Gaming The Legend of Zelda | Earthquake: "It's actually ridiculously good, and keeps getting better." ★★★★★

It sucks man I mean you have to concentrate and try not to die cause if you do you go back a bit and have to walk through again it's so stupid why can't it just reload where you're at for god sake

 That's a good thing!

That's one of the reasons why retro games are good, because when you've completed one, most of the time you feel like you've accomplished something.

But I will say that when I was playing Secret of Mana, I was about five hours in and had to start from the very beginning. That was really annoying. Though it happened because I accidentally knocked the cart and the saved game deleted/corrupted, so perhaps it was more my fault that the game's TBF.

Yeah don't worry I was joking. Every time I go back to an old game it takes me a while to remember I can't just look away whenever I see an alert/notification/text whatever - even though it had a pause button (who uses them anymore).

It still looks good by the way, over 20 years on. Mental. I'm out of the sewers after the first castle but I feel like I left loads behind and missed shit out.

That's the bit where you save Zelda, and the Sage says he'll hide her isn't it? That's the bit you just completed?

Yeah she was hidden by some ball & chain guy and then I had to take her to the Sage. Just left there.

Anyone else think Playstation should try to negotiate the rights to Zelda and develop a game for the PS4?

I'm stuck after having found three of the crystals, but i'm sure i'll figure it out. I always have so far.

I'm playing the CDi game Link: The Faces of Evil right now and it's brilliant, just as I remembered.
I'm stuck after having found three of the crystals, but i'm sure i'll figure it out. I always have so far.

So it's good? I always thought the CDi games were known to be terrible. Maybe just because they're different to the "proper" Zeldas?

No, I'm stuck on LttP... which i'm playing at the same time.

Bear in mind 99.9% of people who judge the CDi games haven't actually played them, and most of the few that have, have done so on the only emulator available, which happens to be awful. My experience with the Link and Zelda games (not the top-down one, the platformer ones) was fantastic. I would urge you to look at the screenshots; all the backgrounds were hand-drawn and look beautiful, and listen to the music, which is awesome. The gameplay is just average, but not bad like consensus would have you believe. What are terrible are the cutscenes; the company flew in some Russian animators to save money, and they did a hilariously bad job, but to be fair to them, I think they were completely out of their depth.

It isn't just me who thinks this way either: http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/zeldacdi/zeldacdi.htm

The problem as I mentioned is the only emulator available is laggy and only supports mouse input, which makes the game incredibly challenging, I mean virtually impossible. But i'm struggling through for the sake of nostalgia, since I spent a lot of my childhood playing the original 2 on my CDi. It really infuriates me to hear Zelda fans pretending like they aren't real Zelda games. Actually I think you should try to play them before judging, personally.

Ah right, it's good to know they aren't that bad then. I haven't heard any of the music yet but I agree the background looks nice. As much as I like him, I think I should try not to take opinions on games from AVGN episodes too seriously

It's a shame the emulator is crap, since the games are really expensive on eBay, so it doesn't look like I'll be able to try them out.

Turtle Rock was amazing. Glad I've finished it though.

It really is an incredible game. I can't believe how well its held up.

Looks so good! I can see I'm going to end up getting a freaking wii u

Me too, I fecked off my PS4 to finance a new phone. When I'm getting another console it will be the Wii-U (or the next one) as PlayStation didn't really give me much joy.

Yeah I got a wii-u last week, but the Missus has bagged most of the gaming time on it :(

It's great, I really like it. If I had to moan, I'd say Mario Kart 8 and Mario 3D world are little more than updates to the 3DS games, but they are excellent fun.

Playing Ocarina of time. It is my first Zelda game.

Just defeated the first boss. It looks magical, though quite hard. There is a puzzle every 5 meters.

 wasn't that long ago you played your first FF and now this!
Yay. I played early in 2013, FF 4, 6, 7, 8 and 9. Haven't played any since then.

This seems far more difficult to adapt than any FF game I've played.

Hmm, I haven't finished my playthrough of OOT 3D. Nor my LTTP one actually...
I'm the same. Haven't played my Majora's Mask 3DS either. Don't know why I keep buying games I never play

Same

I was very happy when they announced they would re release it as it is my favourite zelda game, but I never got around to it

This thread has inspired me to start it tomorrow....maybe

Un-fecking-believable.
Remember discussing with you for FF back then.

Anyway, I was able to play FF for many hours a day. Zelda is tiring more than relaxing me. Still, finding it great though.

Finished the second dungeon, now in Zora's domain.

It is bloody fantastic, one of the best games I've ever played. I am feeling like a kid, no game bar FF7 have made me feel this way recently.
