after only 2 UFC fights is crazy!! Co Main at best!!

6 Fights confirmed so far, London had 9 fights in total..So we may still get 2 or 3 more fights!

There could not be a bigger headliner in Dublin than McGregor. If it were anyone else he obviously wouldn't be headlining! Dublin is going to make the UFC bundles of cash. It's not a PPV. The card so far is as good as you'd get in a place like Dublin.

Would you mind spoilering or removing multiple gifs when you quote them, slows the page down something fierce. Thanks!

The Beal gif is on the previous page.

Dont get me wrong there are some good fighters on the card, just like to see at least 1 house hold name... I saw on bleacher report that Brendan Schaub wants to fight Arlovski on his return fight.......One can dream can't they!!

Jaysus!!

McGregors ego has gone off the charts, into outter space and entered another f'n galaxy all together at this point!!
After hearing this ridiculous, disrespectful "interview" on the MMA hour I'd love to see Cole Miller knock him out Cold!! Might shut him up and beat some respect into him then going forward!!

Ps... its the 2nd video in the link, goes directly to the interview with Conor & Cole!

It's all part of his game, and it makes him a lot more interesting than Cole Millar. He did similar stuff to Brimage (although not so extreme) to get into his head and it worked. Even did it a bit to Max Holloway. But now that he's in a main event, after two fights which is fecking impressive either way, he will of course ramp it up even further. I hope he keeps winning and winning, it's funny how much it pisses everyone off. Humble, quiet guys don't get very far in the UFC or well paid unless you're a world beater and McGregor most likely isn't so he may as wel make the most of his time and make as much noise as possible.

Im all for a bit of trash talk but the kid has humiliated himself there in that interview if you ask me... a number of Irish fans seems to be getting sick of him already, theres a thread on boards.ie and half the guys on it are hoping he gets knocked out cold! I'm one of them!! There's trash talk and then there is being disrespectful like he was here...

I just think he's a bit thick. He's trying to do the whole Muhammed Ali shtick but isn't quick-witted enough to pull it off and comes out of it sounding like a knob.

No biggy, though. It sells fights regardless and nobody ever said fighters had to be as good with their mouth as they are with their hands and feet.

great performance from Brown, but im a bit disappointed with Silva...

i mean, big heart and big chin, but couldn't find a way to prevent or solve Brown punishment at all.

I'm no expert at MMA or anything and I know he must have been exhausted, but why didn't Silva try throwing more body shots or body kicks at Brown? He was obviously hurt every time he touched him there.

Jeez, I've not seen this Brown v Silva fight yet but DEFO gonna put it on now! Sounds like a cracking fight!! :)

It was Silva get dismantled for two and a half rounds. Started the fight great and had half a great round and couldn't finish Brown on the ground. From there on it was nothing more than Brown teeing off on him. Silva is a warrior for taking the beating he did but his conditioning was an absolute joke. I honestly wanted it to be stopped way before it was, he was taking a serious amount of shots and looked out of it way before it finally got stopped. There's being a warrior and taking a beating and then coming to the realisation that it's fecking dangerous taking a beating like that.

Yeah he took a helluva beating alright!! I think he had serious concussion, soon find out from the post fight doc reports... I'd like to think Silva would of put up a better fight than he did!

Silva has no defense, I found it boring to watch him get dismantled, he never offered anything after the initial kick and submission attempt.

Silva is a good fighter, honestly think he had a concussion! He would of put up a better fight otherwise! Overall the card wasn't great really! Cruickshanks finish was great though! :)

That would make sense because he was shockingly non-offensive, and the punches he threw were weak, he looked winded on top, but if he was basically out on his feet that would definitely explain all of it.

Brown looked great besides his stomach obviously, hope that isn't a weakness for him and Silva just caught him.
