So I must be the only one that enjoys XIII:LR so far? Battle system is fresh and something different.

The only annoying bit is walking around the wildlands atm and not finding a single quest for about 90 minutes of in game time. I then transport back to the station to maybe try my luck in Yusnaan. There I notice the canvas of prayers in the fecking wildlands train station.

Love Final Fantasy! I replay through a few of them pretty much annually. My favourite is VII by an absolute light-year but honorable mentions to III, V, VI, VIII and IX.

I haven't played many of them past the PSX, well little bits here and there but I find them getting harder and harder to get interested in.

I've played VII and VI hundreds of times, and I still find something new on every play-through.
Last post on the last page. :(

I thought the battle system is pretty much the same except there is only one character in the party.

Favourite characters anyone?

Vincent from FF7 was always an intriguing character. My favourite has to be Faris from V though.

He's not my favourite character by any stretch but I've always found Steiner from FFIX's story interesting. Slowly realising that everything he believes in and served for blindly is unravelling. He also provides much of the abundent humour in that game too. That was the true beauty of that game, perfectly balanced with tragedy and comedy, delieverd at the right times

I need to play that. I had a very short go of it at my friends house when I was much younger, but I didn't get enough time to appreciate the story and generally forgot to play through it. What platforms is it on nowadays? Do I have to dig out the PSX or is there a PC version?

You said earlier that the story was quite shit at 14 hours through. You're still up at 3am! That's what a Final Fantasy game does to you

Believe me, the FFX story becomes amazing

I completed it years ago and it's just crazy. It's actually not very well put together. I've noticed info being repeated, but then tidus acting as it's new info. Also, wakka walked off, then we flew off on snowmobile type things, and suddenly he was back with us.

I was up that long because of the gameplay. I don't remember being where I am at the moment. Battles getting harder. Al bhed using machina to disable my magic sucked!

So which FF do people feel had the best game mechanics? Fights/equipment.etc

I adored the materia system in FF7.
FF7 by far IMO. The amount of possible combination is insane. I once posted here a video of defeating Ruby without using making any move.

FF6 is relatively simple, but still perfectly realized and loved it too. Same about 9, it went back to the roots and was perfectly implemented.

FF8 has a good (and complicated idea) but the process of draining magic from monsers is a bit irritating and very repetitive. You can also exploit it by getting early on the game (from card game) 100 tornado which makes you almost unbeatable.

Only PSX or Vita. It works fine on emulator though.

No PC version unfortunately. You must play IX. It's my favourite game of all time

Agreed Revan, the drawing magic system ruined a damn good story for me.
Yep. The junctioning system was very interesting and I liked it, but draining 100 ultima on that village which means that you have to spend a couple of hours doing that was boring. Also, fighting monsters for half an hour until you get 100 aura or whatever spoiled the fun.

Absolutely, I'm all for a bit of grinding (I find it quite theraputic tbh) but it took it to absurd levels.
Incredibly envious of what you're about to experience
Well, imagine this;

My son is going to play FF7 for the first time this weekend. Lucky bugger.

FFVII's materia, definitely, honourable mention to the semi-regular job system, and FFIX's simple but very effective setup.

Damn it, I wish I could play 7 again for the first time, that and Suikoden.

Does anyone have a link to a FF6 SNES ROM that is in English? I can only find Japanese, and one in French, oddly enough.

PM me, if it violates any rules. I have no idea if emulated obsolete video games are breakin' the law.

Really? You mean I can play vita games on a PS3?!
No, but old PSX games like FFVII. That said, lately many Vita games are getting ported to PS3, and there is that Vita TV thing.

Is it obsolete though? SNES in particular sure, but the game in general is for sale in many formats right now, including that dreadful mobile port.

Anyone remember me saying i was playing FFVII before xmas? I stopped at some point because i had a ton of deadlines coming up and exams and i haven't had a chance to go back to it since. I'll have to get back on it though, now you're all talking FF again it's making me want to play! It's my first time through it too

That's tomorrow afternoon's job i think!

I absolutely do, but then I took a glance through some of those pages before bumping the thread. I did remember anyway, though!

 I thought you might remember!

I don't think i'm all that far in anyway, probably only 2/3/4 hours in so no biggie really. Just annoying as i could have finished it by now and be onto another FF!

Yeah, I read reviews for the Android port. Mostly not-good reviews.

Where else is it available? PSN? I only have Xbox :(
Just download ZSNES and search for FF6. The US version us called Final Fantasy 3 (while FF4 in US is FF2).

If it doesn't work I can send you a link in an hour (when I go home).

I remember. Bastard, playing FF7 for the first time. A fantastic experience.
