Playing through FF13 now (yes, I know everyone hates it) and for a 2009 game, it wouldn't look out of place if it had been released this year. Beautiful graphics. Big fan of the paradigm system which is what keeps me going despite the linear gameplay. Can't wait to see a Final Fantasy game pushing the limits of the PS4

You're a FF fan?

Can anyone explain Limit Breaks to me?

When you get some damage (don't know exactly how much) you have the option of using a limit break instead of a normal attack/spell/defense etc. After you use a few times a limit break (usually 7 times or more) you can use another limit break there. This is for first level limit breaks.

To be able to use the second level limit breaks you have to make some kills (300 or something). Then you get the first second level limit break. If you use it a few times then you can use the secondary second level limit break. Same is for third level limit breaks (though here the number of kills is bigger). For the fourth level you have to find some items.

You can choose which level of limits you gonna use in limit menu from the main menu.

Cheers, FF8 is very complicated for an FF game I must say, I mean most games at level 10 above you're physical damage is usually well above 40 hp!

Also if people what FF6 just get it from the PSN Network on the PS3 (not sure about PS4)

The beauty of FFVIII is that leveling up isn't really priority, similarly to Elder Scrolls games, most monsters are tailored to your level, it's all about getting the right junctions of Summons to your characters and collecting spells to make you more powerful. It does take a bit of getting used to as it's more complex than VII (and far more complex than IX) but it's rewarding in the end. It's also massive, I pumped around 80 hours into doing everything.

It's a very interesting system, just as we know, broken since you can get the best stuff early and become unstoppable. Which can be fun in is own way.

The info he gave you is for 7, in 8 it's just random if your health is in the yellow, though if you flick through the party members it should pop up if it doesn't automatically.

Later you can get a spell that gives you limits if cast on you in battle, called Aura.

Each person has a different way of learning their limits, Zell and Rinoa read them in magazines, though with Rinoa you need to walk about for he dog to learn it, Squall's depend on which weapon he has, Irvines on which ammo he uses(IIRC), Quistis needs to have special items used on her, Selphies are just spells, though randomly unique spells that are only for her limit pop up.

I've only played a few: 7, 9, 10, 13, tactics and tried 14 for a few months. Tactics was the first one I ever played. Love it.

You're the bestest girl ever!

Play 6 now, it works great on emulator.

I was talking for 7. Sorry :wenger:

Cina and Earthquake gave the infor about 8. For limits is a bit more random and some times it gives you the shitty ones but if you're low on health and cast Aura in yourself you will usually use the best limits. They aren't near as important as in 7 though, junctioning is the most important thing which will make the game piss easy if you do it correctly.

I would but I've just been gifted AC4 so I'll be quite preoccupied for the next few weeks :)
You don't need an emulator for six, just buy it off the PSN network, its also a PS1 game, complete with 16bit graphics.

From what i've seen of it, it is absolutely awful. How have they made 3 games with Lightning as the main character? Unbelievable.

It does look pretty shit, and i can't believe they've stuck with her either given how many people have hated the last two (XIII-2 was better, but that's not saying much...).

I bought Realm Reborn yesterday, it's £9.99 on Steam and you get 30 days game time which is a decent deal. It's an okay game, really lovely cinematics and i enjoy the characters yet the gameplay is your standard MMO, easy and i'll probably become bored of it and not take out a subscription.

It gets worse, from something I saw on Kotaku the other day.

In fact, according to FFXIII director Motomu Toriyama, Lightning is so beloved that she might start getting Square Enix Cameo Treatment.

"We know that Lightning is an extremely popular character, even when compared to other Final Fantasy characters," Toriyama told Siliconera. "So there is a possibility that Lightning would appear in other future Final Fantasy titles, not as a protagonist, but as a guest character."

I.... what is this even?

I played the demo for XIII-2, and it contained zero amounts of Lightning, while still not a special, or even very good game, that part wasn't bad, and the lack of Lightning was glorious.

What's wrong with Lightning? XIII had about a hundred different problems but I didn't have her down as one.

It's so weird, i sometimes think that Toriyama just really, really gets hard for Lightning and wants to make her the most famous FF character because she's the one he created. fecked up shit man.

Here's one, she has no personality.

And in the new game, the developers got around this by literally saying her emotions had been removed by God. How fecking retarded.

It's the only explanation that's any ways viable, really.

From what I've read too, whatever amount of character development she did show, was stripped away in the later two games.

I dunno, in a game full of whiney cnuts I was glad of her emotionlessness.

Is it in Japan that she's particularly popular? There's no accounting for why the Japanese like what they they like.

Japanese people are weird. I looked on a poll made in Japan and apparently she is the most famous female character of Final Fantasy. A franchise that has Aerith, Celes, Terra, Dagger etc.

They still manage to make the game as much about her as possible despite her not being a character you play as.

Yeah, perhaps she did have something (however small it was) in the first one but she genuinley had nothing now. There is literally a part of a discussion where they say how God removed her emotions

Oh i get it, there a plenty of whiny feckers in JRPG's, it's just how she has no personality or emotion which makes it incredibly hard to follow her story through though. I mean, if she's just an emotionless blank slate of a person how are you supposed to give a shit about anything that she's doing?

Yeah, from what i heard the other day apparently they love her in Japan. There are even a few rumours about her being in the next FF and how that FF might be set in the same world/universe. Oh by the way, the ending of Lightning returns is so fecking bad too

I think what annoys me most about her is that if you pre-order or get a certain edition she will have Clouds sword + Uniform.

Lightning...will have Clouds sword.

:(

I thought Advent Children was alright, but it could have been great if they didn't completely feck Cloud inside out, nothing like his proper character.

Advent Children was what happens when you have voice actors and you can actually see the expression on peoples faces. They could have made Cloud better but to include all the parts of his character that was in the game would have seemed really out of place. Without giving it too much thought, Square Enix seem to be a bit hit and miss when it comes to developing characters that don't communicate through speech bubbles.

I've only played FFX but I find all the characters as moany whingebags anyway. The story is actually quite shit too  Still an enjoyable game to play though, I could do without any cutscenes at all. Already ploughed about 14 hours into it over the past few days

X and X-2 had some good characters, and a few annoying ones, XII they seemed to be a bit bland bar Balthier and feck knows what happened with XIII.

Love Final Fantasy! I replay through a few of them pretty much annually. My favourite is VII by an absolute light-year but honorable mentions to III, V, VI, VIII and IX.

I haven't played many of them past the PSX, well little bits here and there but I find them getting harder and harder to get interested in.

I've played VII and VI hundreds of times, and I still find something new on every play-through.
