The MMA thread

Maybe, maybe not. He seems like a decent guy though. He's a vegan, surprisingly!

Worse than that, he eats only raw foods apparently.

Benson will win this via decision.

I would prefer Nate to win though, there's something endearing and genuine about the nutjob (as opposed to Rory McDonald's really unlikable personality).

I agree. I can't help but like Nate even though he can come across as a right prick at times. Where as McDonald, as talented as he is, seems like a prick rather than just acting like one.

 Just as Nate puts his arms out he gets knocked down. Its a decent fight, thought only one winner.

Not sure if that was tremendous from Benson or shite from Diaz. Probably a little of both.

Diaz needs to quit that vegan nonsense and get some steaks down his neck.

He started eating raw to help his cut to 155. He'd be back to welterweight if he started eating meat

Nate looked shit cuz Henderson had a very smart game-plan and executed it to perfection. He's the stronger fighter and did a great job of closing the distance and using his power to throw Diaz down at will and beat his ass. I was impressed with his defence as well as Nate is very good with submissions. Henderson needed to worry about Nate's boxing and he did what he needed to do beat Diaz up while nullifying Nate's boxing.

Henderson was also smart not to fall for Nate's trashtalking and psychological warfare, something that other fighters fall victim to and can't perform to their standards as a result (e.g. Cerone). Simply too good for Diaz.

MacDonald is a beast, a bit creepy but a killer in the ring. I wonder when/if he'll fight his teammate GSP. I think he'll beat Condit if they meet again; his last fight with Condit was very close and he's a much better fighter now at only 23!

No real upsets there. Sad to see BJ take another beating like that and whilst McDonald is undoubtably a beast I thought he was a bit of a twat for showboating against a guy who he outweighed by so much.

Diaz had nothing for Henderson.

Shogun should be thankful he lost because Jones would beat him worse than he did before.

Did you watch the prelims? Some great KOs on there.

I always believed that Nick Diaz would be a good matchup for GSP, and would probably get his hand raised at the end of the fight. But after seeing Henderson dominate his brother Nate in spectacular fashion the other day, I think that GSP would easily walk away with the win, seeing as they all have roughly the same fight styles.(good stiker/ Jiu Jitsu vs technical striker/good wrestler) I'd love if Nick would prove me wrong in the future but I think GSP is a horrible matchup for him.

That was some dominant performance by Henderson. Gustavsson doesn't look ready for Jones at all by the way. He'd get destroyed. I'd like Thago Silva to face up against a few decent fighters as I think he could be the next best thing in the division. I bet he takes the belt from Jones some day.

Also, did I hear right? Is Jones one of the coaches on the next Ultimate Fighter?

Yes, Jones and Sonnen are the coaches.

Also, Thiago Silva? He got beat rather easily by Gustafsson not that long ago. Personally, I don't think he has much to offer against Jones. Plus in his last 6 fights he's failed two drug tests, lost 3 of them and won 1 against Keith Jardine. I like his style of fighting but he needs to get his shit together or he'll blow it.

Oops, didn't know this. This clears up why he always has that aggressive nutter look on his face. Didn't he just win his last fight spectacularly a few weeks ago though? I'm shit at remembering fights.

 He does look like a scary bastard. One of the drug tests he tested positive for weed, which I think it's stupid they even test for that. The other test he provided a fake sample of urine.

Yea he beat Nedkov, was a good fight finished by a sub from Thiago.

 Thiago Silva has been in the UFC for over 5 years. He's lost against anyone decent he's come up against.

Speaking of scary dudes, quite looking forward to this Lombard and Palhares fight tonight. That should be explosive. Both of those guys are killers and coming off losses with a point to prove. Someone could go home on one leg.

It's a weird one. They will be 10 hours ahead in Queensland.

East Coast USA is 5 hours behind us. West Coast is 8 behind.

So if the event is on at 2am live here on ESPN then they're fighting at 12 noon over there? Odd but I guess the main audience is the US one.

Lombard and Palhares are fighting tonight?? fecking sweeeet, I didn't know that. What time will that start at?

You're a fecking god of a man Philip. Been looking forward to that fight since it was announced but I was somehow oblivious to the fact it was on tonight. I love Palhares inordinately, but this looks like a bad style matchup for him. Lombard looked very lacklustre in his UFC debut, but he can rival Palhares for strength, looks to have the superior striking, and did show superb takedown defence in his last fight.

I found out from Cassius, all thanks to him. Love Palhares as well, he's completely nuts. Look at this, snaps the guy's leg. Skip to 3:30. Also, imagine being restarted with Palhares already having a hold of your ankle, just cruel!

Lombard had a broken sternum or fractured or something wrong with him in that fight with Boetsch, I can't remember now what it was. Apparently that's why he looked so shit. I was raging as well because I'd been telling a mate for weeks he was an explosive fighter.

Just read back and seen that I missed Cassius' post. He's also a god. I remember following that ADCC on Sherdog just to see how Palhares got on...he's crazy. Seems a lovely if somewhat simple fella when not competing, just completely and utterly nuts when he is. I love that style of hyper-aggressive, reckless submission fighting as well. Very few BJJ specialists fight like that, he's more similar to the likes of Barnett in that respect I guess.

 I did the exact same thing. He'd be genuinely terrifying to fight I reckon. Imagine the fear once it goes to the ground and he's got a grip of your leg...unless your Alan Belcher.

 He's a liability alright. I have wondered how the feck he even gets sparring partners? I don't think he even sets out to damage people, he's just retard strong and seemingly completely oblivious to everything when he's fighting.
