I have to come back in this series. Have been planning to play X for almost 2 years but still haven't done that.

playing 13 atm, Who the feck okayed this script ?

You could drive a truck through the gaps in the story, the loading game info snippet is often way ahead of the current plot. I feel like the are just vomiting words at times and if mood whiplash was a real thing, I'd have a broken neck by now.

"People died, much sad, HAHA Look at the Chocobo chick, oh yeah people died :("

I'm on chapter 12, I like to think I pay attention and I literally don't have the foggiest what's going on, I know that time is running low and focus something something, but why the central bag guy is even annoyed, not a clue.

I played 13 through to the end and I don't even have clue anymore what it was about, that tells you enough. The story was dire but it's an award winning script compared to the characters and dialogue. Truly abysmal. Other than that I spent my time being annoyed at the weird level caps. I'm the sort of person that enjoys grinding and overleveling in a JRPG. Perhaps my memory has made it worse than it actual was, but I remember it as an absolutely shocking game on virtually every level.

Hi there, like-minded human.
FF13, 13-2 and 13-3 was all sub-par anything from FF10 and earlier, very much arguably worse than FFXII as well (which at least was enjoyable).

XIII is probably the worst of them ive played. I found it a real chore with no payoff in terms of plot or characters. Battle system was really good, otherwise missing a lot of what makes a good FF game.

Oh yeah now I remember - the battle music was horrendous & you couldnt turn the music down or off. Stupid.

That's an understatement. I consider FFXII an absolute masterpiece in terms of gameplay and sheer size. The game world was vast, incredibly varied and brimming with content. The battle system was fantastic. A less personal story than other FF's and less memorable characters, which makes it a less emotional journey than most FF's. But if you look past that it's a brilliant game.

I completely agree, but FFXII is somewhat hated amongst FF-fans as the game that took the series away from being turn-based (looking past speed attributes and atb-charging).
I found it very enjoyable, just noted down that a lot didn't find it enjoyable at all.

For me FF13, 13-2 & 13-3 are so bad that they shouldn't be considered as the main-games and more a spin-off for when squre-enix was more into working on graphics than a good story with great gameplay.
It's so linear, insanely stricht and generally pathetic compared to the others...

Didn't like 12 at all tbh.
After about 20 hours i started playing it with my foot while reading a book, gave up around the part bahamut showed up because i finished my book.

Am I the only one who prefers the old graphics instead of these almost real settings for Final Fantasy games? It just look more 'fantasy' and you can let your imagination rule.

Also, why did they went away from turn based system fight? :(

Because they're cnuts

I just finished XIII and it's the first Final Fantasy game I ever played. Didn't 100% or anything, did about 1/3 of the missions and it took me 60 hours to beat the game. I don't really understand the hate to be honest, but then again I'm not a long time fan of the series or anything.
The characters and story are silly granted, but the combat system, graphics, music, are all really good IMO. Enjoyed messing about with different strategies in the paradigm system and especially the world / atmosphere is so interesting and beautiful. I had a really good time with it. I'm not a big fan of huge open world games in the ubisoft tradition so I rather enjoyed the semi-linear experience since pacing often suffers if you spend 10 hours before advancing the story.

Now I booted up XIII-2 and it's the worst PC port of a game I've ever seen. Including unmodded Dark Souls, Deadly Premonition etc... I can run something like Dragon Age Inquisition on high at 60 fps, but a fecking 4 year old PS3 port stutters like crazy. Not sure I'll bother with that one.

Just found my old PS2 with FF7 that i'd forgot were in storage. Coincidentally I've got the rest of the week off work too. Time for a little trip down memory lane (Midgar) i think.

With out a doubt 7 is the BEST game i ever played, remember it being on one of the computers you can play in HMV when it first came out, i played it for 3 hours while my dad was shopping haha. Don't think there another game that i played where i connected with the characters and story line like i did with that game.

It looks intriguing and the combat could be fun, but I don't like the camera during battles, with enemies constantly running off the screen and even objects obscuring the view of your enemies sometimes. Maybe the player in that video is incredibly poor at controlling the camera, or it will be a pain. I'll give this game a fair chance in the hope that it's more FFXII than XIII. If it's anywhere near the former, I'll be very pleased.

I would love them to create another "retro" style main FF though. Like they did with FFIX after the pretty unusual FFVIII. Basic but enjoyable battle mechanics, straight forward levelling and a simple equipment-learning ability system. It wouldn't win any originality contests, but SE have a tendency to create overly convoluted and awkward gameplay systems nowadays. It would feel familiar and refreshing at the same time.

Hmmm, read through some of the old discussions on here last night. Forgot how immense this thread is.

Slightly odd was reading back over my own changing opinions of 6, 8 and 10. The more I think of them the less sure I am, heh.

Might have to fire 6 up on the Vita.

FFXV demo is good, considering things will likely be improved upon before release it really looks like we'll get back on track after the god-awful 13-series.
Just found another reason to survive.

Just seen the Ramuh summon on YouTube. Holy shit! This is one of the most epic things I've ever seen in a game. Ive watched this about 20 times in a row.

Spoiler warning! Don't watch if you want to wait to see it in game.
