On my first playthrough of any game I think it's best to just jump in. Trying to complete everything, checking an online guide every 15 minutes etc can be fun but I wouldn't like to experience a game for the first time that way.

I played a bit more FFVII today. I'm on floor 64 of the Shinra Headquarters. feck me, those stairs took fecking forever! And then the hide behind the statues thing! AND THEN the feckin' password for the mayor thing. feck me, soon as i got to that save point on floor 64 i let out a scream of triumph!

Did you get the password first go?

And the hiding bit is annoying as feck.

I did in the end, but i spent about an hour on that one section. I haven't used the materia on anyone yet though either as i'm not entirely sure what it does and whether what it does is good or not.

It was worth it. It can come in very, very handy.

Link that materia, and an elemental materia, say fire, to your weapon, and your attacks do fire damage.

Do it to your armour, and you'll take less damage to fire, as it levels up, it'll go to no damage and later absorb damage.

That was something I discovered way later in the game

Not enjoying VIII as much as VII thus far, but I haven't put much time into it yet. I don't get Junctioning either, mainly because I couldn't be assed to pay attention when that bint was going through the tutorials.

Ah right, sounds awesome then! Not sure who to give it to now though

Hardest part of the game is deciding who gets what!

Too right! I had a sense materia which i just chucked on Barrett because i had no idea what it did and a steal materia i lumped on Tifa because she had a bunch of slots open (giggidy!). Think i gave her that elemental one as well in the end, on her armour though rather then the weapon.

Sense will scan an opponent and tell you their HP, MP and weaknesses.

Steal often, some very handy stuff to be stolen early, that won't be available otherwise for quite a bit.

Ah lovely, Sense sounds useful then! I'll have to make stealing something i try to do in battle then if i can get some useful bits from it.

You can get some incredibly useful stuff, you're past it now, but in the train graveyard you could have got a staff for Aeris that makes her an actual useable physical fighter, for the short term anyway.

Ah damn. I found that train graveyard frustrating too, couldn't walk 2 steps without getting attacked! My luck eh?

Yep! I've actually found that FFVII is quite good to play when i'm doing essays. I can do a bit, take a break and play FF til i reach the next savepoint, save it and jump back into my essay. Kinda good way to do it i think!

Playing through FF13 now (yes, I know everyone hates it) and for a 2009 game, it wouldn't look out of place if it had been released this year. Beautiful graphics. Big fan of the paradigm system which is what keeps me going despite the linear gameplay. Can't wait to see a Final Fantasy game pushing the limits of the PS4

XIII isn't that bad, it'd actually be a good game if it wasn't completely linear up until the last few hours, and if it didn't have Snow, fecking Snow, what a dick. feck you Snow.

Agreed. Playing through it again made me hate him even more. Thinks he's the most badass guy on the planet. Douche.

...and Hope (Most ironic name ever, the whiny cnut) and Vanille (feck off) and Sazh (Stereotype), and Fang (Shit).

Hope got better closer to the end.
Vanille:
Sazh: Meh
Fang: Pretty sure (s)he has a dick.

Hmm considering playing through VII, never played it before and it's the one everyone raves about. I know I wont enjoy as much as FFX though, still waiting on that remake ffs.

I've never played it before either mate, got it on my Vita now and played about 3 and half hours. Very enjoyable so far but that's just the tip of the iceberg from what i've heard. Not played it for a while either because of essays and exams and the like too.

Downloaded 7, 8 and 6 just now. I have played a bit of 7 but never played the others. This should keep me occupied when there's no games to buy and I'm saving up for the PS4 and some games.

13 was terrible. One of the worst stories they've had and the battlesystem got extremely repetitive after only a short time.

Unfortunately the sequel didnt look much better.
