Regarding the need for money in IX, did everyone make sure they perfected the the sword fight with Marcus during 'I want to be your canary'?

If 100/100 nobles and Queen Brahne were impressed, you get showered with 10,000 gil. Nice!

I'm so envious of you Revan. For me, it is the greatest game I've ever played. My tip for you is steal from every boss in the first two discs. They have some great items

I couldn't impress the ugly queen. I impressed only about 80 nobles, probably because of the speed cause I am pretty sure that I did all the moves right.

I can't remember now, don't think I got it perfect, but quite good. 10k would have been mighty handy right off the bat.

I am doing it. Cheers!

Oh yeah, another tip. When you come across Pumice pieces, save them!

There are very few in the entire game (4 I think but I usually only end up with 2) and you'll want them later on.

There are three I think (without synthesis), but most will only get two because of how you get the last one (steal from Ozma). I always thought getting that last pumice piece was a bit akin to how you could get a Gold Chocobo for beating Ruby Weapon in 7...

Ahhh, whenever I think of this game, I always cast my mind back fondly to Treno. That was when the game really started feeling magical, with you spending huge amounts of time there getting so much stuff.

Ahhhh, I loved Treno too, Steiner was such a boss at that stage when you get the Blood Sword.
Locations:

After defeating Ark
Chocograph
Steal from Ozma
Ozma drop

Edit: might be wrong according to KingEric
Cheers, I can see where I got two of them.

Most of that disc was spent there fighting Mandragora's with that blood sword. :D

Apparently there's a sort of glitch related to Eiko whereby levelling up Marcos will make her a lot stronger (probably intentional on Square's part). Always wondered why she was so much stronger by and large compared to Dagger when I got her, abilities aside. It got to the point with Marcos whereby he was a huge loss from all the money making done near that city!

Disc 3

The pinnacle of gaming

It really is something... Such an amazing game.

Just wondering, has anyone in here played Skies of Arcadia? I've recently gone through a phase of reading up about every possible RPG and kept reading reviews stating this was the best of them all. It's a Dreamcast game that was also ported also to Gamecube eventually, and I'm thinking of emulating the Dreamcast version after finishing Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix and going through Xenoblade. I remember reading that someone thought it did a better job of providing a throwback to old school JRPGs than even FF9, and was naturally extremely excited at a prospect like that.

Never tried Skies of Arcadia, Dreamcast and Gamecube though? Little wonder. Shame they never ported it to a console anyone actually played. I'd almost got a Gamecube once, just for Pokemon XD Gale Of Darkness, kinda thankful I didn't.

Still, reading up, Skies sounds like a class game, perhaps I'll have to rummage up a Dreamcast or Gamecube emulator(and get Pokemon too).

I hear it is shockingly easy to emulate on either unfortunately, requiring only a decent laptop processor and mere Intel HD Graphics. The Dreamcast is the one you should avoid the most apparently, as it has far superior sound quality supposedly. The Gamecube version on the other hand has extra content, but the sound is a real let down for most. Thankfully.

What a world we live in, tsk, tsk, tsk.

I know. *Quickly closes down KH2FM and PCSX2* fecking disgusting.

On another note, I'm looking through all sorts of threads at the moment that question which is better out of FF7 and SOA and have noticed a common trend...random people off the internet slamming into FF7 for no valid reason.

It's surreal reading it because I thought it was just universally acknowledged as being amazing. I get the impression it's because it's the game that, for some people, took 'their' genre away from them or something. Maybe it's also because it's so obviously brilliant that the 'cool' thing is to go against the grain and say it's actually shite or something. Dunno, weird reading it - I had no idea there was any level of controversy about that game whatsoever.

Meh, I need to play this game. It must be amazing if the comparison is being drawn.

Yeah, an absolute amount of people hate FF7 now, one of the greatest videogames of all time on any system. At least a percentage of them have to be hipsters who don't like it because it's popular.

It's getting me all defensive. How dare these people...

People who hate Final Fantasy VII are the most pathetic losers ever. There are only two 'reasons' to hate it:

- Because everybody love it and because I am different and smarter to other persons I must hate it
- I like another Final Fantasy game more (usually FF6 or FF9) but FF7 is more loved and praised than my favorite games. So, I must hate it (similar to Star Wars fans who have Star Trek and vice versa).

So, pretty much idiots who hate it without no reason. I have seen articles slamming it that much that it was a new level of retardation.

I was never really that into 7 or 8, tbh. I'm not actually a massive fan of JRPGs in general, but I absolutely love 9 to bits. Probably because I thought the best moments in 7 were the light hearted or softer ones and ff9 has a more cutesy/ light hearted tone through most of it.

Just uploaded my 7 save from my PSP to my Vita, *right after* getting Vincent and beating Lost Numbers.

Also, since I was hooked up to my PS3, copied over 9, and my save in Disc 3.

............Disc 3

Squall isn't as annoying in this Kingdom Hearts. They even take the piss out of how bad he was in the last one. I think I'll be able to go through 8 again now after the other 600 or so other games that need to be caught up on.

Forgot the Materia Keeper can be quite tough. Especially if you let Vincent Limit up.

Need to focus my team, rather than a bunch of jack of all trades. hard to focus on physical without the materia for it though. At the moment I could pop Cloud with a Long Range, Counter Attack, and HP Plus, oh, and Steal.

Is it me or in FF9 they went back to basics? Until now - just finished the ice cave - the game looks to me more similar to SNES FF games (FF4 and FF6) than the two other PS1 games (FF7 and FF8). The game seems to be less serious, the battles till now seems very not complicated and even animation looks to be less serous to other two PS1 games. I know that I am at the very beginning though, so probably it'll change. Oh, the random battles to level up are back again, I don't need to escape hundreds of battles like in FF8

Oh shit, Vincent limit break heals him if I remember correctly.

Sounds spot on, FF9 is a pure classic JRPG, and very much a throwback to earlier FF's. It's part of what makes the thing so charming. Plus, no matter how serious the current part of the story is, it all seems to feel light hearted, and high adventure.

Doubt that game at your peril.

Doubt that game at your peril.

Didn't do that. I loved both FF4 and FF6 and FF6 is one of the best games I have ever played and one of the few games I would have rated 10/10. It was more an observation than a critic.

Yup! For 1k give or take per hit. Ended up killing Vincent myself, and reviving him.

Probably going to switch him out, despite liking him so much, I really hate his Limits.
On the other hand, the sniper rifle/deathblow combo.

Yeah, Vincent is a great character (Square were idiots for making him optional cause he's one of the best in the game and you could easily miss him) but his limits are shit. At times can be useful but it's difficult to make a strategy when you have him in fighting party, especially in difficult battles. Aeris, Barret and Tifa were the best in battles I think.

I love that combo. The reason why Vincent stayed in my party for most of the game. I really need to play it again but give more time to Cid, Red and Caith Sith.

You are correct, it does take itself slightly less seriously at times and it's better for it. The art style, music, animations, characters, gameplay elements and plot all work together to make a masterpiece level work of art. It is simply brilliant. The character development is faaaaaar beyond what you see in most games.

The producer of the original Final Fantasies says it's his fave of the series.

Barrett and Red or Barrett and Vincent were almost always my team, so I'm trying to be a bit different this time around. A the moment it's Yuffie and Vincent/Red, but I'll want Cid, I think, and could stand to use Tifa for a while.

Can't bring myself to train up Aeris, as it's all futile.

About Aeris :( The best description I have ever heard about her
"Aeris wouldn't have died, and gamers wouldn't have learned how to cry."
. A single sentence that tell you everything you need. I have played a lot of games before FF7 (playing it only this year) and I knew that something similar will happen, but I was terribly shocked at that moment. The saddest moment in gaming history, undoubtedly.

Anyway in FF7 leveling materia is more important than leveling characters IMO so it's not a big loss strategically speaking. But an emotional one.

I hated Yuffie, one of the most annoying companion I have ever had. The bitch, if I knew I rather wouldn't had recruited her at all. Caid Sith was shit too, though it had that moment when you understand who is he.

In Yuffie's defence, her best limit break is as good as Omnislash.

Still, feck her. Re-shuffling all your materia after she gave it back was very annoying.

Omnislash  I don't think that I remember Yuffie's latest limit break.

Re-shufflingand stealing materia made things difficult, but it was part of the story so I liked that. What I hated was her character and when she made the useless ninja karate moves which were as pathetic as they could have been. One of the worst character in any Final Fantasy game I have ever played. Only Relm from FF6 was worse than her.

Yeah, never had a videogame take the wind out of my sails the way that did first time around.

I agree about the materia, but still, can't do it, heh. She has great Limits though, wouldn't want to get dependant on them either.

Yuffie's annoying, but she's got a great long range attack, very handy. Might swap to Cloud/Cid/Tifa as Rocket Town is up next.
