Just left Cosmo Canyon. This game really is fecking great, isn't it? And you're all about to tell me it only gets better, I assume?

I think it's perfect on the Vita as well. I. Clocking up plenty of hours without actually dedicating too much time to it, I can just drop in and out as I please. Any idea if the Vita will get Final Fantasy X? Now that would be amazing.


Yep. :) If you were playing it on the Playstation, you'd still be on disc 1 with a fair way to go until the next.

New one comes out first quarter next year, though it's not really a Final Fantasy game. From what I've heard it's kinda like Kingdom Hearts mixed with the command synergy battle system in its gameplay.

That is a shame.. I just finished 8 and never really got into 7 as I think it's one of the games you had to have played at the time to replay it now, I tried III on Android and found it lacking... Used to Play FFX (I think it's that one) with blitzball etc which I remember being good... If FF8 was my favourite, what other FF titles would you recommend?

Yep 10 was with the Blitzball, unless it was 10-2. Did it have Tidus in it?

I would recommend 9 as well as 6, the latter I think is on android and iOS. If you want something more modern in terms of graphics I would suggest 12. Some people don't like it but I think it is a very good game in its own right.

It was either X or X-2, I never played more than 20% or so of it, but I remember the beginning fairly well....

Regarding number 8, what I liked so much was the story, the ability to collect and train things you could recall to fight for you and finally the amount of things there were to do, I.E. You had GF's to collect, Side Quests, Cards, Weapon Upgrades, all separate to the main objective, you could go even further with things like Chocobos etc if you had a GameShark.

I do think 6 and 7 would be a bit early in GFX and probably put me off, unless the game was SO Playable that it goes against it, and I Still play Dungeon Keeper II and Warcraft III (1995 and 1998) so old GFX won't stop me...

When you say 12, is that the online one? and how would you rate that against X/X-II?
 
Stick with 7. I thought the graphics would put me off but they didn't. I think it starts slow but as soon as the story gets going (basically as soon as Sephiroth is introduced) you are gripped.

They're shit.

Bravely Default on the 3DS is looking good, though.

Try 9, immense game in every way, and like 8 has a tonne of extra odds and ends to do(the card game is shit compared to 8's, though).

Depends if you do all the additional bits, I get every bit of magic to full using draw points, every GF/Character to 100 just for ultimate completion, the UFO's, the Chocobo's, each card... So for me disc 4 with the raganork is the longest time you will spend on a desk, but I think there is more of the storyline on the first disk.

Yeah, sounds like you'd dig 9, graphics as good as the PSX got, great storyline, a lot of extra stuff and collecting to do. I'd probably play Chocobo Hot and Cold if it was it's own game. I loved that it had so many throwbacks to older FF games too.

I'm going for IX... Don't let me down! :lol: I was leaning more towards IX/X/X-II as opposed to VII purely because of age but you'd say IX is better than X and X-II then?

X was the last great main series game, but IMO, 9 is far better. 7 is my fave, and the one I'd call best, but I'd be hard pressed to argue against anyone who says 9 is the best. It's 100% the most polished of the PSX gen.

As much as 4 is a fantastic game, it's quite overrated these days. As an aside, 5 is underrated though, surprised how little you hear about it.

FF7 has the best gaming mechanics for an RPG I have ever played. With the materia you have so many combination that even the hardest of enemies would look impotent in attacks. If you don't get the right combination they will easily wipe the floor with you though. 6 has also good gaming mechanics but not as good as 7.

The story is great in both of them and hard to choose which has the better story. 7 has definitely the best protagonist (and one of the best in any game) and likely the best antagonist in any video game, though 6 has a great antagonist too. Would say that 6 has the best companions in FF games. 7 has two 'oh my God, what the feck' moments, with one being usually in the top of list. ut 6 has also some very touching moments. Soundtracks are amazing on both games. In Aerith, Cloud, Terra and Celes soundtracks you have some of the best music created for video games.

So, yeah both are great games and definitely worthy of playing. Better than 8 in every aspect I would say.

This is absolutely true. In many ways FF9 is to PSX like Chrono Trigger to SNES. Great game, not as much serious as the others, and the most polished game in it's genre

Oh yes, Cecil is excellent, one of the very best characters they've done, 4 is definitely one of the strongest in the series story wise.

Crisis Core is pretty good, a rare ARPG that kept me interested(though the 7 connection helped with that), was far better than other ARPG's I played on the PSP.

Dissidia is pretty good, bit too much jumping and chasing trying to hit the other guy though. It plays like it wants all the fights to look like the end of Advent Children. The Tactics games are excellent examples of SRPG's, top class. Dirge is a mediocre shooter, but I enjoyed it for what it was, and more Vincent is always good. The others weren't worth bothering with.

As for the oldies, 1 is very good, if you go in understanding it's going to be bare bones, and can get on with the very lo-fi. 3 is a fine game, if a tad grindy, 5 is very good IMO, as I said earlier, underrated. Good story, good combat, great job system.

2 is broken, more broken than 8, and not in a good way, awful, awful mechanics, which is a shame as the story seemed promising.

Nope. MMO, never going to play it, or 14.
That was MMORPG.

Not a fan personally... I loved Warcraft III which was very age of empire-ish in it's build, when world of warcraft was released, never followed it.

Saying that, on Mobile/tablet, gaming is very much in the way of MMORPG, I play one now called Spartan Wars: Empire of Honour, particularly good, sorry to draw off subject :lol:

What was broken about it in your opinion?
The Junction and Card system being able to make you unstoppable before the first dungeon, the fact you could get most, if not all of the ultimate weapons on Disc One(a few before the first dungeon....), and the enemy levelling system that meant grinding could make the game harder, rather than easier.

Thing is, in a way, these things made the game more fun, for replaying at the very least, and on the flip side, were easily avoidable if you didn't want to abuse the system.

In 2's case, it's all broken in a way that makes the game awkward, overly difficult and mostly frustrating.

Sounds obvious, but don't play X-2 without going through X first. :D

Really would go for 7, it's such a special game.

Ehrigez isn't either tbh, but they've both got connections, and those connections are the reason I tried them. Fair game for the list, IMO.
Was looking at other Kingdom Hearts games in Gamestop yesterday. Should have picked them up, tbh. Outside of that, damn shop was depressing. Only other semi-interesting RPG's were Etrian Odyssey, and Soul Hackers, but I certainly wasn't dropping 100 bucks for that pair.

Ah, fair play. Aye, sad times we're in. :( Dream Drop Distance is meant to be really good but there isn't much turn based stuff going around currently.

Most FF games have a ton of side quests in them so that shouldn't be an issue. If Graphics are really an issue then go for X. Even if graphics aren't an issue it's still one of the best in the series and probably my favourite. Most of the games are so good that looking dated doesn't matter too much anyway.
 
I keep coming back and rereading this thread and my NEED to re-play FF7 is reaching critical mass. Has anyone tried playing it on a MacBook using Win7 on a Bootcamp install? Can I use Steam that way?
