I feel bad reading how Woodzy's doing in FFVII considering he started it after me and is now way ahead of where i am. I haven't played it in weeks! Been sidetracked by FM and now essays :(

If i remember i'll get back on it around Christmas. Nothing like spending time with your family without actually having to engage with them at all eh?

Who the feck do I use to heal now?! :(

Only the first disc, ffs! I've put 17 hours into this!

Isn't that what Christmas is for? That and NBA.

Can't wait for FM Vita.

Yeah it's a long game. Probably not as long as 10 but it's massive in comparison to today's games.

Ive definitely got a Final Fantasy addiction now. I'm going to play VIII after this. Unlike VII I actually played and finished that one when I was a kid, but I remember next to nothing.

Cid, Vincent, Yuffie are all good choices, like I said, I often use Barrett.

I can't wait, hope the Celtics get another Christmas Day game. Bulls would be nice too.

I'm just happy Westbrook is back tonight! Didn't think he'd be back before Christmas.

Nooooooooooooooo :(

Only this reaction, I was waiting something more. Definitely the touchiest moment in the gaming history, a moment that teached gamers how to cry.

I hated her. Regretted the decision to recruit her.

To be fair, I was kinda waiting for it, as it is the worst kept secret in gaming.

I didn't mind her, far form my favourite though, usually used as a change of pace from my regulars.

It's almost on par with the big Vader reveal in Star Wars these days.
The final boss can be a bitch if you're not suitably prepared/levelled.

Also that two headed thing in the ice cave is a pain.
I found the final boss pretty simple, especially compared to some disc one and two bosses.

The two headed one was a cnut if you attempted your recently acquired Magic Breath...... Bah.

Depends, it's a big jump if you don't grind beforehand. The insanely long attack can wipe out an under-leveled party. Up until that point of the game I'd usually have no problem getting by without grinding.

Tbh, I waltzed it first time, without grinding, or many, if any of the best materia, but I'm fairly sure it never attempted the big attack. Perhaps I was ridiculously lucky? Every time since I've been suitable set up and battered it without trying.

It depends if you use KOTR in the previous fight and how many party members at level 99 you have. If you don't use KOTR on Jenova Synthesis and you don't have any member at level 99 it's an easy fight (IIRC I defeated him only with two attacks).

Such a shame. Same to me, I am very unlucky when it comes to twists. In almost best twists in video games, I had managed to spoil it to myself somehow

By 'not suitably prepared' I mean around level 50 and with no super moves/limits. Obviously with the above you should breeze him.

I'm around about level 35 at the start of Disc 2. Does that sound about right? It's been relatively easy thus far tbh, minus Demons Gate.

Going to have a session tonight but doubt ill clock up as many hours this week.

feck feck feck, I have a problem. On the Vita it won't let me insert Disc 2. I read online I need to hold my finger on the touch screen but it just doesn't work. My touch screen works fine however.

In case you haven't solved this yet, a recent firmware update changed how this all works.

Hold down the PS button until a menu pops up and next to where it says Final Fantasy VII hit Settings, and a menu with Switch Discs will pop up.

Yeh, got it sorted, cheers!

I was actually more concerned at not being able to continue the game than the possibility of my touch screen being broken.

I'm in some huge ice place at the moment. It's a lot of effort. Enemies seem to be dishing a fair bit of damage as well.

It genuinely makes me feel sick when stuff like that happens. Devastating feeling to lose a save file on an RPG.

Look out for Magic Breath from Stilvas, Woodzy - massive red spider/scorpion things. That's definitely one for your enemy skill repertoire and you won't get it for a while if you don't get it now. Same goes for Malboros with 'Bad Breath' when you're outside climbing up. You'll know what I mean when you get there.

 That's a good sign for the game.

The ice area is a long slog, but well worth it.

Yup, loosing a save off an RPG is awful, I hate the Pokemon only give you the one.

Do they still do that, yeah? Think I said it once in this thread but I managed to delete my mates save when we kids by using a gameshark. It was literally a perfect save file and it wiped the whole thing. Reduced him to floods of tears... what a bastard of a game for that to happen with.

Dunno if anyone's interested, but this guy is another one of those Youtube VGM legends:

Not as unique as the Acapella guy, but he's probably the only person I've come across so far that is properly remastering FF tunes to a really high standard (as well as doing covers). That Terra one could go straight into a PS1 remake.

Mother fecking two headed thing can feck off. 1000+ damage to the whole party when it dies? Pricks.

It's a joke for a game with such immense replay value.

I just nostalgia'd myself.

Yep. :D

Like how he literally just uses better instruments and does nothing else. The atmosphere and nostalgia is almost exactly the same as with the originals.

Excellent but still Terra's theme can't get any better than in the original game (though both this and the orchestrated version come close). Everytime I hear this theme I have a need to replay FF6 and I usually listen to it every day

Talking about music, give me your top 10:

X) Rydia theme (Final Fantasy IV)
9) Rinoa theme (Final Fantasy VIII)
8) Cloud theme (Final Fantasy VII)
7) Julia theme (Final Fantasy VIII)
6) Dagger theme (Final Fantasy IX)
5) Endless sorrow (Final Fantasy IX)
4) Celes theme (Final Fantasy VI)
3) Beatrix theme (Final Fantasy IX)
2) Terra theme (Final Fantasy VI)
1) Aeris theme (Final Fantasy VII)

I listen Terra and Beatrix theme more than Aeris because they are more happy and Aeris theme makes me a bit sad (same about Celes, everytime I listen it it reminds me the moment when she attempts suicide). All pretty amazing really and there are others who could have been in the list. And all made by the same person!

It'd take me at least 20 hours of solid work, I'd have to pour over them to make a list.

Out of VII, Aeris, Cloud/Main, Underneath the Rotting Pizza and the Turks songs would all likely be in the list. Unpopular as it may be Eyes On Me would be a dead cert.

It is a real beauty, Terra's theme. I remember the first time I heard that I was like "WTF, I get to hear this on loop?!".

I think as far as World Map themes go that 7's one is the best piece of music on a technical level (it's a lot less orthodox in terms how it develops than the others), but Terra's theme makes the whole game feel epic. It makes walking around the map amazing.

Nice list. I'm gonna have to have a real think about this one!

*Endless Sorrow is such a good shout, by the way. That's actually the definition for me of one of those songs you leave a game running for just to hear.
