The MMA thread

Delighted for the Northern Irish guy...good fighter and seems a nice fella. Less than happy to see Palhares get battered but I'll swiftly hop on the Lombard bandwagon instead. Looked far more explosive and aggressive, and once again showed good takedown defence.

He called out Bisping afterwards. That would actually be a very interesting gauge as to where Lombard actually ranks...Palhares is awesome but was a very favourable style match up for Lombard. Bisping versus good strikers lately has decision wins over Leben and Stann, a KO of Rivera, a narrow loss to Wanderlei and a brutal KO at the hands of Hendo. If he beats Belfort he'll probably have earned a title shot but I dont particularly like him and I'm selfish. i'd much rather see him fight Lombard instead as a title eliminator with the winner getting the winner of Anderson vs Weidman.

That was a fun card, I thought. Really enjoyed it. I'm glad Pearson won as well I like him.

Yea Bisping called him a poison dwarf or something like that  I don't want to see Bisping fight for the title either, he doesn't stand any sort of chance. If he fought Lombard though I can see him getting a decision victory so I'm not sure who I want Lombard to fight next. Him fighting Cung Le could be fun.

Ha. The trouble with Palhares is he's too one dimensional (as terrifying a dimension as it is). He's like a rabbit in headlights when he's up against a good striker. Reminds me of Tito when he had to man up to Chuck eventually.

You think Bisping could outpoint Lombard Phil? Possible but I fancy Lombard to KO him. I see that same hesistancy in the stand up from Bisping that I see in Palhares and Tito albeit to a lesser extent.

Yeah, I'm glad that Pearson won too. There's something inherently cnutish about G-Sot and I haven't watched any TUF lately so that's based only on gut.

I'd say you're right on the money about him. Can't say I was ever fond of him but he seems a cnut

For some reason Henderson's performance over his bro has made me think Nick has no chance at all against GSP.

He doesnt have knockout power and I think this is the only way to beat him.

Should be a good fight anyway.

Really don't see why anyone would want GSP v Diaz, it's not going to be competitive at all. There's a reason why GSP wants to fight Diaz so badly and why he wanted him to beat Condit. It's just a waste of two exciting fighters.

It clearly should have been Hendricks as his style looks like it could genuinely cause some problems for GSP. Put Diaz in with someone like Erick Silva.

Same here but I've been wanting to see this fight for so long that I can't fecking wait for it. Nick will certainly have a good training camp and ditto gameplan going into this fight, knowing GSP is excellent in all aspects.

I'll be rooting for Diaz, even though he acts like a cnut most of the time and I really like GSP as a person. Diaz' fights are just never boring. That weigh in will be more exciting than the majority fights too. :D

Thoughts on Cain vs. JDS?

JDS by unanimous me thinks. I think Cain will put up a better show but Cigano is just too good for anyone right now.

Alistair Overroids aside, Daniel Cormier should be good matchup for the winner.

Is he really that much better?, velasquez was impressive in his last 2 fights.

Ive only caught 1 JDS fight and that was his last, which he was pretty much just toying with the opponent.

My mate does. He loves it. It all depends though on how much you think it's worth it and if you really want to be serious about it.

Yeah, it also takes alot out of you fitness wise. What weight does he fight at? The other down side is going into work even more battered and bruised which wouldn't go down well..

I'd say so, though I also believe Cain has been overrated for a while now. People thought after he defeated Lesnar that he was an unstoppable heavyweight, but JDS is on a completely different level IMO and out matches Cain in almost every department. It also helps that JDS has the best striking in the division too.

Cain will always stand a chance, as does anybody in MMA, but it's tough to see past JDS in this one.

Think it could go either way. I've seen majority of both their ufc fights and both have beaten similar level opponents.

I would say that I would fancy Cain if he can get it past round 2.

UFC 155

That would be my bet.

C'monnnnnn Saturday, I've been waiting for ages now. I've watched the press conference, the media scrums, read the technical breakdowns of each fighter's strengths and weaknesses, I just need this fight to happen already.

I think it's going to be great.

I think Brunson beats Leben, he's the underdog in the bookies. Leben had been training for Karlos Vemola who's primarily a striker and Brunson is a div 2 wrestler, Leben won't be ready. But feck it who knows. Also, I really don't understand how people are picking Lauzon over Miller. I can't see what Lauzon is better at than Miller. I also think Dos Santos takes the main event but its a very tough one to call. Cain can either out grapple JDS for 25 minutes, or JDS can land one punch and KO him again.

So, I put a tenner on JDS to win via decision at 14/1.

Also, £2 on the following accumulator...
Junior Dos Santos vs Cain Velasquez
Junior Dos Santos @ 8/15
Joe Lauzon vs Jim Miller
Jim Miller @ 4/9
Tim Boetsch vs Constantinos Philippou
Tim Boetsch @ 4/5
Yushin Okami vs Alan Belcher
Yushin Okami @ 4/5
Chris Leben v Derek Brunson
Chris Leben @ 8/13
Brad Pickett vs Eddie Winelend
Eddie Winelend @ 4/5
Byron Bloodworth vs Erik Perez
Erik Perez @ 2/9
Jamie Varner v Melvin Guillard
Melvin Guillard @ 4/6
Michael Johnson vs Myles Jury
Michael Johnson @ 4/11
Todd Duffee vs Phil de Fries
Todd Duffee @ 2/7

How much does that get? I'm really regretting doing my multiple and selecting Brunson over Leben. Might put another fiver on it except change Brunson to Leben.

Also why is it Joe Rogan and Jon Anik commentating?? Where's Goldberg? Hate Anik.
