The MMA thread

I'm after switching over to Firefox Pat and my stream is smooth again. I seem to get the same issues (jumpy, buffering) on sky go when I use chrome ( most streams really).

Thanks Mick.

Thought it was a good fight myself. In terms of rankings neither would look out of place against the likes of Schaub so feck it. Top twenty level and exciting as feck? Win.

The UFC VP of Business and Legal Affairs, Mike Mersch, apparently went to Nick Diaz just before weigh ins and told him the Montreal commission didn't count decimals so he & GSP could weigh as much as 170.9 and not have to make 170. Also told him they would have an extra hour to weigh in. Someone in Diaz' camp video taped the conversation and UFC made them remove it but here is a written account of what happened:

I've never heard anything like that and think is is dirty BS. When Carlos Condit was asked if he was told about the allowance when he fought GSP at UFC 154 in the same place he said he never heard of it. How do you tell a main event fighter in a title fight that he (and more importantly, his bigger, hometown opponent) don't actually have to make 170 after he's done his weight cut. Do I think it affected outcome? Of course not. GSP beats Diaz 10 times out of 10 but it stinks of corruption.

Just saw this.

The card in Sweden is a total mess at the minute. Don't know what the feck is going on.

Gustaffson got injured a few days ago, a cut above his eyebrow. He said he would still fight no matter what. However, the Swedish Athletic commission said if he did have a cut he wouldn't be allowed to fight. Yesterday, Dana tweeted the fight was still on and the card was the exact same. Then Wanderlei came out and said he'd been offered the fight and he had accepted. Mousasi said this was fine and he would fight Wanderlei or whoever.

Then today, Wanderlei says it was an April Fools joke and he isn't fighting Mousasi. The Swedish Athletic commission just announced about 20 minutes ago that Gustaffson would not be allowed to fight after all. Not sure if there will be a replacement or the card canceled.

Gutted about Mousasi-Gustaffson falling through. This is one of those no-win fights for Mousasi now, much like Cormier's last fight in Strikeforce. Even if he wins easily people will just disparage the quality of opponent.

Woah. Another devastating TUF KO.

Can't help think Dana has been a bit of a dickhead again by messing with the semi final match ups. Have a suspicion there will be an upset.

Yeah, Mousassi has gone from a potential number one contender eliminator to a match that means nothing even if he wins convincingly.

Bubba was a dick anyway. He has had 26 fights already so I didn't really get why he was so scared of fighting Uriah, even after Uriah's first KO.

Yeah, he was being a bit of a girls blouse beforehand. He never gave himself a chance with that attitude.

I really wanted to see Samman vs Hall next week because I think he's shit scared too.

I can just see Samman losing now.

Bubba was beat before he got in the cage, pitiful stuff. Jones must surely regret giving him the wildcard.

It'll be interesting to see Hall in the UFC ( I think they've messed up this season, it looks very obvious that he is going to win), he has been pushed very hard in this season and talk of him being a potential big player in the UFC, but I'll reserve judgement till I see him against a good wrestler.

I think he is a bit too good to be in TUF, he has good pedigree and his two losses have been to high level fighters (Weidmann three years ago and Costa Philippou).

Exactly, the wildcard should have been given Clint Hester or the the guy who fought Uriah in his first fight (the one knocked out by the spinning back kick), he gave him a good fight until that much talked about knockout.

Uriah vs Kelvin in the finale I think, I hope Kelvin or the Samoan guy win the whole thing as the other two are cocks. Uriah will probably win it though.

Good Bellator card on tonight.

Pat Curran (144.7) vs. Shahbulat Shamhalaev (144.7)* - for featherweight title

Magomedrasul Khasbulaev (145.4) vs. Mike Richman (145.1) - featherweight tournament final

Brett Cooper (185.2) vs. Doug Marshall (185.4) - middleweight tournament final

Rick Hawn (170.7) vs. Karo Parisyan (171)

So what is the story with the Irish fellow fighting tomorrow night?

Apparently loads of Irish fans have been slagging off Brimmage on his face book page, which is pretty funny.

I like Brimage, seems like a decent guy and I think he might win. McGregor is good though, from the videos I could find on youtube he seemed like a really exciting fighter and had nice stand up. Hasn't fought anyone close to Brimage's level though.

I didn't realise McGregor was on so early. If anyone finds a video of it, please pm me. I can't find one.

Just noticed that Gary Cook was doing the weigh ins instead of Dana lol, wonder how long it will take the UFC to realise the guy is an idiot

Oh so ESPNs coverage ain't live and I've just found out results of the first 2 fights on the main card.

Terrific.

McGregor appears to be the main focus on the websites and in the press conference following the event.

A lot of interest in him. Seems very humble and happy and hilariously admitting he picked up his dole last week and now as just been handed 60k for fight of the night.

Decent event. Fair play to Latifi, took a lot of punisment and one can only wonder the outcome if he has taken Mousasi down earlier in the fight.

A lot of Americans are going mad over that, that he was on social welfare and then just told them to feck off and that he should be ashamed that he was physically able to work but was on the dole blah, blah, blah.

I spotted that too, i couldn't believe my eyes!.

I had no idea he had joined UFC, he looks so out of place its unbelievable.

Why was he doing the weigh ins?
