I hadn't checked if it was on there yet - I saw an article yesterday saying it's released December 16th. Is it playable or unlocks on the 16th?
Ah OK maybe I just saw it but it was on pre order.

I've heard it's a port of the console versions which apparently aren't great. I might still get it though.

Best.
Game.
Ever.

"For many years, people around the world have asked me “Will you ever remake FINAL FANTASY VII?” For many years I gave the same answers and on a personal level, having made the original FINAL FANTASY VII, did I really want to spend so many years making the same game again?
With FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE, we have the opportunity to go beyond the story, world and experience of FINAL FANTASY VII in ways we’ve always dreamed of - from the depths of Midgar to the skies above the Planet. The multi-part format enables us to expand the original story and turn it into an epic experience for fans and new gamers alike.

This past weekend at PlayStation Experience we were thrilled to present more of FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE. It was great to see so much excitement when we surprised everyone with the first gameplay footage and it was a treat for us to show that development is going well, and further along than perhaps many had realised. Just like when we revealed the announcement trailer at E3 earlier this year, we like surprising you.
One thing that we wanted to be clear about during this weekend to accompany the new trailer was the scale of this project. We wanted to tell you this now and not in the future so that you’d share our vision for what we want to deliver.
The biggest reason why we haven’t done a remake until now is because it’s a massive undertaking to reconstruct FINAL FANTASY VII from the ground up with the current technology. Producing a proper HD remake of FINAL FANTASY VII that maintains the same feeling of density of the original would result in a volume of content that couldn’t possibly fit into one instalment.
We’ve seen everyone’s comments and reactions to the news that FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE will be a multi-part series and many have speculated correctly as to the reason why we have made this decision. If we were to try to fit everything from the original into one remake instalment, we would have to cut various parts and create a condensed version of FINAL FANTASY VII. We knew none of you would have wanted that.
I hope that by explaining a little more about our design decisions that you can appreciate the size of this project and what we have planned for this remake. Going beyond the scale and depth of the world, narrative and gameplay from the original to deliver something that feels familiar yet new. As I said before, we like delivering surprises. :)

See you all soon and Happy Holidays!
Yoshinori Kitase"

I really don't mind the Episodic release plan if they really do want to go all out and have it fully realised rather than a watered down one game version. As long as the releases are in good time, say 1-2 years apart, have plenty of content and no more than 4 games. I think three would be the perfect number as that's how many discs were in the original.

Ever.

The console version is the original version, so I don't know why that would be a bad thing!

It's the port of the iOS/Android version. That means phone like UI, and a terrible new character models... BUT! There's more content than in any other version of the game. It would be the definitive version if not for the art.

Still, VI is my fave, and I'll be playing this on day one.

I've been playing through the new PSN remastered version of VII the past month. Finally got my gold chocobo last night, now just to grind and master material till I beat Ruby and Emerald (then a new playthrough to get the date with Barret for the Platinum trophy).

The ability to speed everything up x3 is great and will be a godsend for IX if they ever do the same treatment to that.

Final Fantasy IX is getting a PC release in early 2016.

Probably my favourite game of all time. It is perfection

IX is great... Just needs the combat to be a little bit faster in the PAL version.

I'm furious. I finally bothered to set an emulator up on my laptop to play it and I'm around halfway through disc 2 and they fecking announce this. I could have waited a couple of months and got it with the higher speed and no random encounters shit (though tbf I don't mind the random encounters as they're good for AP).

It's the fact that I'd been putting it off for months out of sheer laziness and when I finally do it a better, less hassle version will be officially released. I'm far enough into the game that I cba to start again.

I'm such a cnut. Vent done.

Definitely one of the greatest soundtracks of all time in video games. Have it right there with Terra's and Aerith's theme as the best ones in the series.

If I am not mistaken, you hear it only three times in the entire game, right?

Two or three, agree with you too, it's right up there, both soundtrack and song.

I always liked this track from IX

It is a great game, it's just the speed of battles that let it down. Hopeully it gets the same treatment as VII, the x3 option in VII is awesome. I managed to master every materia (including KOTR) in a couple of hours against the Magic Pots and Bouncers yesterday.

Yeah you can use the analogue sticks. I have no complaints about the remaster at all.

Have they fecked the soundtrack up by replacing them with midi tracks like the others when they were brought out for pc?

I haven't played the PC version so I went to youtube to check and listened to this

 Wow, the PC version is brutal. This PS4 remaster is definitey the originals, I've got it playing in the background as I listened.

Bloody awful isn't it? I found a mod to change the tracks to the originals when I first bought it a few years ago, but I've re-installed windows since and can't find it again

Would it be an outlandish request for a mod to add poll to this thread?

Would be good to see which game ranks where among everyone.

Nearly 4000 posts now

Jesus fecking titty christ! I never expected the PC version to be that awful......

Voted VI, but I can't overstate how close IX is to it. The end of that game had me crying like a little girl.

That's not a bad list, honestly. Probably contradicting myself from a few pages back, but...

VI >= IX > VII >= IV > V > X-2 > I > Rest.

I is a good game for the time. No story, but very replayable because of being able to build a party from the start. The NES version with 4 white mages is one hell of a challenge.

II is forgettable, but amazing for a game made in... 1989? I can't remember. III is just II again.

VIII & X I don't really like. X-2 I have a soft spot for, though... It's just so happily cheesy & ridiculous with a great combat system that I can't really hate it at all.

XII & XIII... No.

It's the characters I couldn't deal with :D Since IX, the characters of FF have disappointed me to say the least. Auron is kinda cool in X, and Lightning's visual design is at least great (even if her character is dull as hell).

8 because it's the first one I played.

8 > 6 > 9 > 7 > 10 > 12 >>>>>>> 13 of ones I've played.

I don't think any of the games I mention either are bad. I like 12.

8 > 9 > 6 > 12 > 7 > 4 (Personal preference)

9 > 6 > 7 > 8 > 4 > 12 (Objectively speaking)

8 is my first choice as it was the first one I played as well but it has its own set of flaws that prevent it from being the best Final Fantasy, an awfully convoluted main story to start with. Its like the writers decided to focus mainly on the romance between Squall and Rinoa (sp?) instead of the main plot, in some ways you can argue that their romance is the main plot.

VII >= VI > IX > IV >= VIII from those I have played.

Voted VII but really there is no difference between it and VI. If I had played VI before VII, maybe I would have voted differently.

I've completed all the mainline single player entries and I'd say

VII > X > IV > VI > IX > V > VIII > XII > III > I > II > XIII

That's right Final Fantasy XIII, even II is better than you and your shitty tunnels.

X-2 and XIII-2 are OK, they'd be between VIII and XII.

XII >= VII > VIII > IX > X > VI >>>> XIII

Out of 1 to 5, 4 is my favourite. Wasn't mad about the others as there's a lack of a decent story, and the combat is a bit meh these days.

Tough choice between 12 and 7 for top spot. I loved the gambit system in 12, I don't think people gave it much of a chance because of the change from the usual turn based system. One of my favourite musical scores in a game too. The esper battle theme is . Loved everything about 7 too so not much between them.

8 is next more for nostalgia than anything else. When I play it now I can see how flawed the leveling system was and how easy it actually is. Was obsessed with it as a kid though.

9 is next which is one of the few I haven't actually played through again in the last few years. Decided I'm going to play it again today :D.

Loved 10 too, more for the story and the idea of Sin than anything else. Some of the characters were a bit shit though and the combat was decent enough. 10-2 was poop. I remember being so excited for it when I bought it and couldn't understand why they thought the theme of the game was a good idea! Very disappointing.

6 was decent but don't like is as much as a lot of people seem to do.

13 was fecking terrible. Combat was average, story was confusing as hell and the characters were by far the most annoying out of the whole series. I've read part 2 and 3 are better but I've had zero interest in even trying them.

Roll on 15!!
