The thing that I think is annoying me the most is how many fecking rocks you have to break through in the caves. Surely one or two hits with a crusher sword or a bomb should do it, but I'm going through multiple weapons and dozens of bomb flowers just to get to another bit of cave because of the amount of times you have to hit the rocks. There's absolutely no need for them to have made it like that given how easy it is to break weapons in this game.

Luckily one of the caves I was in (I won’t say) had plenty of rocks on the ground to fuse with and plenty of run of the mill swords throughout. Agree however it is slightly annoying breaking a sword for every rock wall you get through.

Yeah the rock walls themselves tend to drop rocks and weapons so you generally don't run out. I've been hesitant to use my bomb flowers as I was worried I'd run out at one point.

Yes I've only sold gems to the gerudo in Goron City as I never know what to save for armour upgrades. Sounds like that was a decent choice.
Some of the best weapons in the game will require multiples of the higher end gems. So my advice would be consider that before you sell all the rarer gems as well even though they are the best way to get cash pretty much.

Same with upgrading armor. Some of the stronger ones need them. Its a good way of making money early in the game but after a point you want to start keeping them
I've done three phenomena now. I think the main thing putting me off doing the fourth is having to hear the same story and essentially the same cutscenes for a fourth time.
I’m 105 hours in and I’ve still barely visited any of Faron, Gerudo, Gerudo Highlands, Hyrule Forest or much of Tabantha. Also only cleared about a third of the depths. I only literally did Lurelin Village today.
Found the starting point from BOTW. Went into the Temple of Time and climbed the roof. Said to myself “ah this is where you speak to the King in BOTW” and then opened to chest to get ‘nostalgic fabric’
Finished it yesterday.
Had done more or less everything else before i went back to last boss. I've lost about a month + to a great game. There's annoying quirks and ropy controls and the sages dont really work (i turned most of them off) but i still think its a 10/10 game. I dont know what is if this doesn't qualify.
I'll go pick a fight with the King Gleeok and might have to google a couple of things which i just cant figure out (the last ancient text) but i think i'm as close to finished as i'm going to get. Maybe i could do half a dozen shrines i skipped.
Think it addressed some of the BotW criticism reasonably well. Still not strong points but improved. In terms of story the sage scenes are all too long winded and badly acted. I liked the tears scenes a lot though. Improved the dungeons / temples over the divine beasts of the last game. Fuse is quite fun and has a lot of variety in terms of the weapons breaking. These things didn't bother me much in the first place though. I loved pretty much everything about BotW. Its a good sequel but the same formula as previous game. It wont change anyones mind about how good that is.
Ganondorf dragon fight was AMAZING, such a great end to the game

I'm just in the middle of the death mountain one and not enjoying this bit at all. It's needlessly difficult to get around and I'm constantly falling out of the damn carts due to a tiny bit of stick drift.

I found that one to be the most boring one honestly. Air temple which I did first was my fav one overall.
I still haven't bothered to go do the final boss even though storywise that is where I am maybe this weekend. I went to do the substitute teacher side quests and started farming last I was on the other day.
I’ve literally only just realised every lightroot is the shrine name in reverse. Also you can just follow the map of the surface to navigate the depths easier.

I'm having bouts of anxiety over finishing this game someday, probably sooner rather than later. I'm on 45 hours with only one phenomena completed but already on 75 shrines and with majority of the map visited.
It's the best game I've ever played and has engrossed me completely over the last 4 weeks. I don't want this to ever end, I think I'm just going to roam around all week and only do one phenomena per week + a couple of side quests.
Eh, 8 or 9 years old is probably about when I was playing the shit out of Ocarina of time/wind Waker/Majora's mask. Majoras mask was tough and confusing, but that was far more confusing than BotW or ToTK. And the dungeons in those were more difficult than these shrines. I'd say he's good to try... Might be a bit too tough, but 8 years old isn't far off for sure (it's rated for 10+, 9 would be fine, depends on the kid though).

Yeah, I kept putting it off. I did end up wandering around doing nothing in particular for a couple of hours last night despite being finished. Theres still some life left in it.

Think there's 150+ shrines so you aren't that close with them! Also not sure if it exactly lines up, but think the depths roots are in the same location as the shrines above? Not sure if it counts sky lands and main land, or just main land for that.

Are you guys doing the sage upgrade tasks? I have only done one upgrade so far. They don't seem straightforward really like a natural progression plan you have to actively look for the tasks it seems. I dont know if it actually does anything either.
I can see myself not bothering with the rest of those unless I come across them doing other things.

Tulin is so bad for shooting my octorocks before they upgrade my stuff. I legit have to run him around a corner and peek slowly make sure he's gone and not in range

Yeah. I found having all of them out was just too much visual noise for not enough value. I left Tulin on and swapped one other in or out depending on what i was doing or where i was.

I probably use him more than any of the others. I like fire. But yeah the most potentially disruptive. Launching gems into orbit is my bugbear with him.
Most are just generally helpful and dont hurt. Whistling just isn't responsive enough for them to be reliably available though. They're manageable when its 1 or 2. Its just chaos when theres 5 and your randomly firing off effects by mistake. Yunobo and Tulin are probably the main problem for being irritating, they're the most useful too though.
I'm beginning to actually like the Depths. They are not well designed, they have by far worse graphics than land and sky but there's some genuine novelty in discovering it and finding new places after shooting up brightbloom seeds all over the place. I like the concept a lot, it could have been executed better but still makes for a decent experience in its current form.
