The MMA thread

Obvious fight is Paddy vs Topuria now. Beef already there and a deserved step up for Paddy.

Oh by the way Topuria absolutely destroys him, and thats a featherweight. Top 20 is realistically the limit for him.

That's why I'm a bit baffled by the reactions he gets, talent wise he doesn't really seem in the top tier yet it's not stopped him being talked about as a potential champ, and his personality is just a brash scouser with a quirky hairdo but he's got this weird buzz around him, I dunno maybe I'm just a miserable sod.

Definitely gives off that early McGregor vibes, let's see how he does stepping up opponent levels.

Absolutely no where near the ability that Conor had. Conor was an already top 5 striker in MMA coming into the UFC. Paddy has no skill near that as far as I can see. Even his grappling (his supposed strength) is nothing compared to guys not even ranked int he top 10 at lightweight. Great personality though.

Nah you're dead right. He's toast the minute he fights anyone who is not a can. Hell he got the shit beat out of him by one in his first fight by one, before the finish. Compare that to Conor who was actually a top tier talent and an absolutely elite striker.

Paddy is a great showman, can't deny that. Guaranteed entertainment.

Definitely! I certainly don't mean to come off as not liking him. I don't think he is a 'top' talent but no doubt he is super entertainment and a real tough lad.

I really like that these British fighters are being interviewed by the OG of British MMA.

I think he could take Topuria. Topuria looked rather vulnerable against Herbert. Paddy has a tough chin.

Really? I haven’t seen a ton of him but he seems like a knob

To be fair Topuria is a featherweight and almost literally half the size of Herbert. Herbert is a much much better striker than Paddy and I just doubt Paddy's ability to get it to the ground and even there I think Topuria would survive. What I could see is Paddy having the chin to take an absolute beating and maybe sneaking a win. I'd say I'd give a 5% chance of that though. For me Topuria is just the much better fighter technically.

I think Topuria should be wary of continuing in lightweight if he has that aspiration. Should probably stick to FW for a while.

 when I say 'great' personality I mean it in the fighter sense, like Conor is. To be honest someone like Robert Whittaker should be the 'ideal' personality. An absolute animal who is very respectful but in fighting sense its the 'knob' who stands out. It's like how AJ is just a much better guy that Tyson Fury but Fury is considered the 'personality'.

Oh yeah 100% agree. He has no business being at that weight class and would be destroyed by the better fighters in the division. He literally looked half the size of Herbert!

Yeah I agree.
Feels like he's stuck being one of those regular punching bags of the UFC like Cowboy Oliveira, especially if he tries to stick it out in this weight class.

Yeah unfortunately for him because I really like him and he's definitely come close in some big fights like against Dustin. Just seems to fall short too much to be amongst the contenders.

Did anyone watch wwf in the 80’s when the evil Russian Nikoli Volkoff versus the American hero Hulk Hogan. It’s like that in a way

I’m just waiting for Mr Fuji to throw a sneaky chair into the mix
