The MMA thread

Two disappointing main events, I still somehow get myself suckered into the hype, feel a bit bad for McMann, looked like it could have been a good fight, but when you get kneed that hard on the liver there isn't much you can do, Cummings on the other hand shouldn't have been there, he's got the credentials of someone who should have been on the ultimate fighter not the co main on a numbered event.

And that's why Ronda is unstoppable. And people actually questioned her stand up

She got dominated striking. That fight was hardly a domination. It was a one hitter quitter and those are not always domination.

She got blasted when she tried to trade. Went into full panic mode, attempted TWO take downs got stuffed on both. Began trading knees with McMann, and elbows for punches. Caught her with a good knee and dropped her.

While technically the stoppage was "ok", if every fight where one fighter is rocked and has a momentary lapse in defending themselves was stopped we'd miss out on a lot of great fights.

Calling Rousey McMann domination is like calling JDS Cain 1 domination, or GSP Serra 1 domination. She won, but it was hardly dominating nor was it convincing. If I'm Ronda I'm more than a little concerned with a rematch down the road. Ronda may very well win a rematch, the point is that fight answered more questions about McMann than it did about Rousey.

It showed;

1) McMann can defend at least SOME takedowns.
2) McMann's striking is LIGHT YEARS beyond Rouseys.
3) She is more technical and has faster hands and hits way harder.
4) Her clinch striking is perhaps suspect.

20 seconds or so into the fight Rousey wanted none of what McMann was dishing in the striking game. I personally look forward to a rematch down the road, I think it will be a tremendous fight.

I'm not even sure what you're going on about with this domination thing? You do realise I didn't once say domination in my post Nucks?

That said, that's genuinely one of the most bizarre posts I've read on here. And there's been a lot, believe me mate.

Umm, Ok.

"unstoppable, questioned her standup"

You are implying domination by using the word unstoppable. You are suggesting her stand up was good by laughing at people who questioned her standup.

Her standup was not good. So people who questioned her standup are correct, and will remain correct until she actually outstrikes someone.

I guess you didn't realize what you were typing because my reply to you, while perhaps lengthy was not a personal attack nor was it out of place. It addressed you saying "unstoppable" and suggesting her striking was something other than passable.

Speaking of strange posts, your reply to me is that. You're replying to me like my post has nothing to do with what you wrote. It clearly addresses the two points you made. You're right, unstoppable isn't domination, but when you say someone looked UNSTOPPABLE after a fight, the implication IS domination.

Unstoppable to the women in MMA. That's not even mentioning her stand up there. Right now, she does look unstoppable. The only legit contenders left right now at Zingano or Cyborg.

Her stand up has improved massively and I'm not even getting into a debate because like I said, your last post was beyond bizarre when you're questioning her stand up after she's trained with world class boxing females and proved that in terms of females, her striking has now risen to a higher level. People did question her stand up, saying she was a one trick pony with the arm bar. So here she studies McMann and takes her out with a liver shot, which she trained to do. It wasn't a fluke shot, it was a planned attack.

So let's see. Rousey destroys everybody with the arm bar. She then takes on Tate and basically dominates her for every round the fight lasts, even taking some shots. So by the end of that one we knew she had a submission that nobody was able to stop to date, her conditioning was quality and she could take shots as well. She comes into this and gives us the final piece by showing she can also beat top class opponents on her feet. That's the total package. People have an agenda with disliking the woman. Some will love her and some with hate her, to me it's bizarre though when anybody questions how incredible she is in terms of talent.

Following the Nevada State Athletic Commision decision to ban any use of testosterone by athletes, including TRT (Testosterone Replacement Therapy), Vitor Belfort decided to withdraw from his title fight against UFC middleweight champion, Chris Weidman.

The Brazilian fighter released the following statement late this Thursday: “The Nevada State Athletic Commission recently altered its policy and no longer will permit testosterone use exemptions, and will not permit a TRT program. As other jurisdictions may follow suit, I am going to drop my TRT program and compete in MMA without it. Given the time constraints involved between now and my proposed next bout in May, I have determined not to apply for a license to fight in Nevada at this time.”

In his place, the UFC called upon fellow countryman Lyoto Machida to fight for the belt.

UFC 173 takes place next May 24 at MGM Grand Garden Arena, in Las Vegas.

HOLY SHIT!

The fight I want to see. Machida win's this and if he does feck me it'll be interesting if Silva returns later this year. Machida/Silva is a true dream fight.

Belfort will get the winner of Machida vs. Weidman, according to Belfort's fb page.

"I never gave up on UFC 173 fight and never said that. Any information about it in the media is not true. What I said was that I'll ‘quit on TRT,' and not ‘quit on the fight,' to continue my dream to fight. The UFC has decided to put another opponent in my place because of the fact that I won't have time to suit NSAC's new rules. According to the UFC, I will fight the winner of Weidman vs. Lyoto under the athletic commission new rules. I'm sorry that it happened and I appreciate the strength and understanding of all the fans, sponsors, UFC and the athletic commissions."

I actually think Machida has more of a chance to win against Weidman than Vitor did. Will be a great matchup.

Haha. The fight would be in Brazil and Brazil's commission is going to let him juice.

I am glad this TRT debate is put to bed but part of me wanted to see what a juiced up T-Rex is capable of doing against Weidman.

LOL, Michael Bisping tweeted: "So TRT is now officially banned in Nevada. U could argue I only have one loss on my record. After I beat Kennedy I want my shot at the title."

TRT ban or not, UFC 100 knockout will still play at every highlight reel.

Agree 100%, I'm excited to see if Weidman can deal with his strange style, and of course his amazing quality. Machida will have to have a great fight, no performances like he had against Phil Davis.

Bisping knows he's not title quality. Good fighter, just not elite.

Yeah, if he wasn't in violation he'd surely share the results of the test, to combat the image some have of him as a cheater/rule bender.

As I read somewhere else, the idea is that fighters will use TRT is excessive amounts in training to get ripped then taper down for the fight so they don't register too high of a count. So if Belfort showed that excessively high TRT level mid-training we'd know he was cheating the system.

Silva will not fight machida and vice versa... they are friends and have said before they just wont do it.

if silva comes back and machida is mw champ I wouldnt be surprised to see silva take a lhw fight

Machida has already said he'd fight Silva if it came down to it. At other times he's said no chance though and Silva in particular said he'd never fight Machida.

Hugely possible it doesn't ever happen but I also wouldn't completely rule it out. If Machida won the title then you never know, though I'd expect it won't happen.

For Machida to come out and say he would now be willing to fight Anderson, considering them being long-time training partners, I suspect he talked it over with Anderson already and Anderson is also willing to fight.
